  • New federal data provides insight into who provides unpaid care for our elderly and young children, including the so-called "sandwich generation," who juggle the demands of both family and career.
As Anne Gaviola explains, this data sheds light on the hidden toll of free labour that keeps our economy running and households afloat.

So you want to be paid for looking after your family? Her kids are teenagers. I'm sure they are not useless.

True, her teens need to step up if they haven’t yet, but she is still working to support them as they are dependents.

They're also talking about how how burdensome caretaking is and how it negatively impacts your mental and physical health. It's not worth it.

Poor me, poor me. Don't want to look after kids don't have them. Your parents are your problem, self entitlement to the extreme.

Dont have kids. Don't have to caretake old parents either. It's actually not required by law to caretake them. Loads of people stick their parents into nursing homes.

Don't have kids. Simple. There needs to be more nursing homes for elderly care. Care taking an old person is too demanding and takes a toll on your mental an dphysical health. It's a burden and not worth it.

so... working and taking care of your family is benign nowadays. You can do both. You expect to be paid to take care of your family? Many cultures have multi generational homes where they take care of one another.

We all know what we’ve gotta do, but male siblings who do nothing to help are the real reason it’s so hard. Selfish people will stand by and watch while they take care of themselves only. Really, they know what’s going on big time, and they couldn’t care less. That’s what we need to fix and never will. The story is as old as Adam and Eve.
