Seattle should be 1st priority
Thatâs what Iâm saying they should be an automatically getting a new team đŻ
It is and it's a DONE deal..
HELL TF NO!
God damn right. The Sonics are such an iconic team, it's so weird having an NBA without them.
They are gonna be one. And if the grizzlies werenât in Memphis. Nashville would have been the second
Going with Seattle for tradition and Las Vegas because of the size of that market. Plus, geographically both make a lot of sense.
Where would you then place a Supersonics or a Vegas G-League affiliate?
@@A350Airways Well, a few years ago, there used to be a D-League in Boise (Idaho Stampede), so that could be an option. Vancouver could be another since it's closer and it would be a nice idea for the Canadian city to prove it can hold a basketball culture.
And from Vegas, using the same historical logic, you go with either Reno (Reno Bighorns) or the closer Bakersfield (Bakersfield Jam).
Although the most recent trend of G League affiliates is to place them in the same metropolitan area as the main team, so we'd probably see the affiliates in the Seattle and Vegas areas as well.
Henderson would be a very logical place for the Las Vegas affiliate while Tacoma or Olympia would be to Seattle
The most likely expansion locations will be out west, Seattle & Las Vegas so that they could place the Timberwolves in the Eastern Conference. Some people could argue Memphis or New Orleans move to the east instead because they are technically further east than Minneapolis, but Minnesota makes more sense to be in the Eastern Conference and be on the same division as the Chicago Bulls Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers, as examples, because 1) the other top North American sports leagues have Minnesota have a rivalry with Chicago 2) all of the Timberwolves current Western division rivals are too far away from them, and 3) it reduces travel time for Timberwolves whenever they go on the road
@@Kevin-Green I think New Orleans and Memphis will go east before Minnesota. Really good thought process though and totally with you.
I get what you're saying, but I think Memphis will be the team to move east before Minnesota or New Orleans.
@@Skinnyd4 it is fair to say that Memphis should move to the Eastern Conference once Seattle and Las Vegas join the Western Conference, but the Minnesota Timberwolves closest division rivals are the Oklahoma City thunder which are 788 miles away from Minneapolis and the Denver nuggets which are 914 miles away. Think about it, the Timberwolves already at a disadvantage due to how far away their closest division rivals are whatever the Timberwolves go on the road. If the Timberwolves were to be in the Eastern Conference, there are closest division rivals would-be Milwaukee and Chicago, two cities that are significantly much closer to Minneapolis than Oklahoma City and Denver. Anyways, Memphis or New Orleans would technically make more sense geographically since they are further east than Minneapolis, but Minneapolis for the most part had rivalries with Chicago in others major United States sports leagues. You are not wrong.
IMO I think more consideration should be given to a complete re-shuffle of divisions and conferences to improve travel times and time zone changes etc.
However, the entire schedule should be better balanced. At present you can be the best team in your division and in a weak conference and come out with a record much better than you are, potentially gain homecourt based on an easier schedule. A proper round robin (home and away), followed by pool play (pools set based on round robin records) to round out the 82 games - then top 16 teams make the playoffs, with the 8 most west teams (time zone, then coordinates) and the 8 most east teams make the playoffs (instead of just 1v16 format because money). Play-in game/teams only apply if team below top 16 is within 1-2 games. Home court stays with the bracket slot not the better team (so an 8 seed can steal from the 1 and then hold all the way to the finals).
When Glen Taylor finally gives up control of the Timberwolves, let hope the new owners donât move the team to Seattle or Kansas City.
Seattle and Vegas are going to be the next two cities getting NBA franchises.
1. Seattle
2. Vancouver
3. Vegas
4. Kansas City
5. Nashville
Vancouver? Lol. Are u high?
No with alot better ownership, management, drafting and GM they could do better.
