Milo of Kroton

Milo, son of Diotimo, was a very famous wrestler who lived in Kroton in the VI Century BC. His extraordinary strength, his superhuman proportions and his many victories have rendered his memory immortal, as if he were a God. In twenty-eight years he won thirty-three games: seven Olympics, seven Pythian Games, nine Nemean Games and ten Isthmian Games. In 510 BC, Milo led the Krotonians in a battle against the neighbouring community of Sybaris. The memory of the champion's legendary deeds has remained vivid over time. Milo has become the subject of many artists' works in every epoch. Today his name is used to represent strength, wellbeing, and courage.
