Gee, it's almost like people would pay to watch real Star Wars films and not the Disney Trash Trilogy.
Bingo.
who the heck cares
I'd rather watch the Star Wars prequel films over the sequel movies any day of the year.
Agreed. Jar-Jar is Hamlet next to MaRey Sue Palpatine. At least Ahmed Best was, you know, ACTING!
Indeed
@@Nonamearisto I agree
Even the Star Wars Holiday Special is looking better than the sequels.
@@denvan3143 At least that gave us Boba Fett.
If I were to do a marathon, I'd watch the prequels and original trilogies only
Amen to that
I mean, that spin off 'what if' called Rogue One was kind of nice, but that's pretty much all of Star Wars. For sure on the big screen. (I know what the truth is, I just wish it was otherwise.)
Prequels, OT, and Rogue One. And if I had to include anything else, first two seasons of Mando. MAYBE Andor.
Same
@@Nonamearisto Me too
ROTJ only opened on 450-475 screens. TPM on 2700 screens. Going by $/screen, ROTJ was $3500 and TPM was $2900.
Disney Star Wars is like The 'Godfather III' or 'The Office' after Michael Scott leaves. It's not in the same class--a malformed afterthought.
same thing
Return of the Jedi was only released on around 500 theaters domestic with 0 advertisement. Most people only learn days before the release
and yet it was successful, i suppose
I've seen Phantom Menace together with my son and enjoyed the film better then any Disney production
Indeed
They should do more of these, not just with Star Wars.. allow Theaters more control just so they have content .. give theaters a very favorable cut and allow them to adjust the # of screens dynamically etc
Imagine a month of Shrek shows coming out to see what we support. How would puss in Boots last wish compete with Shrek 2 I wonder
I agree and the theatres need to survive, not shut down
Malaysia here. Some theatres are doing a rerun on the original Alien. Yeah, the original 1979 movie.
@@LaraA55 maybe some classic animated films
@@leongay3190 Indeed
I knew George Lucas would never betrayed his fans
I saw Phantom when I was 18, now 41 and took my 8 year old son Friday. Great memories.
The Phantom Menace was my first official ‘new’ Star Wars film in theaters. My dad took me to see the re-released OT in 1997 and I saw Ep 4 the day my brother was born, so the OT is going to always hold a special place in my heart. (Also, I didn’t look it up until today to realize they released in consecutive months, I remember it feeling like FOREVER between movies)
I look back on Phantom Menace as a passable movie, it’s not bad, good or great. Honestly the biggest things I remember were the communicator toys with the little sound clips from the characters and me keeping those for a very long time, the pod racing scene and video game, and Duel of the Fates.
I saw TPM twice this week, bringing my number of total all time theatrical views to 23. At our screenings they opened up with Star Wars television commercials from the 1980s, 1990's and 2000s - no Disney garbage in sight. We even got the 20th Century Fox fanfare which was a shock surprise!
Went with my dad Friday & my daughter Sunday. Love TPM, always have, always will!
Lovely comment
Lucasfilm is better off without Disney and better off as independent
Fox and it’s assets and IP are all better off without Disney
I completely agree
I would add Marvel to the list and the Jim Henson Company.
@@sakunaruful muppets
@@leongay3190 Yup. The muppets.
HOW COME I WASN'T AWARE OF THESE MOVIES PLAYING IN THEATRES!?
I don’t know… Phantom Menace just doesn’t have the race/gender swapping and finger-wagging I’ve gotten used to with Disney Star Wars.
"Now THIS is podracing!"
Lego Star Wars confirms that Jar Jar Binks is a sith lord!!!!!!
which figuratively means that is AN ICON, right?
Star wars hasn't given us reason to be happy, since season one of The Mandalorian.
But this......
This brings a smile to my face.
Can't wait for the 25th anniversary of Attack of The Clones, then Revenge of The Sith. I can be sure and tell you now that upon the re-release of ROTS in theatres, the box office is going to EXPLODE. ROTS is the best film next to ESB, so I can see money just rolling in. Yet again, for a film the Mouse didn't touch or taint.
The Phantom Menace may have an iffy story, but it is still better Star Wars than anything Disney has been able to muster thus far. The lightsaber battles alone elevate the Prequel Trilogy beyond Disney's imagination.
DIsney rolled out 5 movies in 5 years of decreasing quality.
Part of what made the original Trilogy so great was you had to wait for a few years for the next episode.
Could the Disney Trilogy been better if a little more time was taken in production?
Quality over Quantity
I doubt it due to the poor story. That said, I would prefer a space of 3 years between movies and no tv shows. For me, the tv shows have led to poor quality due to the focus on quantity. The magic has been lost
covid will still happen
@@LaraA55 star wars is one of those franchises that is not made for tv shows
@@leongay3190 I completely agree 👍
Actually, for the May the 4th weekend I did binge 10 movies. Episodes 1-9 and Rogue One between III and IV.
The sequel trilogy is just member berries packaged in a container from wish.
