Weirdly the only colour of these I've gotten to work properly through my airbrush was a metallic one. The rest were either too watery, or spider-webbed like crazy no matter how I thinned (even on recommended). Really couldn't get the hang of spraying them, which was a disappointment because they have some nice colour choices.
Thanks Glen I am converting my metal series of paints from Tamiya to AK and I am very satisfied with the AK results. Purchased from Metro of course. Could you do a follow up mask/tape removal test of the acrylic range?
Their probably good and all but one thing you should know is that Tamiya metal paints have real metalic pigments in them. Ak paints however dont have it as water based paint cant have metalic pigments in them because they would start to rust. Tamiya is alcohol or cellulosed based acrylics so they wont rust.
what needle/nozzle size did you used and with what pressure? I assume the paint was used on a lower air pressure than the primer as it was more heavily diluted.
@@laszloharsanyi8320 none at all. Quite surprising! I'm going to use them on a future video build and will give more detailed information at that point.
I tried one of their 3rd gen paints and I felt no difference from Vallejo, Humbrol acrylic and Ammo by mig. For some reason the color leather brown sprays horrible lines. Its not my airbrus but the paint is wierd even tho its thinned correctly etc.
Hi jnmodelkitreview6826, we'd love to see if we can help you here but will need some more information on exactly what is not behaving correctly. Give us a call on 03 9890 1144 and one of our modellers can have a chat to you and see if we can rectify the problem.
Hi there, we're sorry to hear about the issue which you're having! Primers are generally very thin as they are designed to help additional layers of paint to adhere to the model without covering up the details. Because AK interactives primer is acrylic it is not as durable as other surface primers such as lacquers and enamels so it is easy to scrape off. This is generally the case with all acrylic primers. To protect your model from scratches and scrapes you can use a varnish such as AK11237 and AK11239. We hope that helps!
@@MetroHobbiesAus I have been looking into the varnishes and have seen that they need to be thinned for airbrushing. What is the ratio of varnish to Ak11500 thinners? As their website only says to dilute it. Thanks in advance
@@bobsfunfog Just like spoons in the Matrix, there are no ratios : ) Thinning is only half of the equation, pressure is the other. There is no "correct ratio" of thinning. It is a matter of appropriate viscosity to air pressure. The thinner the paint the lower the pressure, and vice versa
When I saw "a closer look" I thought you would be giving info about the paint, relevant to model builders. Was disappointed to see just a showcase of a guy painting. Why not talk about the difference as compared to other brands and types? How is the texture and material qualities as compared to Tamiya round jar X/XF or Mr Color? Does it sand? Is it the same rubbery feel as Vallejo? Does it peel off like Vallejo or stick to the model like Mr Color?
Thank you for your feedback! You make some excellent points! We recently asked on our socials what people wanted to see on our CZcams channel so I will add your comments to the list and we will look to do a better comparison our our paint brands :)
Hi there, our modelling team would recommend lightly sanding the kit with 800+ sandpaper before applying the primer as it's an acrylic and not a lacquer. This should hopefully prevent the issue which you're having. We hope this helps!
@@MetroHobbiesAus Nice insight. I will try that. I attempted to use the black primer and it appeared to rub off. The Stynlrez / MIG One Shot primer is excellent.
Thanks a very helpful demo on AK, cheers Liam
I really like the boxed sets as they have some info and colour suggestions, really helpful. Thanks for showing these!

Do you have a proper moisture trap on your airbrush?
@@Zefurion1988 I do
Have had nothing but clogging problems with these paints. Guess I have to thin them a hell of a lot haha

I have issues with their airbrush primers chipping off the model super easily. Any type of weathering will do it.

I used the Iwata Neo with a .35 needle at 10psi for painting and 15psi for the primer. But in any case, do what's best for you. Experiment.
@@TheHambo4 Thnak you. Have you expereinced any tip-clogging? How smooth was the spray process?

@@TheHambo4 Thank you, that's good news.
I think you wont get tip drying until athleast 10 minutes since the thinner has a retarder medium in it witch slows down the drying time.

I've got that same primer and it doesnt behave like you are showing... unless the store sold me adulterated primer.

I used the grey paint and let it dry for over 48 hours and I can still scratch it off … what am I doing wrong

Can't find any good reviews of the 2nd gen AK paints or how they compare to 3rd gen.
Have a heap of 2nd air series box sets already.
