Update on the E36 M3 Project - Plans and Overview

  • So what exactly am I doing with this Techno Violet E36 M3? The idea is to restore the car to its original glory and add some small tweaks like clear corners and custom M-Cross Recaros, Brembo BBK, BBS E87s, and some TTX Ohlins coilovers! This is my first real venture into turning a "stinky old car" into a like-new from the factory with some OEM+ touches to bring it up to a 2021 M car standard. All I know is that this car is going to be amazing!

    Pro tip for some OEM+ wheels. Get some style 21's!
    Also you could install a X brace in the front, they come on convertibles and they fit right onto all e36's. They help stiffen up the front a bunch.

    If you want a Brembo big Brake kit but in original BMW parts you can use the E46M3 CSL front Disks and the 6piston BMW Performance Calipers.
    A company named "Epytec" here in Germany makes the Adapter for this conversion.
    But with this BBK you only can use 18inch wheels.

  • @MotorenWerkeN52
    @MotorenWerkeN52 Před 3 lety +8

    Just use the oem water pump. This is the same case as the E92 rod bearings. The pumps easily last 60k-80k and don't start leaking like the metal propeller.
    Also, use the oem plastic thermostat housing, metal ones warp and leak over time.

    • @M3LKS
      @M3LKS Před 3 lety +1

      Agree. Plastic impellers are totally fine - also less weight to spin.

    • @MotorenWerkeN52
      @MotorenWerkeN52 Před 3 lety

      Yeah, I believe BMW revised the pump propeller to be made with composite material which is far stronger than the original plastic.

    • @ZeddysZ
      @ZeddysZ Před 3 lety

      I was thinking the same thing. Metal albeit stronger is heavier. The composite material is lighter will spin more efficiently for a lot longer and causes least damage to the bearings. I hate that there is no definitive proof whether metal or plastic impeller is the best hands down.

  • @timothyer2447
    @timothyer2447 Před 3 lety +4

    That BMW OE water pump is actually fine - it has a composite impeller, far better than the old plastic ones that crack. I'd actually use a composite impeller over a metal one, since the heavier (cast) impellers place more wear on the bearings

    When you do the clutch also replace the Clutch Release Fork (Part #: 21511223302) and the Ball Pin (Part #: 21511223328). I’d get the Stainless Steel Pin from BimmerWorld (Part #: RE.CLU.PIN). Part of the reason your Clutch engages so low is that the Fork has wear on it. A tiny amount of wear on that fork, yields a tremendous amount of lowered clutch engagement. How much legal Cannabis mg is it on? To operate at that speed? I’ll might buy it if it can hit 233.2 k top speed. On stock tune of course. Nice work keep it up. I love that OCD tribute to this E36. This might be the most fine E36 M US spec contenders? Pardon my English.

    My car had super low bite too and turned out to be the Throwout bearing and the sleeve being messed up. Check up on that too. I did a whole refresh in my trans. Jb racing flywheel from Bimmerworld with Sachs m5 clutch and Sachs m3 pressure plate from FCPEURO.

      @@jonathanmoga5188 You're right, thought I remembered some differences in how the cooling line mounted, but that was with the steelbodied racks. ZHP is actually (potentially) less complicated to swap.

    Hey Matt, can you add the anti seize for Porsche centerlocks to your store? Very tricky to find online, especially outside of the states, and there would be alot of overlap between the customer bases (in relative terms).

    Where did you get the door cards from? It looks like there’s no speakers in them, so you plan to add them or leave them out?
