    I am starting medical school this September at Trinity School of Medicine. My favourite videos of yours all have to do with living and studying medicine in the Caribbean. I use your content to prepare myself for all that is to come, and get some insight about what to expect. I also love that you are Canadian because I am too and that gives me hope that things will work out. Thanks for being here on YT your content has definitely been of help to me ♡

      Aw thanks Arwen!! And congrats on your acceptance to Trinity! I was just rotating with a Trinity student who just matched to surgery in Texas and will be starting residency in a few weeks! There's lots of hope for ya :) is there anything else you would like me to make a video about or questions you have in preparation for the upcoming semester?

      Thank you!! :) If you could talk about your experience on the island, particularly how you stayed in touch with loved ones, how often you were able to come home to see family and how you dealt/deal with all the traveling and being far away from your home that would be super helpful! Thanks again!

    Hey there! So I'm a US-Caribbean MS3 in the last week of my thrid clinical which is OB/GYN. I have unexpectedly absolutely fallen in love with this field. I was initially planning on going into FM because of the ability to be a primary provider, continuity of care and a variety of things an FM physician is able to do but through my currant rotation I've learned that OB/GYN can also provide quite a bit of primary care to women of pretty much all ages AND I get to do a TONS of procedures and surgeries. I was digging down a rabbit hole of ways to match when I came across your channel, so here we are

    You're gorgeous by the way and thank you for doing this. I wish channels like yours were around before I started. I went to Mexico. Very interesting and overall surprisingly good experience. MS1 and 2 is somewhat no frills and poorly managed but you get by this easily with all of the outside study resources available and I ended up doing really well on boards and am in the match! Its very safe despite what you may have heard and everything is cheap as heck with all of the amenities you would expect of a large US or Canadian city. All of my rotations were done in Vegas (great experience with amazing physicians) and we had multiple locations to choose from including Chicago.I can share more details if you want to know more and am happy to help fellow IMG's

      @@Medumentary I had to think about this for a sec but how can I say no to you haha! It’s UAG in Guadalajara -which is a great city but it does help to know some Spanish if you want to get the most out of it. I can say more off record about the school itself but as I’m sure you also found out (I did many of my rotations with Canadian students who went to the Caribbean) going to these schools is much of what you make of it and it’s important to have realistic expectations -as you are also conveying on your channel. But it is a unique opportunity for some and can turn out quite well

    Do you have a video covering medical needs for the students? What if we need medications in the island, how difficult is it to get it? Are you able to purchase something online and have it shipped? Are you able to ship your own furniture into your housing? How far were you from the airport? Thanks for all the info!

    • @Medumentary
      @Medumentary  Před 5 lety

      Hey Sally, I don't have a video about that unfortunately. I would recommend getting a long prescription before leaving for the island, you can tell your doctor that you'll be out of the country for a while. I don't think anyone had any problems getting medications for acute issues on the island but I'm not sure about what's available for different medical conditions. The school in St. Vincent was a 10 minute walk from the airport - very small island!

Also, any crazy creatures to be aware about for this island? I do not do spiders 😐 😫.

      Hi there, thanks so much for watching! Unfortunately I can't help much more than what I've talked about in my videos. My experience & knowledge is limited to 1 school, the one I attend. I don't know enough about the other schools to make any educated recommendations. Really, you just have to call the administrations of all the schools you are considering and get as much info from them as possible. Also search the student Facebook groups for each campus to try and connect with students who are currently enrolled at these schools and get their first hand experiences.

      special masters program. usually those have a linkage to their med schools if you do well. mine is a 3.4 GPA and you'll have an automatic interview to the bradenton fl branch, which is nice. my first choice is to apply to the erie PA branch though because they have a primary care program that accelerates med school to 3 years if you sign a contract to do primary care for 5 years after residency. it follows the "self directed study" pathway (aka pretty much online and you teach yourself) but that's currently the goal. and thanks! i follow a lot of medtubers but most of them have graduated and are in residency so i'm constantly searching for new ones lol.your channel is different since it is international and i like to see how other people are doing since there is the misconceptions that people who go to the Caribbean are lower-grade med students. if you don't follow them already you should follow Dr Buck Parker who went to Ross (i think) and is now a general surgery resident and ali abdaal who is at cambridge. i really like ali's revision (review) videos the most.

    I just finished my basic years on the Middle East, unfortunately here the clinical experience (year 4,5) is not that good and kind of expensive 25k$/year, so i was thinking about transferring to the caribbean, so may you elaborate about the clinical experience and the fees, and the post graduation opportunities (for non americans), thanks.
    And great videos by the way, i liked your story about the 1st delivery that u attend.

      Congrats on completing your basic sciences! Unfortunately clinicals here are just as expensive if not more. It really depends on which school you attend, but clinicals average around 8-15k per semester. Any of the school websites should have their tuition fees listed, and you can also call admissions to ask directly.

    Hi, I’m a physio major graduating in May. I live in San Francisco and planning to go to either SGU, ROSS or AUC starting September 2019. My question for you if you don’t mind is how do students pay for rent food and housing since they’re too busy to work?? Does the Financial aid cover that? Thank you in advance and thank you for your informative videos!😌

    • @Medumentary
      @Medumentary  Před 5 lety

      Hey! It depends on the school. Some Caribbean schools qualify for federal student loans, and some students pay that way. Other students pay out of pocket from savings, or their family helps with tuition. Other students can take out a line of credit which covers them for 4 years of tuition. So there are a variety of options, your best bet is to contact the school admissions and ask them what type of loans they qualify for and what their recommendations are.
