Personally, I love iRacing. A friend I have who HATES monthly subscriptions even admitted to me that because of iRacing, he can't stand any other racing sim, because they don't even come close to the racing in iRacing. :D
Spend a fortune getting to what you want to race. Every car & every track costs. for a person on a fixed income, hope to hit the lottery to continue!

I went the oval route. What I did was just stayed in the back and took my time. Anytime I tried to push it, I would end up in a wreck. It the end, I have confidence and I'm winning races. From rookie to A class took me just over a month. I didn't race everyday though.

Imagine putting in hours on end of hard work and effort just to freely attend an event that would be shrouded in tragedy and controversy. I'm sorry to whoever won that prize. I'm glad I wasn't able to see that awful day in-person.

Cars are ~ $12 and tracks ~ $15 (except for Daytona 2007). You get a good selection of cars and tracks with your membership though. I started with Lime Rock Park (included) and the Mazda MX-5 car (included). From there, you can buy what you need (either to race in a series that has non-included tracks/cars, or to try out tracks and cars that you're interested in.
Prize to go to the final race in 2011 at Las Vagas.
I feel sorry for anyone who was there to witness that horrible crash.

+TheEngiGuy 30 hours of iracing :D If you know how to play the license system, you can get to Sprint Cup level cars very quickly and relatively inexpensively. In short, I went from Rookie Street Stocks -> NASCAR Trucks -> Sprint Cup. I also own all of the NASCAR content.
Total Spent = 2 cars (2*$11.95) + 22 tracks (1 free + 5*$11.95 + 17*$14.95) = $337.80. That seems like a lot of money, which it is; however, that is not the true dollar amount.
I did not purchase $300+ of content at once. Neither should you. Usually, I bought my tracks in batches usually no more that ~$70 a purchase spread out over months. Sure, you may not be able to participate in a full season, but it is better than crying about spending $300 and not getting the most out of it. Actually it is good that ppl say expensive ect...cause this keep also the kids out of the game after the roockie class yuhuuuu ...oooh and dont forget the discount that you get with batch orders
Some people think its about the race to Class A. Most of us know its just about the Race.
you still paid 337,80$ + Monthly subscription over months... So there's your answer. iRacing is an amazing game, but it's a money grab

I started iRacing a week ago. And you start in Street stock (oval) and Mazda cup (Road) as a rookie, not legends and the Potiac Solstice. I did the 3 month deal, so maybe that changed how mine was started. But, just saying for new people

@RX552VBK I bouth it 2 months ago, 12 usd for a month, now this is my second and looking forward to get the yearly one, I cant suggest u another sim racer but Iracing, Its an amazing experience with very but very clean drivers, if u want a higher License (to drive stronger cars) you have to play clean and hard, so everyone takes care about points and to actually use the brakes instead of pushing u out of the track to get further, if u do doesnt matter if u r 1st u'll lose points.

You'd have to do rookie races in the MX5, solstice or SRF until you get to License D 4.00 then you can buy the V8 supercar. Then do 4 time trials so you get fast-tracked to license C and then you can do V8 supercar races.

I agree. It isn't as polished as, say, Forza4 or a GT5 but these have to appeal to all ages from 3up so they have to be more accessible.
iRacing does away with the bells and whistles and gives a more adult experience.
I'd just like to see more cars & tracks and, especially, free session hosting - it should be included with the yearly subscription, in my opinion, instead of being another chargeable feature.
Oh, and more members would be cool too :)
@Otakahunt True, but, you can get specialist steering wheels fully compatible with the xbox, PS3 And PC. the only steering wheels that provide this are fanatec. ypou can get racing seats compatible with anything :L
Man, so sad. The winner of the first iracing indy car series won 2 tickets to the 2011 las vegas indy car race. and that was dan weldons last race... unbelievable reading this 11 years later. Take it easy boys, and say a prayer everytime you take the track.
I kinda want to run the road courses in the Nationwide Series and run a full schedule in the IZOD Indy Cars Road Course Series. I think that would be awesome.
@xSonisphere Wait, ignore the inRacingNews Challenge. You can go straight from the MX5 to the V8 supercar I think.
@xSonisphere Sign up and race the MX5 until you are a rookie 3.0 then race in the inRacingNews Challenge until you are a rookie 4.0. You will then be upgraded to a D Class if you've met the number of race/timetrials required. Then buy the V8 supercar and the tracks to go along with it.

when you get your pro license can you race in other races like the indy 500?
Point is, all game engines use polygons to express a shape or image, the effectiveness of a game engine's conveyance is up to it's programmer and designers.
With iRacing can you just jump into a room and race? Or does it have to be planned. I was thinking of getting into iRacing but I don't really have the freedom of designating a certain time frame. Thanks :)

actually u can see the prices on the subscription page. it tells u about the prices and discounts
i will try it soon but im curious how to define the real sim, example i like RF and Gran Turismo and few other online PC sims as well as NFS Shift 2, like NFS Shift not even close to a sim but its challenging and fun, even more online had some good full grid races, also i mean this in a way that most people never drove a real race car but everyone claims this or that is real plus developers claim same with every new edition, so is this worth my hard cash :)

It's thirty a month when you buy the tracks and cars they create every three months. I bet it's well over 1000 dollars for full content now.

You, being an FSX player, are familiar with the sqaure texturing on the lighting of aircraft and smoke effects, correct?
I have a pretty bad computer but can I change the settings on this game so that I can play? My computer isnt too bad but I dont know if it will be able to play this game on full settings.
@MaCcAM40a3 Most ranked races occur once every hour, but public practice sessions and time trial are always open. Hope this helps.

no its ok i know it was not bad intention behind your comment. To say the true, i thought the same thing when i saw the circuit and the date.
I don't know about on the oval side of things but on the road side I feel it is unfair to not have cash prizes available around the GT classes (corvette C6r/Ford GT). In the real world most people head down the GT route considering the much lower costs than in single seater racing so why is it seen as stepping stone to the Riley DP since they are both very different cars?

@b2k774 i would say most people would still prefer to play it on PC as PC has the best steering wheels available. And those driving simulator seat thingys. When consoles barely have any, especially Xbox doesnt have any good steering wheels...i tried to look for such sometime ago but couldnt find anything other than the weird wii-like U shaped thing.
For the first week i drove iracing with xbox controller and its very hard and sucks. :P

hey some help please.....i want to start iracing... but will it work on my samsung laptop.. its got good memory and lots of ram....but the graphics card is a HD graphics card family ... could i update the drive for free or would the card be ok ?? im not " mr tech " so any help would be helpfull and i will be very thankfull.. and if i do get it to work any tips on how to run it smoothly and decent frames would help to .. thanks people !

Wish I could play Iracing but i well just stay real racing because we can't afford the things that is did to play I am real fan of racing and my dream is to become a nascar monster energy cup driver I am not even close in having any racing experience so iracing thank you because of this SIM people like me as chance to make there dream come true but for I well stick with real racing 3 just wish that dream could come true😧

Nowadays, you would want to compete in the MX5, before progressing to a D Class Road Racing series(Skippies are popular, but Cadillac is closer to GT racing) and then into C class with Porsche Cup, and B Class with GT3 Sprint.

Wheel really does make a huge difference. I just got a second hand logitech momo for $50 and it is so much better. Feel free to buy more expensive wheels but yeah, definitely need a wheel
