Fly Fishers are a funny breed they will either stubbornly stick to what catches them fish or they will always be looking for the next best fly fishing pattern. I am 100% positive that flies just don't stop working they just fall from favour and sometimes even memory. When I was a whipper snapper of an angler this fly would hardly be off my cast. The combination of black and green was a firm favourite and seldom let me down. Fast forward to the old wrinkly me and I cannot remember the last time I tied one on! Do you have an old favourite you used to fish all the time that never sees the light of day now? Let me know in the comments section below.

Ah Lindsay memories.lol. I remember fishing with my grandad when I was 9yrs. His philosophy was if it catches it works. A garden cane slotted at the top, gut with a knot caught in there & a piece of my grannies coloured twine as an indicator. Hook & worm. I’m now 78yrs & started tying during the pandemic, learning all of the time watching tutorials on here then testing them out, such joy!
    Keep posting Lindsay, many thanks.
    Tight lines. Derick.

A great version Lindsay, of an all time classic pattern.....Yes I do still use them in competition sizes and they are still as deadly as they were 20 - 30 years ago.

The viva is certainly a blast from the past. It had many contemporary flies such as the Christmas Tree, the Baby Doll, the Appetizer, the Dog Nobbler and the Nailer to mention just a few. Do you still have any of these still lurking in your fly boxes?

I think I have one or two Appetizers but thats about it. I should rattle up some baby dolls they always did well in baby peach and white.
