  • The ATEM Mini Pro ISO HDMI Live Stream Switcher from Blackmagic Design is a four-input live production switcher with an integrated control panel designed for multicamera live streaming up to HD video to the internet via Ethernet output. It features a USB output that allows you to record the program output as well as record the individual HDMI inputs to an external USB drive (not included). In addition to recording the program stream and individual inputs, the ATEM Mini Pro ISO also records the embedded audio and analog audio inputs, generating a DaVinci Resolve project file of your live stream. This allows you to take your live production into DaVinci Resolve to make tweaks or adjustments using the source material that is already on your USB drive.

    I checked out the codec used to create the MP4 ISO files. A bit disappointing they didn't use h265. For full HD, I don't think performance would be a problem. Anyway, turns out the audio is 32bit. Thats impressive indeed. No wonder it looks like there is loads of headroom in the audio meters.

    Having the project file come up in Resolve synced to the original files is great, but I was most impressed with being able to redo the cuts as if you were still live. THAT'S trick! Can you also insert new material ("Inserts") without losing this sync? If I were using the live production for limited content in an expanding documentary? Is that a viable (considered) workflow?

    • @1SourceVideo
      @1SourceVideo  Před 3 lety

      Once you have the project in resolve, you can do anything you want to it. You can change the shots, the timing of the cuts, add transitions, add new material, etc etc etc. You will not lose sync. The live portion of your doc will be the easiest part to put together. Definitely viable.

    ISO is NOT ISO! Please help us as a community. The ISO recordings are only Video ISOs!! The audio is totally corrupted, as all ISO recordings have Program mixed audio tracks. What you have to do is go into the Audio ISO folder to find the, let's say CAM 3 audio. The problem is is that there is no easy way to re-sync the ISO audio with the ISO video clip because as the audio track on the ISO video recording does not have the same waveform to referent to, because it is corrupted as a program audio mix. What's up with that? and can you tell us all how to fix this terrible oversight by Black Magic?

      If the MacBook is connected to the same network as the ATEM, then you should be able to access the ATEM software control without using the USB-C. @AlexanderBennettVideo Před 4 lety +1

      1SourceVideo thanks! I appreciate it. I did some testing. If you make premiere think the ISO files aren’t proxies, you can “reattach full resolution media”. This WOULD work if I could somehow edit the original GH5 files timecode. Although first you need to know what the exact start time of the clip should be by lining it up in a timeline and syncing it first anyway. At which point maybe it is faster to do it manually. But if you have a days shoot across four cameras it would be fast to just change metadata. I haven’t figured out an easy way to change the metadata on the file yet.

      According to the Blackmagic Design manual for the Atem Mini Pro Iso you ARE in fact able to stream to a platform like zoom or skype and also record all 4 cameras. The key is to make use of the Ethernet port. I'll quote page 9 of the manual under "Getting Started>Connect Your Computer".
      "When recording to disk using ATEM Mini Pro, the USB connector will be busy recording to a disk so it won’t be free to use as a webcam output. However the ATEM Mini Pro model also has live streaming direct via its Ethernet connection. If you want to use the USB connection to record to a disk you can use the Ethernet connection for streaming. You can even use the Ethernet for external control using ATEM Software Control. Please refer to the ‘additional features on ATEM Mini Pro’ section for more information."
      I've not tried this to verify but I've seen others in the community comment that this works for them.....fwiw
