Hey mate been watching your channel for awhile now I'm in the process of doing a hq holden and been watching heap of other vids where they say not to use filler on panel edges just curious as to your thoughts
Good question! Filler on the edges does run the risk of being chipped off if you open your door and hit something. In reality, if you hit your door on something regardless your going to chip paint or damage the car in some way. To metal finish a whole car and use 0 filler is extremely rare to see and expensive. Since it’s your car and if your happy to spend many hours on one panel . Try pull the steel almost level and apply minimal filler to get it straight and aligned. HQs and bodies similar in perfect condition are super rare to find in todays age and quite a lot of people don’t realise the cost to have them metal finished or 40 hours spent on one panel . As a example most panel shops charge between $100-150 per hour . 40 hours at $100 per hour is $4000 On one panel! That’s without the cost of paint prep and actually painting it , flow coating and or polishing . Can get pricey real quick!
@@BogDustForBreakfast can you use like a fibre glass filler instead is that stuff stronger only asking as I assume I will come across this problem on my build
fiber glass filler is mainly used for deep low spots generally where welds are. ill be using it on the dog leg on the drivers side real quarter. the issue i see happening if you used it on edges is , if it was to chip off being a fiber filler it will more than likely chip a bigger section off compared with standard filler @@user-js9zc7pr6z