The comissior already said he would like to return to Vancouver and if Seattle gets there team back instant rival
Pittsburgh
@@BAKER22-l4u You're high for not putting Van on that list only city bigger on the list is Seattle, not to mention it's got more affluent people than all those place, and it's denser and easier to sell out. The MLS team sells 23,000 tickets a game and a CFL team sells 25,000. NBA is much larger leagues than those easy sell outs..... Not to mention Vancouver had the same attendance as Memphis grizzlies currently do and the cities has more than 1 million more people than it did when it moved. Montreal is better than Kanas or Nashville
đMontgomery, Alabama needs NBA teamđ€
Kansas City deserves another chance to have a NBA team and should play in the eastern conference in their time frame honestly
If KC were to get a team, they would be put in the same conference as OKC. They would be a western conference team for sure, they are on the western side of the Mississippi
@@braynk but you look at the geometry standpoint thought
@@dreamcage1801 you mean geography right? If the league were expand to 32 teams I believe the league conferences would change to 4 sub conference each instead of 3 sub conferences that they currently have. In this scenario I could see DAL, HOU, OKC, KC all in the same conference. This would also help with the development of rivalries, as the 4 cities are close.
Vancouver and Seattle deserve a 2nd chance
The Grizzlies and Raptors were not the last expansion teams.. What about the Charlotte Bobcats who are now the Hornets? That's how there is a New Orleans Pelicans franchise, who were originally the Hornets
Charlotte Hornets came first the they moved to New Orleans. For the record all Charlotte records ( old and new Hornets plus the Bobcats) belong to The Hornets. The New Orleans Hornets and Pelicans records belong to The Pelicans.
@lamontbradford4630 I know, but that's not what this video said.. It said the last NBA expansion was Toronto and Vancouver lol
The New Orleans Pelicans are the Charlotte Hornets that came into the league in the '80s, but I think you're right about the current Hornets, who took on that identity when the Pelicans changed their name. I want to say they showed up around 2005?
As a Pelicans fan, he didn't even have N. O. on the NBA map. This youtuber is evidently not an NBA fan because he's done a horrible job at explaining teams that relocated to expansion. Plus, he's looked at international expansion possibilities, but not the limitations and challenges that follow: logistics, players' legal problems, players housing and investment in realestate, families, schools, etc... it's one thing in Canada where similar laws exist, Mexico is a pipe dream.
Seattle and Mexico City will be the best places for basketball
Seattle Sonics
Oklahoma City Thunder
Seattle Super Sonics
There is no other answer.
1 Seattle
2 Mexico City

They should've brought Seattle back a long time ago. Look how many teams Los Angeles has.
How many teams does LA have? 1/2 a team? Lakers are old and the clips are broken. Put the best of both of those teams together and I don't think they get out of the 1st round
all of them! better distribution of players. better tactics. better coaching. better games
Seattle & Las Vegas r definitely locks 4 an expansion franchise. Pittsburgh Kansas City Nashville & St. Louis r also great choices
Nashville will never happen because Memphis wouldn't allow it. 32 teams is the perfect number for a sports league. Seattle and Vegas. Each new team lowers the odds of championships for other teams. So a sports league can't just endlessly create expansion teams.
NBA can not add only 1 expansion team in next round since NBA would have an ODD number of teams. They're gonna add 2 teams which will be in Seattle and Las Vegas, and both teams will be in the Western Conference and then the NBA is going to move the New Orleans Pelicans and the Memphis Grizzlies to the Eastern Conference where they should've been all along geographically speaking.
@@itinservice I share this exact sentiment.
I'm amused years on this is still happening, but at least this wasn't on TV like what happened on ESPN. If 2 teams are added in the West. Only ONE Western team can move East. Cause the end result needs to be adding 1 team to each conference.
Off topic. The Dallas should be in the NFC South. While Tampa Bay should be in the NFC East.
Memphis should move east where should be anyway.
Only memphis would move east
Vegas and Seattle will get it this round but Iâd love to see one go to Mexico City one day.

No Montreal? The metro is literally bigger than Seattle or Las Vegas⊠Plus why does California have 4 teams? While Canada who is the same size only has one?
@@seananthony7494 fair points.
The big Montreal problems are weather (it's horribly cold by NBA standards, Detroit, Toronto, Milwaukee, Chicago and Minnesota would be the closest things in existing NBA markets), taxes (even in the absence of jock taxes, Quebec taxes are atrocious) and, to a lesser extent, international travel.
Language, while brought up before, is mostly a front office problem, considering that one can live in Montreal without speaking French (just not necessarily everywhere in the city), and the front office will have to deal with the fans and the media more than individual players will.
