I’m a CNO member and my uncles are UKB. My dad could be as he’s 9/32 and I’m 9/64. I live here in Jay. I’ve grown up goin to JOM camps and being involved in what was offered around Jay. The teachers really helped make sure we knew our culture and I’m grateful for them. I’m 35 now and I feel alienated from the tribe because I look white. We'd been told by our grnadmother that her mothers mother was on the trial of tears, she had the name of the "bird woman", our grandmother left Oklahoma with her mom as a child and came up to Tacoma Washington, which is where our Mother was then born. We're mostly all still up here in the NW but one of my sisters and myself, have been interested in moving back down to Oklahoma to reconnect with our people. My grandmother is on the rolls, and our great grandmother is as well, but that is an area in our family not discussed, pur nother has always focused on our grandfather's side and his French culture. We were not even aware about our grandmothers blood until our step dad had mentioned it to specifically me when i was in grade school 3rd grade ironically interested in doing a school report on cherrokke tribe. Not knowing I had cherrokkee blood. When I did that report my step dad, was so amazing and so helpful and encouraging to learn more about our grandmother's history. Regardless of my Mother not being very thrilled about me identifying myself as Native American, she didnt like that. I believe it had been something supressed within my grandmother, with how our great grandmother probably was raised and the negatives shed experienced because she was cherrokkee from the reservation down there. Oir grandmother, Thelma Raymond, was fair skinned, so it hadnt ever been questioned until we started seeing old photos of our great grandmother, then it was obvious we had either black blood or native American, she had long long blue black hair,thick, and dark brown eyes, tall, and very dark skin, she was the full blood. We looked up our grandmother on the rolls, found her, found our great grandmother and her husband who shed married while in Oklahoma. But we didnt keep the info, and its been lost again, Mae Long, i belive her married name was, not sure what her maiden last name was though which makes it hard to locate on Rolls again. Our step dad had helped us find all yhe information when we had first looked it up. And now 30 years later, we have no idea where to start back up our research. Without him here anymore and no one in the family who can really help guide us, its extremely frustrating. We do have our grandmothers original birth certificate, which is cool, but also, our Mom who has it, refuses to let it go, ide told her that in order for us to register with the Cherokee nation, wed have to send the original bc, and she isnt having that at all, she barley will let us look at it. My mother she was mostly Irish though. So important to note that both my(fraternal) grandmother and my father had the cheekbones and the reddish brown skin and like I said they always had such dark skin in comparison to mine. Really doesn't matter cuz I was adopted.No idea I know that I come from Tennessee beyond that I have no idea genealogy for my DNA. Focus on what matters, on what will last forever. The culture, the language, the traditions. Keep them alive.

This Cherokee doesn’t know history. Cherokee did not come from the East, the Cherokee came from the North Midwest near Michigan, Illinois. They split from the rest of the Iroquois and moved south towards present day North Carolina 1,000 years ago
They came from the Georgia area when they were marched on the trail of tears. He was just referring to coming from the East as a reference point. He was not giving an extensive dialogue about their history.

I have a lot of Empathy for this guy and his people, if only Native Americans knew that Europeans got plagued by the same thing in history that they did and that’s Judeo-Christianity, if Judeo-Christianity didn’t invade Europe from the Middle East and forcibly change the culture and religion of the indigenous people as well as kill off many European Pagans that didn’t convert to their religion, the atrocities done to the Native Americans would have never happened, also a lot of the good qualities that came from Christianity came from European Paganism, sorry to offend any Christians but it’s just a fact and sometimes the truth hurts and the truth is many Europeans want their true sense of Sovereignty back just as much as Native Americans and because of this I hope that one day we can peacefully coexist.

The only reason they would do that is to reclaim their power as the United States of America. For the last time you can be Cherokee and just be adopted in the nation.You don't have to much but way of lineage. My grandmother if one were to estimated percentage would have been more like 70 percent... but I was adopted.other than sometimes in being her and my dad for having such dark skin that they never burned I was a little jealous about that because I'm fair-skinned by nature.beyond that I don't remember much of my childhood though.

@@yeshuahebrews7999 I live in Tennessee we have a lot of different types of native Americans I believe that my family is primarily Shawnee(scots-irish).. but some Cherokee. My mother she was mostly Irish though.
So important to note that both my(fraternal) grandmother and my father had the cheekbones and the reddish brown skin and like I said they always had such dark skin in comparison to mine. Really doesn't matter cuz I was adopted.No idea I know that I come from Tennessee beyond that I have no idea genealogy for my DNA. But it's good to know that someone is keeping a track of their heritage and their history I commend you.

I too have family backgrounds that tie into Cherokee culture, as well as various European nations.
No one is pure, those that are are well into the years, those that have high blood quantum will become fewer and as time passes that too will shrink. It’s just how reproduction works.
Focus on what matters, on what will last forever. The culture, the language, the traditions. Keep them alive.

This Cherokee doesn’t know history. Cherokee did not come from the East, the Cherokee came from the North Midwest near Michigan, Illinois. They split from the rest of the Iroquois and moved south towards present day North Carolina 1,000 years ago
