If it comes down to drawing two cards in your control deck with your treasure coves or doubling your calendar, a true control mage will be able to withstand the urge to double.
Umm actually I take it back. In the next game he is saying some wild stuff that makes me think he doesn't know how the card works.
This was like the third or fourth turn in a row he chose not to double the calendar

Using the Calendar with Teferi seems obvious. But that would require actually using the calendar’s ability.
Surprised that wasn't the first iteration of this deck tbh. Calendar fits so well into UW control as a wincon, plus you can play teferi
@@discojv8760 I just slapped two calendars in to my UW Teferi deck just for grins to see if I can do it. If nothing else, players seem to fear it and waste a turn and/or mana destroying it.

I’m not the kind of subscriber that likes to point every little mistake, but that last game was huge 😂
- Discarding the Virtues (against a graveyard deck! - and having valid targets for the -3/-3)
- Not doubling the Calendar (literally the wincon)
- and overcommitting to the blast zone (if you’re gonna have to tap it again next turn anyway, why not put 1 less counter and double the calendar)
I was literally screaming at the screen 🤣 I know you’re in a rush (for a very deserved vacation), but this deck deserves a new video
He also had a chance to blast zone the opponent's board, and swing with the Calix to copy his Virtue
The first game was also filled with bad plays and missed triggers
If you untap 8 permanents each turn and double every turn, it will take you 6 turns to get there. It's very feasible, just not very fast.
Also, doubling is not worth it on the early turns, but doubling later is a must. It grows exponentially.
An aggro deck will probably kill you before the Calendar reaches 1000. A control deck will probably have a Farewell, Leyline Binding, Otawara, Boseiju, Void Rend...
@@RationalEgoismdefinitely not a build around card more like an alt wincon for lols. If it works it works. With that said youre definitely better off playing this in a control deck where you COULD build around it and not get it blown up. Im sure you could put it in a midrange deck too just not as a 4x'r
That's why we play it in a control shell of our own and not just with eight lands and a lucky cat rigged up to our mouse to hit the end turn button for us@@RationalEgoism

CGB your never gonna wi. With the calander if you dont double the counters on it as often as possible, i get that in most matches there are thinks that must be delt with, but if you have the open mana double the counters, MAKE them have the removal for the card.and btw for the math if you literally tap nothing else but the calander and the mana to double it it will get to 1000 counters in 8 turns thats worse case scenario with minimal tapping providing you double it every turn so every chance you get to double it you should take it if you have the extra mana

the trick to that calendar is that you don't win by untapping, you win by doubling; it could start with 15 counters on it instead of getting counters from untapping and essentially be the same card. if youre seriously on the calendar plan you want the 4mv innistrad teferi to untap it and use it again.

Calendar is roughly an 8 turn win con assuming you start doubling it at 5+ counters. It’s just hard to dedicate the mana every turn for that; especially when you are dangling card draw in front of CGBs face. You know he can’t resist card draw

I just realized CGB was back from his vacations when I saw the post-game wrap.
Seems the calendar would fit better in a blue/white control deck with board wipes and counterspells, mono black doesn't have the card draw to keep up with aggro decks.

Two copies of path of peril would help alot against tokens and cheap creatures. With celestus and treasures its easy to cleave aswell if needed
This is now my favorite CGB video, i had so much fun watching this video. i love decks with silly Win-Con's and when they do win it feels even more awesome then normal.
I created a millennium calendar deck as well but with the All Will Be One Enchantment
I'll forgive the missed activations since it's a new card, I'm just glad to see something off meta. Would definitely enjoy seeing it paired up with Teferi in a future vid!

some deathtouch creatures(the ones with lifelink) would prob be good in this deck to replace some kills spells, could bring them back with the enchantment and use them to block for lili

With celestus you don't need to splash
Celestus and treasures provide white mana.

He just always has other things to do euth his mana.

I would honestly play this as esper with a mill secondary theme. You will need to protect your calendar with counterspells sometimes. Otherwise farewell/abrade etc just says gg
The one problem is no opponents let the calendar deck hit... they scoop or kill it.

Tried this one out and ran into not 1 but 3 people running the new merfolk that counters activated abilities. Matchmaker is fine.

I got wrecked by this a couple days ago. Guy played it. I had otawara and helf it waiting until the best time to bounce it. And then he played all will be one and dealt 350 damage to me. I was not playing the world greatest life gain deck so I lost
I'm just waiting for the moment when a lifegain deck takes a hit from the calendar and survives.
Sweepers and removal are bad enough right now, i wonder if some kind of turbo fog style defense is just better.
Calendar's are fun, but you have to actually keep doubling it which means sacrificing life

The Calendar follows the rule of "there is no kill like overkill". Unfortunately so many times you play it you still can't finish it.
Would definitely like to see a redo of the calendar. 2^10 = 1024 so it's a minimum 10 turn wincon if you double every turn. If it starts at 4+ counters from an initial untap, that drops to 8 turns. Control games can easily last longer than that. It's a much faster wincon than people realize

I use the millenial Calendar, which tells how many years before I can pay back my student loans.
This deck felt like CGB liked the cards and felt like he could meme include calendar. The calendar is a meme, there are way to many ways to counter it, but trying to get there is the fun part, and this kind of felt like an obligation. Fun deck though, I love monoB control.

The all will be one izzet version of calendar seems like a better shell for counter wins. But this cgb patience is a wincon deck is fun to watch…and not play against (looking at all of you)
I love CGB, but I swear the wincon was to annoy the opponent. :)) Which is pretty much in line with what I expect from the one in best of one.

Funny you say "blast zone" is like an unknown card, i have played against people that have it out but seem to forget about it when it could really wreck me...

Everyone complaining about not using the calendar. I was gonna come down here and complain about randomly killing a 2/2 with virtue in the first game instead of a 3/3 but I guess the blunders don’t get better

I hate this deck, but it's very good and keeps getting better cards with each set. The rotation should have taken care of that.
I hate that we have Map tokens, and Treasure tokens, but somehow Treasure Map wasn't retconned to be either of those.

19:34 Misplay here. You should have cast Sheoldred's Edict and chosen nontoken creature. Then you could have target removed the 3/3 and still had another go for the throat for whatever big dino came next.