@@A350Airways The Language barrier would be easier to navigate then it would in Mexico City, there is a higher percentage of English Speakers in Quebec then there is Mexico, also it would be a huge free agent destination for the French speakers in the league.
Like Victor Wembanyama, Joel Embiid, Rudy Gobert, and this yearâs first and second picks are French. Not including next yearâs lottery picks are looking more and more French.
Seeing how hard Montreal is wanting a NBA team I wouldnât be surprised if they offer the NBA some tax breaks. But I think they are a more likely pick than Mexico City or Kansas City.
@@seananthony7494thereâs also more and more players going into the league from MontrĂ©al or the province of Quebec. MontrĂ©al would become a big market franchise
Y'all had the grizzlies at one time and let them get away.
And California has four teams because California has a bigger population than Quebec does.
Correction: there hasnât been an NBA expansion team since 2004, when the Charlotte Bobcats had their inaugural season. The original Hornets franchise moved from Charlotte to New Orleans in 2002, and then Charlotte got a new team in 2004 with the Bobcats moniker and the number of NBA teams was raised from 29 to 30. In 2013, Bobcats ownership purchased the Hornets-rights from New Orleans including the original Charlotte Hornetsâ history and records
Regarding the potential for future expansion: I would wager that we will get 4 expansion teams within the next 15 years. This due to 1) âtoo muchâ parity resulting from the new CBA, 2) the play-in tournament has removed the âmiddle classâ of teams and has thusly created a big divide between the good to great teams and the bad teams, and 3) there has been an influx of talent into the NBA from non-US countries and the âwealthâ needs to be spread out (both in terms of talent but also payroll). My guess is that we will see US expansion by 2030 with my odds-on favorites being Seattle (for historic reasons) and Las Vegas (due to financial reasons), however, if gambling is deemed too much of a risk in Vegas I would put my money (ironically) on Kansas City due to fan interest, market size, and geographic location. Then by 2040, I would wager that we get at least one international team with Mexico City and Montreal being at the top of my list of cities due to market size and location (maybe Vancouver just edges Montreal as the Canadian team for historical reasons) with LV or KC as US dark horses depending on what happens within the next 6 years

Vegas and Seattle will get an expansion team first but KC, SD, Pittsburgh, Nashville, etc will definitely be in the running for the next round after this.
Pittsburgh is not a basketball town not even close. It's just a football town. KC, SD and Nashville have no chance and wouldn't support BB now or in the past
Little Rock, Arkansas can have a team. And they can play at Simmons bank arena. SBA has hosted the ncaa tournament a couple times for menâs and womenâs so it can house an nba team.

KC is a maybe.

Expansion is on the horizon, and with the CBA completed and Media Rights Deal beginning its negotiation period, it seems that it is only a matter of time before the NBA expands. I strongly believe Seattle and Las Vegas will be awarded teams in the next expansion round, but given Adam Silver and Marc Tatumâs rhetoric surrounding Mexico City, it is reasonable to believe that Mexico City will be considered as well. However, these are some logistical issues with expansion that the NBA simply cannot avoid:
Altitude- This one is huge. Mexico City has an elevation of 7,349 ft, more than 2,000 feet more than Denver. The altitude is visibly a problem for players. This isnât the Olympics. This isnât baseball. This isnât football. In the NBA, players do not have days to prepare for events in extremely high elevation. They will have to fly into Mexico City, play that night, and then fly out the next morning. When the Heat played the Spurs in December in Mexico City, the entire Heat team, one of the best conditioned teams in the NBA, looked incredibly exhausted. 41 games in Mexico City simply is not realistic. Even for the G league team, opposing players such as Willie Cauley-Stein have had to sit out games due to the altitude. Imagine Embiid or Zion playing in Mexico City.
Travel: This one isnât as big of an issue, but itâs hard to ignore. Yes, Mexico City to NYC is a shorter flight than NYC to LA, but you have to consider that Mexico City is far from EVERY NBA team. The nearest NBA city from NYC is Philly, which is 94 miles. The nearest NBA city from Mexico City is San Antonio, which is 700 miles. Portland may be far from other NBA cities, but it is much closer to Sacramento and San Francisco than Mexico City is to San Antonio, and presumably Seattle when it returns will also be very close to Portland. Mexico City is out of the way for any road trip. Add the hassle of international travel and it becomes clear that travel would be an obstacle, regardless of what Mark Tatum might have said in December.
