Brought back memories of those Big XR’s not starting especially after a crash...still enjoy them rarely riding with like bikes. My old age has me preferring the magic button...lol

Agree even though my xrr was always easy to kickstart the button is 100 percent easier.

Having owned 3 Xr650r's, I am now on a well modded XL. I would not go back. I find 38HP to be plenty of power, I like the electric start. Unless you are racing, XL all day.

@@PercivalTheSeeker1982 For sure, the power is more than enough with mods. The bike has a heavier feel but it brings more stability and confidence for street riding.

Curious...I’m sure you guys have swapped bikes. If you could do it again, which would you buy? I’ve have/had them all except the 650L

If the 650R came street legal and with E-start there would be no question, those 2 things would have likely made it the greatest dual sport ever. The 650R is lighter and more powerful, but 650L's are a dime a dozen and still comparable enough to be competitive with the 650R.
If I had to choose between the 2 I'd go with the R, I just got a great deal on the L. Both are fantastic bikes!

As a previous owner of the R and two Ls., I'd go with the L. Adam is on target with the E-start. After dumping it, I've had all my riding hear stripped off and a quart of water drank by the time I'd get it started at times! The R really is a beast, but it's been off the market for a long time! Both are heavy, but the L is definitely heavier! The L has a remarkable aftermarket and cult-like support, and is soooo simple to work on! I'd do the L!

It’s a nice bike at a good value...that being said so far I’ve just been using it on-road. Was not comfortable with its weight and stock tires off-road. I’m in process of lighting it up and going to Dunlop 606 rear and Pirelli MT21 front tires...Will see...that and the suspension is too soft for me (210lbs)...lots of setup to do.
