In my book and in the book and memories of every one that follows Judo world wide knows for a fact that Shinohara was the winner of the match by far and I'm totally convinced that there was something going on behind closed door regarding this and the other matches between Shinohara & Mrs. Douillet.. Shame on the referees....... Shame on Douillet for not facing the fact that he lost every match to Shinohara.

i saw the video many times and watched it at that time, shinohara is still one of my favorite judokas in this class, i admire him for his sportsmanship but i still think he won the match, nevertheless he is a champion in everyway.

Actually, after watching the throw 100 times (thanks CZcams!) I would tend to agree with you. Before that, I was so sure that Shinohara had won. But I see Douillet doing the throw, no counter, and if nothing else, like another one said, Douillet ipponed himself. Tough call. Douillet landed on his back after all. I'm still on the fence. I admire that Shinohara did not blame the ref, like some viewers do: that's the mark of a true Judoka. It's a close call. Not a ripoff.
@RayanFern Happened to me too my coach taught a sweet little side separation variation from a hip throw attempt and my opponent was awarded an ippon =/.
ippon by shinohara... judge made bad mistake. Too bad there's no instant replay in judo. I can see how refereeing judo is difficult but the other judges should've reversed the call.
mTW, by the way, after checking your profile, I would like some Katame Waza with Britney Spears too. I like your point, but the uchi-mata-gaeshi had nothing to do with Shinohara. I think. This sequence is similar to responding to morote-gari with tawara gaeshi. If you are caught , fall, but then roll your opponent over, should you get credit for the end result? Tough call, man. Tough call.

The shoulder of Shinohara hits the ground as a consequence of his opponent's uchimata (and Douillet is logically awarded an advantage, here a yuko). The japanese cannot score after this. Besides there is no technique used to make Douillet fall.

Ive been the victim of poor refereeing on more than one occasion, its shocking that such mistakes occur in olympic judo as well

no way this is a uchi mata sukashi, there's no action from shinoara, douillet falls only because of his own movement.

クマさん 多分ですけど篠原選手の内股透かしではなくドゥイエ選手の内股が有効にしたんですよ！なぜ有効になったかと言うですかと言うというと主審は篠原選手の方に体を向けていてドュイエ選手のやつは見てなかったんですよ
