IMO, JR is the best drum teacher on youtube. The videos are always so well done and his approach is always something I can wrap my head around. Most videos are just “show off-y” and discourage me. Jeff’s videos do the opposite. They inspire me. Thanks Jeff for yet another helpful video!
Perfectly said
he is really good ay
0:35 "there's just so much noise out there". Sums it up perfectly! Nicely done once again, Jeff. "Useful" does not have to be complicated.
Thanks Jeff! This and your "Ultimate Guide to Playing Drum Fills" gave me a great foundation of knowledge to build fills off of. The way you break down the ingredients in the sauce is a great way to help others apply useable knowledge - opposed to memorizing stock licks. Any chance you'll do a video that goes more in-depth into the next steps for fills? So very grateful for your work!
Love the way you make everything easy to learn and stressing the importance of locking down the mandatory pillars from which to build upon. You're not only a great drummer but an incredible teacher. Thanks so much
This video is gold, so helpful! Thanks Jeff!!
Absolutely Drew!
Thank you Jeff, im lacking at my fills, but this video really gave me the structure i needed to make my grooves more interesting ❤
this guy is *criminally* underrated
You just dont know how important thiese videos are for me. I just got back at learning drums. I almost gave up. Thank you!
your first minute of this video is so true. after leaving high school i couldnt afford lessons and became an internet study-drummer, and after months of trying to just follow tutorials, i found it much easier, challenging, and FUN to just watch drummers play live sets and tried to do what they were doing. getting bogged down in the lessons of things was such a drag, not to mention rough on the confidence
Thanks Jeff - your kit always sounds amazing and your playing is so precise and your groove is always fluid. Inspirational stuff 🤘
Thanks Sam
Thank you Jeff. Videos are best on CZcams!
Amazing instruction. It is very structured and gives the student a map towards better fills!
Keep up the good work jeff!!!
Your hairstyle has me hypnotized !!
So much help!!!
This video is awesome🤩, exactly how drums should be taught
Think I needed this one
Intereting and VALUABLE as usual! It helps!
The best lessons on CZcams. Cheers from Poland
Awesome and clear as always! 🔥
Thank you!
Great lesson, thank you very much! 🥁
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow. I love the way you play. Well time for me to start practicing these
Jeff!!! Guy you're too good!👍 I'm working on this. Thanks a lot.
This is super helpful. I have been stuck on making my fills more advanced for the longest time ever and this jus helps to clarify things. I now have a direction on how to practise. Thank you so much for your generosity in sharing drum knowledge! :)
Very useful and understandeable ! Thank you so much ! Cheers from France
It would be cool if you did a video sometime showing your mic placement and mix you put on your kit. sounds great
Very underrated channel. 🖤
A very good and clear video!🙌🏾
Thanks Jon
Thank you Jeff 👌
You’re very welcome Richard!
👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾 Jeff back with another goodie
Like I've said many times before, Jeff is the man! The best drum videos on CZcams by far!
Thanks bud!
Great video and great smooth playing!
Thanks!
Very very cool ! Thanks !
For sure!
Very useful jeff thanks!
Glad to hear it!
Been playing drums since I was 15. I am 36 now. Always learning something new on drums. It is a never ending process. Your videos are the best. Mostly because I am a visual learner. Keep it up :)
Great post, lots of interesting ideas for beginner to intermediate students. Your flams are more open than I would let my students get away with….almost 32nd notes. They do sound very good in your examples which makes them ‘your own’. Really am enjoying your videos.
Cheers Jeff!
Cheers!
So good man 🙌🏻
Thanks John!
One thing I love that you never grip to cymbals mute sustain
Thanks Jeff, gonna take these ideas and run with em
Do work!
Subbed.
Cheers bro.
Rudiments practice is practice make practice perfect together as u explain is great for variety of skill leveled drumming
Soon as I grab new kit. I'll get with you. Get some new ideas. I can almost count to 4. 🤫
8:10 is so good dude!
I'm still a beginner and your latest videos have been really helpful and easy to learn! You are an inspiration!