Own a copy. Still won’t rewatch it. ☹️
The "space guitar" takes me directly to Jedi Fallen Order
Kathleen Kennedy threw out first pitch of last Dodgers game and got booed
I will be watching this wonderful movie on the real Star Wars Day, May 25th. When I saw the movie in 1999, I really hated it, especially Jar Jar and I only watched it once. So....21 years later I re-watched it and I just loved it so much and I have watched it so many times. I really can't explain it. It is now so close to my heart . By the way, I didn't watch the animated Clone Wars a year later so watching the Clone Wars had nothing to do with me loving it. I now even adore Jar Jar. I was a big time OT purist fan, seeing Star Wars as a 9 year old in 1977, but for some reason, I now prefer the PT much more than the OT, despite the many flaws with it, the cringy acting and not so good dialogue. As I said I can't explain why I feel this way loving the PT more than the OT...perhaps I see movies differently now than I did when I was younger. I I even love the CG now. It grew on me like fine wine. The PT has the star wars charm, magic, soul and essence.
Nicely said!
@@IzzosPlace thank you 🤗
May 25th is Star Wars day.
9 movies? If I do a Star Wars marathon, I´d at best have 7 movies, and only because Rogue One is not trash.
While I have mixed feelings on some of the live action Disney Star Wars content lately, I have really enjoyed the animated stuff like Bad Batch and Tales of the Jedi. I almost wonder if those projects have less corporate oversight.
There are only six films, not nine.
TPM is my third favourite of the Star Wars films. Yes, I put it above TESB, sue me!
wrong there are 14 films that includes rouge one solo the clone wars movie and 2 ewoks films
@@leongay3190 Fine, main sequence films.
I saw PM last night. Jar jar is WAY less irritating than I remember (of course I subscribe to the Darth jar jar conspiracy so that helps). If I watch a marathon it’ll be at my own house where my bourbon is close and cheap. I will add the holiday special, rouge one, and solo, but I will not be watching the spinoff trilogy ever again. Unless somehow George returns and does his own cut of them lol.
I know what you mean about Jar Jar. I now like him.
I take Mr. Plinkett’s view of the prequels as authoritative, but they’re still better than the Disney rubbish.
Remember the Fallen 😂
I nomaly watch the movies on their original release dates excluding the Star Wars Trilogy Special Editions or Disney's Editions. I have the original Star Wars Trilogy on vhs and from other media sources. Last year, I went with mother to see Return of The Jedi, I really assumed it was the 1983 release movie. I almost Sith my paints when that the end when Vador said, "NOOOO!!!" AGAIN!!! That is just so much poo doo?!
I think they're very much in touch with their audience, they simply don't care about what they want.
They know what they're making appeals to pretty much nobody, they know what they're making costs ungodly amounts of money, they know they're loosing their return on investment each time they make it.
They simply do not care. Because it isn't about the money, it's about the message.
"Never interuppt your enemy while they're making a mistake" - Napoleon
why would I watch the last three again?
True.
9 movies i think you got it flipped its 6.
“Star Wars” fatigue was a lie…
star wars haters don't give a crap about the franchise
I went to the Star Wars marathon at the Disney Springs AMC last Friday. It started at 8pm Friday night. I left after Return of the Jedi around 11:30 am Saturday morning. For all 9 movies, the marathon would have gone about 24 hours. I wasn't the only leaving after Return of the Jedi. Though I did see people leave after the prequels were done. Saw some leave after the OG played. Some just tapped out because they were too tired. Still fun, and was an overly enthusiastic crowd. I would say the theater was about half full. I think it was the second biggest theater there. Though, the constant cheering after every major character first appearance or catch phrase was getting annoying at times.
Well there are only 6 Star Wars films
Wish they would’ve started earlier in the day or Saturday, almost did the Disney Springs one.
Yes, I would think that a Star Wars movie not quite as good as what was before would do better than a Star Wars movie which is actually about a mentally ill woman's hatred of men and the fans.
Disney hasn't released many, if any, new films in 2024. You're comparing three movies that were originally streaming releases from the pandemic that were given theatrical releases this year, and movies that were released last year and happen to still have a theatrical presence into 2024. Which is how the The Marvels made that list despite coming out in 2023. This is extremely disingenuousness just to beat the "Disney is failing" drum for views.
We were going to report on The Phantom Menace’s box office haul regardless and it’s a good touchpoint.
@@ThatParkPlace But that's...not what I said was at issue. You're explicitly saying none of the films they released this year did well compared to Episode 1. Expect they haven't released any in 2024 yet, except for The Final Omen, if that list is accurate.
I'd rather watch real Star Wars.
Disney & Dave Filoni only make garbage!
#FireDaveFiloni and his wife too!
"Doesn't resonate with audiences"... non pc/polite way of saying the movies are shit. And we hate them.
You guys need a hobby. Menace did ok against no competition and you praise it like it is something. What was its competition
1. The fall guy, which nearly doubled menace
Challengers, whatever that is
Tarot
Godzilla after 6 weeks
Panda after 9 weeks
I would have been stunned if it didnt win. Look guys i onow you have a hate boner for disney. But seriously. Get some new material
Disney will claim that we all went to see TPM at the cinema on Saturday for The Acolyte trailer… 😜🫠🫠🫠
Then we all say collectively...what acolyte trailer? 🤔😏
i think thats the A c o *l u n a t i c* trailer 😂
