  • In this episode I show how I installed a new Delco EST ignition system for my Mercruiser 5.7L. The old thunderbolt V ignition module gave up the ghost, so it was time to make the switch! Enjoy...
    Here's the kit I bought for my boat:

    Great video. Just wondering how the boat performs on the water after the conversion. Better, worse or the same? Does the cutout switch function as good as before? Thanks

    Been having a hard time getting my mercruser out of gear. Need to look at the possibility of the engine cut out not working. Thanks.

    Hey just from looking at it it looks like you have the exact same set up as my 5.7 and I was curious what you used as a Keed 12 V connection for the cut off switch And which wire is the Interrupt wire on the distributor kit?

    So what did you do with the yellow wire for the temp switch for the audio alarm that went to the old Module

    What about the all in one hei distributors on ebay for 129 bucks. They have a coil on the unit.

    Man I just rebuilt my engine then on the water while running it just shut down. Then it wouldn’t start. I’m not getting any spark. I think my ignition module is bad.

    Your video was useful as I needed to know more about the Delco distributor. I would like to add being as former automotive master tech. I would mount the coil on the block so the coil is grounded. Coils have always been mounted to the engine and never had an issue with vibration failure. At least run a ground wire to the coil if not mounted to the block. Just sayin. Anyhow, , I have a 7.4L MPI in my boat and under a current rebuild now and eliminating the MPI system with a carb with minor performance modification. Do you know what the timing curve is on the Delco EST and would this be suitable for a modified engine?

    Nice. Mounting the coil on the hull of the boat in a convenient location could be problematic. The screw could go through the hull and protrude out the other side where somebody could be injured by the screw protrusion?

      I mounted it where there is plywood coring.. there is 1/2in ply and 1/2in of total laminate.. I used 3/4 inch screws plus there is the metal thickness of the bracket.. I agree it would be a terrible idea to screw to the hull in a place with no coring

      @MadPropsMakes  Před 2 lety

      No, you reuse the old cutout switch, but instead of it grounding out, it supplies 12v so you have to rewire it

      What’s the matter? You find a free video that helps you with something you couldn’t figure out yourself and when you utilize this video you find it not filmed in the way you prefer. You want him to edit the video to show only exactly what you want. Typical internet narcissist.
