As a Blues fan, I can tell you the trade had everything to do Shanahan with sleeping with Janney's wife. In fact, Tony Twist confronted him outside of a bar about the situation. (Twist apparently did punch him a few times). Haven't seen anyone cover this story though so good job bringing this up.

100 percent right, and the other , one that hurt blues was Doug Gilmore, getting caught sleeping with babysitter, team was forced to trade him , just sad these two I consider terrible teammates,and apparently big discontent in clubhouse about this , rumor is it was an employee for blues teenage daughter. .

I remember watching PK and Gally doing things for HabsTv and just playing on the ice and they seemed like they were actually friends, there was always a competitive atmosphere with them even playing games but it seemed playful. Really makes you think about what goes on in locker rooms

I remember the Shanny and Janney issues. Growing up in the Suburbs of Philly, the Lindros/Brind'Amour issue had fans picking sides. I was a Brind'Amour guy myself
I would be curious to know the rationale of those who picked the side of Lindros, as he was the one sleeping with a teammate's wife. Was Rod just supposed to be cool with that?

@@mckessa17 I agree but we looked at him as the next savior of the team. As a Flyers fan who saw a very mediocre but growing team missing the playoffs for a few years, I was hopeful that maybe that was a one-off. Little did anyone know that drama would be a mainstay of Lindros’ stay in Philly.
Just remember these guys are people doing a career and naturally there’s definitely going to be people you just won’t get along with.

Back in the 90s I was friends with an Avs reporter. Kind of odd being a Wings fan, but it made for an interesting and fun friendship. Anyway, he had all kinds of stories that were open secrets around the league, but there was no way anyone would report them or they'd never get another interview again.
As for the Shanahan/Janney thing- when Shanny got traded to Detroit, one of the first things Yzerman did was tell Shanahan to cut the shit. That they knew what he'd done, and if anything like that happened in Detroit there were going to be big problems.

Ever hear about Shanny and Karen Newman? For those who aren't Wings fans, she used to sing the National Anthem in Detroit, and I had heard she was having affair with Shanny.
Brind’Amour should be in the Hall of Fame. Change my mind. I also think he should’ve been the Conn Smythe winner in ‘06. Obviously Cam Ward played phenomenally and was probably the best player in the Finals, but without Brind’Amour the Hurricanes probably lose in Round 1 to the Canadiens. Rod willed that team to the wins that they needed. One of the fiercest competitors I’ve seen in any sport.

Rick tocchet knocked out Lindros with one punch. He wound up missing like 20 games or so because of a concussion from that. A lot of people think Lindros's concussion issues started with the Scott Stevens hit. Nope! They started with tocchets right fist. My old boss is from Philly and used to be a Zamboni driver for the Flyers at their practice facility. He told me he saw the whole thing. The Flyers also made him sign a waiver saying he couldn't talk about it publicly for 10 years.
That RUMOR has been proven false several times over. Lindros was out with a concussion BEFORE Tocchet came back to the Flyers. There was no fight. Also Brindy has stated there is no beef with Lindros. Brindy has denied all allegations between Lindros and his ex wife.

You could also do a video about toxic dressing rooms resulting in trades. One that comes to mind is the Flyers trading Jeff Carter and Mike Richards. Trading your top goal scorer and captain who are also best friends.

They were apparently moved because they partied too much. Richards was eventually caught crossing the Canada/US border with Oxycontin and the Kings used that as an excuse to terminate his contract. The NHLPA went to bat for Richards and the Kings had to pay him and its unknown how much due to a nondisclosure agreement that had to be signed.

