      Bas Rutten used to feed his opponent low roundhouse kicks then feint one into a front kick to the guts. He could easily knock opponents down if they tried to check the roundhouse.

    I grew up practicing tae kwon do and boxing. What my father learned and then taught me and my siblings. The thing I like best about karate is that it is straight forward. Not a lot of fancy like most gung-fu and tkd. Over the years and thru many, many fights as a kid I learned to dispense with the fancy and just go. I thoroughly enjoy your teaching and explanation. Thank you.

    • @tommyakesson8858
      @tommyakesson8858 Před 4 lety +4

      Fancy stuff is... Its like dessert. Sure, you have it. But the main nutrienst should be more meat n potatoe style. Aka alot of "normal" punches (jabs, cross, hooks) with Some regular kicks (teeps, low kicks, body kicks) to vary things and add reach.
      THEN maybe head kicks and spinning attacks as bonuses.

      tkd is the most physically demanding style. Pure athleticism. Karate is less so and more about the techniques

    Jesse Enkamp's teaching approach is perfect and a great inspiration. It brings me back torwards karate fundamentals the way they are supposed to be taught. His teachings are so rich in style and strategy in which is a signal of fundamentals, and not swaying from the true karate way, or martial way.

    Nice video. A combo I like and use is the Andy Hug special which is low low fake back leg front kick switch to roundhouse. Gets them everytime. Also another one is outside low inside low roundhouse spinning hook kick.

    I'm glad to discover that the #10 combo is by a proud fighter from Québec, Canada, who was first a Kyokushin karateka, before going MMA : Georges St-Pierre. Thanks for all those suggestions, Jesse the Karate Nerd. I guess I'm not the only not very flexible guy capable to produce jodan kicks who appreciates those options you present.

      Jesse, I don't think I've disliked a single one of your videos in the several years you've posted them, but this is almost an exception. There distance in these drills is off- you start from too far away for a low kick to be the entry technique, and do exactly what you tell us not to at the beginning of the video by not being close enough when throwing it. Also, your uke needs to move as you attack. Standing in one place and dropping multiple leg kicks works okay in a Kyokushin tournament, but doesn't make sense when starting from that distance and moving in. Also, you should specify this is for low round kicks- you have a gedan yoko geri from hell, and we didn't get to see it in this video. 😉

    Hey I really enjoy your how to improve videos. I've been practicing kenpo and jiu-jitsu since I was 6 and very recently I was diagnosed with a softball sized brain tumor that took 4 brain surgeries to remove and even still I need radiation therapy sessions. In doing so I was living in the hospital for 4 months and learned that many things that i used to do would have been forgotten. Things like auto racing, playing the piano and martial arts are taking a very long time to relearn. Your how to vids are helping me regain my old self again and after watching this video I began recalling many more things. Thank you again. I really appreciate it.

    Thanks for the video, I like it because it is usefull for me as a Kyokushin karateka. Point to consider: if your low kick is blocked with the knee it will be very painful for you, so I tend not to use the low kick as the first attack in the combo when the opponent is in his good balance, strength, and reading capabilities. I like to feint with some strikes to the body and than follow/end with a low kick. I wonder why most combo's consist of 3 techniques, is there a reaon or explanation for? Is it to keep it simple because that works the best? I mean 4 or 5 attacks are less simple than 3. And I agree that for combo's there is one good rule: the simpler the better.

    Another thing I’d like to share is kicking with the ball of the foot which is done in Isshinryu. Low kicking with the ball of the foot to the chin, knee, lower foot and all the places you mentioned will more than likely maime a person or cripple them so they could not fight back. Isshinryu traditionally uses no kicks higher than the waist and for self defense it’s perfect. Thanks for sharing and helping people understand bunkai too along with the importance of Kata. Keep it going Jesse!