Desirability: I also strongly believe that players will not want to live in Mexico City. The country as a whole is less developed than Canada and the United States, and while Mexico City is very nice and cosmopolitan, it is still very culturally different than the United States and Canada, not to mention the language barrier that exists. Expecting players to move their families to Mexico City is something that I do not think is reasonable from the NBA's point of view. The NBPA does not have a direct say in expansion, but given how much the league front office and owners value players, it would be hard to imagine the NBA expanding to Mexico City against the will of the players. Again, Mexico City has world-class restaurants, clubs, and venues, but if players do not want to play in Toronto and especially did not want to play in Vancouver, Mexico City seems next to impossible. I mean, you cannot even drink the tap water in CDMX, and MLB and NFL players have reported getting sick from the food. The G-League players that rave about Mexico City are also making much less money, so the five star treatment they receive is a major step up from anything else they would get. NBA players are making much more money, so they would gain little from the cushy lifestyle that the G-League players in Mexico City have. Also, G-League players have fewer options to play basketball professionally, so they would be much more willing to play in Mexico City, but because NBA players have options, it is hard to imagine many players choosing Mexico City over the US or Canada. Keep in mind Mexico City has an HDI of 0.815, while the lowest US state, Mississippi, has an HDI of 0.866. These things matter when considering where players want to or would even tolerate playing and raising a family. Finally, CDMX can be very racist to black people, and anti-black behavior is unfortunately more tolerated in Mexico than the US or Canada, which would undoubtedly affect NBA players in Mexico City.
Safety: On paper, Mexico City is safer than some NBA cities, but it is the perception that still makes it an issue. The view is that because Mexico City is in Mexico, by extension Mexico City is unsafe. For this reason, the G-League team in Mexico needs armed security to and from games. Now, imagine how much additional security NBA players would need. The players would also effectively be made to live in a bubble in Polanco, which will probably create extra challenges for getting to and from games. Traffic and pollution are also absolutely horrendous. These are simply issues which do not exist in Seattle or Las Vegas. Edit: While Mexico City appears to have lower crime rates than many NBA cities, I strongly believe Mexican crime statistics are severely underreported compared to American crime statistics. Experts have indicated that over 90% of crimes go unsolved in Mexico, so it would not surprise me if Mexico Cityâs true crime rate is actually higher than any NBA city. Plus, Mexico police is much more corrupt than American/Canadian police on all levels, so that certainly doesnât help.
Currency: Selling tickets in pesos, a currency much weaker than USD or CAD, and paying salaries in USD is also bound to be an issue.
Look, an NBA team in Mexico City is somewhat an intriguing idea, but from a logistical standpoint, it will be a disaster. I do largely think that Silver and Tatum's rhetoric regarding Mexican expansion has been that of PR to keep the Mexican market engaged, as well as to place pressure on Seattle or Las Vegas. Just my thoughts.
@@Kevin-Green really interesting though process and perspective. Thank you for sharing.
Very true points youâre taking into account here. I personally think maybe they should look at a city in Northern Mexico, in a bordering state. I immediately think about Monterrey, NL
Media rights are finalized too now
Seattle and Las Vegas 1000%
and you can now move the Memphis Grizzlies over to the eastern conference and have 8 divisions 4 in each conference
and also with expanding to 32 teams the playin in tournament makes so much more sense now
@@angeloaaz đŻ
Minnesota too
@@dreamcage1801 Minnesota is kind of screwed to stay in the western conference because if you add two western conference teams you could only flip one to the east and Memphis is absolutely more east coast then Minnesota plus you gotta remember Memphis took Vancouver spot which was extremely west coast by Seattle so Memphisâs division schedule has been terrible over the years constantly having to fly they only get an easy schedule when there playing the Florida teams and the Hawks
@@angeloaazif Silver expands to 4 or 6 cities them Memphis and Minnesota moves to the east
