    This can be one of the most frustrating tasks. I have reviewed many videos on this, and I found one that says you need to check the thickness of the roller hinges. The two thinnest go on the back panel. There was a very fine difference in the thickness, but that solved my problem. Another tip is you can, in some cases, start by putting the roller in the track and then screwing the hinge into the door. You will need someone or something to help you hold the door up while doing it

    Hi Mike. Great video. I'm a tenant and don't want to spend on new doors.
    I can't get the screws to tighten because the hollow wood is worn. Any ideas, wood filler, perhaps?

    • @MikeKlimek
      @MikeKlimek  Před 5 měsíci

      Yes they are cheap doors...wood putty won't hold, but you might be able to create enough tension with toothpicks jammed in there, or even a wood golf tee. For the golf tee you will need to glue it and pre drill for the hole. I would try the wood toothpicks first and jam enough in the hole so the screw has something to bite into.

    • @MikeKlimek

      This door is actually hollow. If yours is a 2 panel door (whether hollow or solid), you probably will need to special order it from a local door shop.

    • @MikeKlimek

      It may be that there is debris in/on the track causing the wheels to come off of the track, or there me some "slop" in the wheel assembly, or the plastic wheels may be chipped or damaged. My guess is that either debris at the track or the plastic wheel is damaged?

    • @MikeKlimek

      If your door hangs from the head rail (like in the video) and your wheels are still attached, then you probably don't need to replace them. You should replace them if they are damaged. It can be a pain to get the wheels into the track correctly.

    • @MikeKlimek
      @MikeKlimek  Před rokem

      I don't know if your door rolls from the top track or rolls on the bottom track, but it sounds like whichever it is, it is not level. You can try adding some shims to the high side to get it level and then trim off the shim

    • @vanessab1061
      @vanessab1061 Před rokem +1

      Thank you so much for the quick response and my apologies, I should have clarified that my door rolls from a top track. I’m not sure I’ll be able to figure out how to add shims on my own but may be able to get some assistance :)

    • @MikeKlimek
      @MikeKlimek  Před rokem

      @@vanessab1061 Wherever the door settles will be the low spot, in other words, gravity will take it there. You could try to add a deck screw and pull the track up (if there is a gap). Probably a good starting point would be to remove the doors and place a level along the top track to see where it is out-of-level and then determine if you can place a shim between the top of the track and the bottom of the closet opening, or if you can pull up the low spot with a deck screw to get it level. Once it's level, the door won't have anywhere to go but to stay where it is placed. Good luck!

      @@MikeKlimek I managed to get the one problematic door in the track. I measured both closet doors, and the problem door is about 1/4" longer than the other. This longer door scrapes along the carpet. The rollers above are already set so that the door is as high above the ground as it can be. Is cutting the bottom of the door the only solution?

    • @ryan124007
      @ryan124007 Před 5 měsíci +1

      I cut the bottom of the door by 1/4" ish. I don't have a circular saw so it's not perfect, but it clears the carpet. I still have a very hard time getting the rollers into the front track. The rear track is no problem. I think it's the angle that I can't get due to the front panel covering the tracks.

    • @ryan124007
      @ryan124007 Před 5 měsíci +1

      I switched back to the 1/2" offset, and it went in. I was trying a 1/4" offset in the front but that made it impossible to get the wheels in. Right now I have 1/2" offsets for both the front and back doors. Is this ok? I could go buy 3/4" offset wheels for the rear door. The doors don't hit each other right now. The other closets in the house look like they all use 1/2" offset wheels only.

    • @MikeKlimek
      @MikeKlimek  Před 4 měsíci

      Sounds like you figured it out to the point where they work. You can add a divider to keep the doors from swinging into each other. If you need the 1/2" wheels try a local door supplier@@ryan124007
