@Marco Caracciolo Yes, I agree. I much preferred Mark Agnesi. It’s always Van Halen with Lemmo. And I love Van Halen, but when you hear it almost every GOTD it gets real boring.

That's a 2013, which was a big year for historics - Hide glue, correct fretboard inlays and correct binding material/color. They also went back to one-piece fretboards after the gov't raid left them using laminated boards in 2012.
Yep, you can tell right away by the logo on the backplate of the switch cavity. And then by the inlays (shattered glass instead of the swirly pattern) and no pinkish plastic parts anymore...

I have a 2001 R8 with a very similar top. Amazing instrument. One I’ll never sell or trade.
Thing sounds like it has 7s on it. Love that finish though. When somebody asks why anyone thinks real Gibsons are worth more, show them this video. For all the tone!

I have a 2013 R8, looks and sounds a lot like this one. Just a shame I can't play it like Lemmo does!
Is the neck huge on it . I have small hands , would an R8 work for me ? Thanks
@@rv6205 no one can answer this question for you. R6 R7 R8 will always have a bigger chunkier neck compared to a 60s model. Its personal preference. In my experience with Custom Shop guitars, some are thicker, and heavier, than others. Being you have smaller hands, you may appreciate the Les Paul Classic. They are very nice! and not as expensive as a Custom shop.

You can tell by the plaque on the back that it’s a 2013, the old reissues didn’t do the plaques. Also the frets should help, as well as the tuners

Ramble On is one of those happy places…especially on an old 30’s Gibson LOO. Something about the cut brightness and swing!

Lemmo just keeps exceeding expectations with these Gotd's recently. His playing is so underrated. He's good enough to play with the greats but he chooses Norms. Says something about him, and about Norms.

We'd love to hear that same R8 through an old Marshall, like back to back with the Fender. I.'m not criticizing but you seem to be stuck on the Fender amps. At least do a comparison.....shakin' up the play book might wake your shake up.....do love ya' man.....
You can never go wrong with a Fender but you are right; just for the variety. Voxes would be cool too.

I must be the only one who can't stand the tone of that hotrod! Fantastic playing by Lemmo -as always :) -and guitar, but the distortion always sounds too fuzzy and muddy to me... Fender makes some kick ass amps but something has always sounded off to me about this one

mmm no, this one shouldn't go for more than 3.5 grand, maybe 3.75 for the flames. if anyone asks for more, even in todays disgusting market you should ask for a solid discount.

I have bad OCD. If I'm dropping 5K+ on a guitar, I wanna know it's birth date.
Didn't care for the neck pickup by itself. It sounded really muddy to me. The other two positions made up for it, though. Could have been the amp settings, I guess.
The excess of reverb wasn't helping anything either.
Gibson Customer Service can give you the model year. Not sure if Murphy Lab existed in 2003….
He wasn’t saying it was a Murphy Lab. It’s just a plain old Custom Shop. Murphy lab started in 2021.
