- I promised you guys I would keep you updated on fixing up my cabin, so here it is in all of it's chaoticness. đ I'm going to be completely honest and say I don't know what happened with this video... I think I might have started losing my mind near the end. But all in all, i'm super happy with how the mudroom/pantry turned out, and feel like it really makes the cabin THAT much cozier.

All you need now is a bi-fold door for your bathroom, a composting toilet for nights and when it's really cold, and a small rocket stove type heater for your outhouse. :D
In her latest video she talked about a patch of trees that had to go because a septic tank will be dug down there. So things are getting comfy real fast.

Hannah, I really admire how you can renovate a house by yourself. A suggestion on the water heater. Put hinges and handles on those plywoods instead of screwing it shut so you can have easy access when needed. They could look like cabinets. You are amazing! đđđ

The short version is: follow your passion(s), and reject conditioning. I know, the former is cliche and the latter... well, difficult. The long version acknowledges the vast land of Shithappens, and plays the hand that's dealt.
I wish I'd learned more, earlier, and spent more time with my (now deceased) parents.
I'm currently retired and living on the road, enjoying my lifelong hobby, photography. I sold many of my tools, and I keep my relationship with tech, simple.

Hello Hannah, I have a tip for you as i just saw you put potatoes on that 3 tier hanging wire thing. If you leave them there they will spoil fast. Potatoes will stay fresher longer if kept in a dark cool area..Loving your new additions

My grandfather, who I learned all my woodworking skills from, had a kraft paper roll list thingy like you have. He had it in his workshop for measurements & sketches, but he used an old jigsaw blade across the top & ran the paper under it & used it to tear the paper off & to hold it flat. I can remember thinking it was genius & I would have one when I grew up. I had totally forgot about it, until I saw yours! I am putting it up asap! Thank you for the reminderđ

I think you need to put one of those heat register covers on the bottom of your water heater cabinet. I think those things need to breathe to work right. Yes, agreed re the water heater. I was actually expecting the front to be hinged so it can be opened like a cupboard door if necessary to adjust or repair the water heater, and with a little register grate inserted near the bottom. I've lived in two homes/apartments with enclosed water heaters and that's how they both were. Conveniently, in one the cupboard was much deeper than the water heater so it also functioned as a broom/vacuum closet AND we put the kitty's litterbox in there. My ex removed the grate and I hung a little curtain stapled to the inside of the door so the cats could go in and out. BEST LITTERBOX SITUATION EVER. Anyway, lol.

Hannah girl, Not only are you great at DIY but love your quirky humor. You could totally do a DIY with Hannah tv/cable show...get someplace like Home Depot or Ace Hardware to be sponsors...get them and varnish company to sponser you here. I'm not sure there are any other women doing the kind of renovations and makeovers you do. Lots of sewing, crafts, etc. but not full on building and home renovations. Somebody give this woman a contract! Or maybe consider teaching young women (heck, all women) how to use power tools and renovations. I'm 65 and am only now learning these things. @14:20....any "appliance faces" - tanks, elec panels, plumbing, shut-offs, etc.- that need to be (easily) accessed, consider not using even screws....but VELCRO tabs, industrial type. I create (4) short strips around my "face"; has worked great.
Perhaps hinges on plywood covers so all youâd need to do is open to work on it. Just a thought....

My situation is different, but I am here trying to fix up our hobby farm acreage as my husband works in the oil field and we have 2 young boys. Our farm was run down when we bought it, out buildings with leaking roofs, taken over by pack rats, the mobile home it came with needs so many updates, the addition that was put on us hilarious and settled sloped đ€Š so cracks in the walls, flys and spiders loving the gaps between the ceiling. It would have been good to simply put a hinge on the water heater wood, like a door so that u can access it anytime. A hinge on one side and a latch on the other side. Then u can swing it open.
Would also be great to make sure all the necessary clearance around everything for safety!

I loved the walk. I live in Yukon Canada. I'm a snow person. it was just like home
@DAVE ADAM I have never enjoyed summer. Like I said I'm snow person. I'd take winter and fall over spring and summer any day. Born and raised in the Yukon I think is why I love the colder months. Anything warmer then plus 20 is to warm for me lol. Snow is just so beautiful to me.
I keep envisioning white or sheer flowy curtains as a âdoorâ between the pantry and kitchen đ

Hey Hannah, instead of unscrewing the boards every season, would putting hinges on the front work with a simple latch into the wall? Also, I see on a lot of conversions people do like a skinny rolling pantry to cover tight spaces that have no use. Good for holding spices and other things. Maybe that space by the door could be that?

Thats what I was thinking about the boards. Old rustic hinges would be perfect. Maybe she will do that in the spring.
You literally read my mind lol. I thought a hinge door on the water heater would give better access, and that long, narrow space in the doorway I thought would be perfect space for tiny shelves to keep spices. I didn't think of the "rolling" spice rack though đđ