Really glad to hear that!
Oh Boy! That snare sounds so dope!
Thanks man
Thank you so much. when you have ADHD and play drums, its really hard to concentrate and focus. You help me a lot, because you brake the playing down to small steps and explain how everything works 🫶🏼
fun and informative, ty
You’re very welcome.
Philosophy is great advice . 👍 love it!!
Thanks Joe
I grew up listening to buddy rich, sandy Nelson. Years after they them. Was so influenced by them. See alot of there classic style in your approach. Only differs is buddy riches stick grip and style. Keep it simple stupid. You force elements, makes simple tasks to be a difficult task. True story.
You are a genius, and your presentation about drums lesson is too much naive and smooth that a 2 yr kid can also learn from it. I am very much impressed with you.
Thanks!
genius professor
Best drum content on utube)
Thanks bud
Recently picked up drums again after 15 years, and decided to take it more seriously this time. Your videos are gold, thanks for these basics videos!! Regarding fills, one thing i hear all the time that separates a decent drummer from a great drummer is this: does it stop grooving during a fill? I’ve never been the most chopsy drummer, but i feel it’s super important not to drop the groove. For example, listen to the snare fill going into the rideout of “Don’t You Forget About Me” by Simple Minds. It’s a multiple bar fill, with fun 32nd note accents all through it. It’s kind of chopsy… But it still grooves like crazy… in fact it somehow grooves *even harder* than the basic pattern! That’s a great drummer at work. Your feel is always great, and you keep the groove happening during your fills. People should take note of that in this lesson, too.
I was planning on commenting but as I read through them , it’s all been said.... excellent, musical, straightforward and useful..... thanks jeff..... I guess i did comment😂🥁🔥
Awesome
Thanks bud
Your tutorials are the best. Can you do one for kick drum next please? To play faster and better
Great back beat fill flam accent is nice touch
Gotta do it man.
@@JeffRandallDrumming stand on it lol
Might hit u up. Always can learn.
Salam dari Indonesia, terima kasih :)
nice vid. I hope you can also make a tutorial about improving double bass drumming.GOD bless.
Thanks bud! I don’t play double bass, sorry bout that.
Your video's are great man, is there a name for the fill at 8:10? I think I can figure out the sheet, but I'd rather read more into it
love your content. one thing i've never seen in YT video though is how to play the right fills for the song. it's all very well playing fills to a click, but how about playing them to a backing track/live band to demonstrate how a drum fill needs to interact with (a) what everyone else is playing/singing, and (b) the song as a whole?
That’s a great call. A much trickier topic to tackle. I’ll add it to the list!
Can you make a video showing beginners how to do the exact groove that you are playing before the fills at 7.47 ??!! I have had that groove in my head and limbs for at least 30 years! I know it's simple but just those syncopated ghost notes really do it for me haha
This guy is the beginners God, our savior
I watch I listen I don’t sound like you behind the kit. You’re a magical yet there are no smoke or mirrors.
Thank you Paul
Thank you sir
I have some questions. How often do you make a mistake and end up with the wrong sticking order? and how do you fix it so that it doesn't cause you more mistakes down the beat? Or in case that you don't ever make a mistake, how much did you practice this concept to get to that point?
Always remember to say hi to your old friends Pat Boone & Debbie Boone 🙂
Awesome! What are you doing with your left foot on the independence exercise? Up beats?
Playing quarter or eighth notes!
Hear! Hear!
I feel like he should play John in a Garfield movie and bust out a sick ass drum solo
Jeff, I really like your videos. Any particular reason for the flipped stick on your left? Just doing so for power and volume?
Thanks Jon. The flipped stick just gives me a fatter sound on the snare.
Subbing shit is fire 🔥✌🏽
Jeffy we miss you.
I’ll be back very soon!
Tbh the fills I find on CZcams aren't hard enough or cool sounding enough
What if you are open handed? I’m left handed, but right footed.
I feel I play pretty well. In an unhinged way 😂
You also have to be creative
What's up with the hair bro...lol
