    Ok Chrome!
    Here is a question, a lot of your videos has you driving and your drone flying above filming you.
    How the heck are you doing that?
    Cheers!... and love your videos.

    • @VANCITYVANLIFE
      @VANCITYVANLIFE  Před 3 lety +60

      Easy. Put the Drone up in the air. Push the joystick forward and hope it doesn’t hit a tree while I drive down the road. HAHA. I literally fly it blind. I have the DJ I Mavic mini and it does not have the follow feature. All the drones above this one you literally tap the van on the screen and the drone will follow the van. Mine doesn’t have that feature so I literally got a fly blind and hope for the best.

    You and Foresty Forest are my faves because you two are down to earth, living van life not for show. You don’t go out buying a new $100k van and then put in $100k to turn it into living space. I'm from Alaska and have used winches quite a bit. Can I suggest, get a female hitch receiver on the front and on the back and mount a winch to a male receiver because sometimes you may need a winch on the front and back. This way you can store the winch inside until you need it. You get the point. Plus you could use the front or rear hitch for a bicycle holder for you and Cruisy!
    It's nice to have options. Cheers mate!

      I once had a little voice in my head that woke me up around 2am and said "MOVE. NOW!" So I hopped in the driver seat and started driving. A minute later the car parked behind me got slammed by another vehicle from behind into the space I was parked in. Thank goodness I sleep with the key in the ignition! Chrome, no raised roof, too much wind pushing you around on the highway, and maybe hitting trees. However, a pop up roof might be something to consider. Although your roof box weight will be limited, or not even possible. Do more in the next replacement van. Baja grocery getter 6 inch lift (WeldTec Designs), with a limited slip rear end will get you most everywhere.

    Two things about your van (full sized), as opposed to something like an Astro/Safari, besides space...
    Rain gutter. A lot of the smaller ("aerodynamic") vans do not have a rain gutter to attach things (ladder, roof rack, etc) to. That's a BIG plus with a full sized van!
    Swing out doors, as opposed to a sliding door. Minimal to zero storage space on sliding doors, whereas, you can attach various storage/convenience options, to swing out doors.
    Keep up the great work Chrome!

    Hello and yes the WINCH again . I have been in the towing business for 25 years . I use a 12,000 pound winch mounted on a tray to slide in to a trailer reciver . This i use on my off road recovery Toyota Tacoma . Install trailer hitch under front bumper and rear bumper . A winch mounted in front could be useless for you if stuck the other way . In the recovery business dosen't mater but by your self off grid it may . You could keep winch strapped down in your garage area in the van and also not exposed to outside daily . I have been watching your channel for about a year now and Cruze is a big part of your channel .

    Not into hardtops either. I hear you about aeration >>> windows. Privacy and safety first. Now we can install small fans with tiny air intakes strategically hidden... Even passive ones, the difference in temp between toe level and head level is enough to have them running. Re summer heat: Reflective film on the roof could help maybe? No sink or shower (even toilets) inside: Hell yeah! No humidity or mold, no plumbing that goes wrong. As Elon would say, best part is no part. Space is precious. Freezer over fridge for me.

    Great, informative video. It was right on point for me. Decisions make a whole lot more sense to me now. Thanks for sharing with us. If I were to do this van living, insects would be my biggest issue. I feel like dinner if it crawls or flies. Any ideas? That shot of the van in the snow at the beginning was epic. Post card perfect. You and partner have a wonderful weekend and find some new tidbits of info to share. Be safe. Blessings

    Q and A is much better on a video than a live stream. Newbies just keep asking things that have already been covered multiple times. Regarding your "assistant" , love you Madison! And hey to Rayner!

    I agree about the shower. I have a sketch for a kick plate shower pan that pops out from under my kitchen cabinets. Going to wait awhile to see if I actually need it.

    U answered a question I haven't asked yet! I was thinking I needed the larger gas tank. I had a suburban years ago and I could drive around 10 or more hours without gas. Now it's 4hrs.

    I would like to know how much the van weighs by putting on on the scale full of fuel and water with all the additions he put in there because he's talking about putting heavier Springs in the back 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 this would make for a good video seeing the van go on the scales and find out how much added weight you have👍👍

    • @christinamann3640
      @christinamann3640 Před 3 lety

      Also go through all the upgrades the weight requires, and what wears out and needs to be maintained because of it.
