So nice of the commentator to give Royal Mail as a tip when he already knew the result

Wonderful old footage , always to see these nostalgic old names , especially any film of the great Golden Miller , still the only horse ever to win the Gold Cup and Grand National in the same year , L Escargot achieved the double , but not in the same year .

Seems the jockeys were a lot bigger than they are today.

Is that purely from a visual point of view? I dont think the stats support it but there have always been the tall jockey here and there. I can think of a few, but mostly amateurs. I think the tallest to ride was Alan Jones (Brit 1987). About 6'4 and a professional. Malcolm Batters (Martinstown -1981) was around 6'3. Tallest to win was Bruce Hobbs 6ft 1.5. Tallest rider at present (not in GN) may be an Amateur called Patrick Sankey. I think he is 6'7

Not happy with the disrespect shown to Uncle Batt - twice a fifth placed finisher in two previous Nationals.

@@mdluk199 Certainly was Mark , the British knew how to dress and look their best when out as the paying customer. My late Dad always had a shirt n tie when he was at the races and very proud too. I was born 1960 and was taught disapline and respect. First race course visit 1967 and always remember the book makers immaculately dressed too. Momentous days then and N.H n the Flat fabulous races and brave jockeys. Kind regards Glynn n greetings from Stourbridge West Midlands UK 🤝