Tyler Seguin and Nathan Horton. It was strongly rumored that Seguin was sleeping with Horton's wife Tammy (a former Playboy Model). Horton told the Bruins he wouldn't be resigning there (despite having won a cup there) and Seguin was inexplicably traded to Dallas. The next day Horton signed with Columbus.
I didn't think it was a rumor. It was well known around Boston it happened. Either way, so screwed up

rumor is Tocchett and Lindros got in to a Fight if you can call it that and Recchi got hurt breaking it up . The only reason i kind of believe that is one of Flyers broadcasters at the time Gary Dornhoefer said something about boys being boys when Recchi, Lindros where stratched right before a game , Can't remember if Tocchett was scatached to . then Dornhoefer was taken of the TV for a bit and later on weeded him out the Tv Boardcastes . Tocchett was rumored to have thrown Lindros in to a locker Recchi tried breaking it up and was hurt to but if remember right Rob wasn't in Philly anymore and Lindros wanted to be traded Clarke was rumored to have sided with Tocchett so Lindros didn't want to be in Philadelphia anymore .But all these years later don't know what really happen

The Leafs had the same drama go on in the early 90's. Gary Leeman, the teams top goal scorer was also scoring with star teammate Al Iafrate wife. Iafrate was dealt first and then Leeman within a year. The Leafs got Zezel and Rouse from the Caps and Gilmour and Macoun etc. from the Flames. It was one of few times Toronto turned lemons into lemonade.

As a Sens/Stars fan, I was pissed about the whole Karlsson and Hoffman situation. Wish Hoffman was still there, because Ottawa robbed San Jose with that Karlsson trade. Sens have a lot of good rookies and Dzingel is back on the Sens and the Sens are playing much better this year.

I went to a kings practice when I was like 13 or 14 and saw Avery jumping and trying to fight the only star player at the time Alexander frolov
There’s also the Comrie nailing salo’s wife rumour and after that salo was never the save again his play removed his from the NHL fairly quickly

Bob Mackenzie used to come into the gas station i used to work at as a kid. He told us about the story of Recchi knocking Lindros out in the locker room.
I find it hard to believe anyone on the flyers could get the best of lindros. I watched his NHL fights and he dominated everyone of them.

I was interning for the Sharks radio station KFRC in 1995 and would go into the locker room for postgame interviews for sound for morning sports segments. I was a die hard Blues fan. The day the Sharks swapped their captain Jeff Norton for Janney I was in the locker room, although I didn't know the Shanahan situation. As a fan I despised Janney's softness in the corners, so I was pretty happy to see him off my team. He came into the locker room after his first Sharks game and everyone crowded around for sound. He gave the most dickish interview possible. It was all profanity. Every other word, and he knew nobody could use any of it and he seemed to enjoy it.
Can't really hold anything against the guy for that.
The media would get real old real fucking quick.

It’s because he’s black and unfortunately guys have low key racism towards him. Hockey is full of racists and they see a black guy and they think those guys don’t belong. Just look at Peters in Calgary and the racism. It exists. Further proof? The year Jose Theodore won the MVP, they robbed it from Jarome Iginla. They could give it to a black guy so they gave it to Theodore. It was the worst kept secret that everyone in and out of the hockey circles felt that Iginla should won it but magically he didn’t

He played with Marleau between 2006-'08. The video where he rips him is from the 2011 playoffs. So, no, he doesn't realize it, because Marleau was still hundreds of games away at the time.
Robyn Regehr and Dion Phaneuf, despite being defense partners, apparently hated each other. There was famously an incident where Jarome Iginla allegedly punched Dion Phanuf for playing Backstreet Boys full blast in the locker room. So it likely wasn' just Regehr that Phaneuf rubbed the wrong way. Phaneuf later claimed he liked their music.

There’s a lot of speculation amongst Panthers fans (yes we exist) that Hoffman and his fiancé Monika were unfairly blamed by Melinda and Erik because when he was here because there was never any issue with either of them in regards to his teammates and their families. Same with St. Louis and Montreal. Not a single issue occurred from him or his wife with them either.

Shanahan was traded after the team had a brawl inside and outside of a bar in Florida. Apparently, several teammates found out about the cheating and confronted shanahan, the brawl ensued with Denis Chasse getting the better of shanahan. This left keenan with no choice but to send the cheater packing and it worked out pretty good for the Blues in the long run.

Not necessarily, SJ fleeced Ottawa when they flipped hoffman to Florida.
They initially traded Hoffman to SJ to literally put him across the league away from Karlsson in the western conference, and then flipped him back to Florida for a better return and put him back in the same division as Karlsson.
When they traded Karlsson to SJ later there was a clause as part of the trade entitling the Sens to "other considerations" if SJ flipped Karlsson somewhere else like they did Hoffman
