Curtis Stone, you are BRILLIANT! I'm in love with your ideas! We're adding to our solar system and will have 15k in panels and 54k in LiFePo4 with a generator to carry us through the worst months (easily done in the next two weeks). Wish we had your greenhouse and design of that greenhouse! AMAZING! We did invest in a nice 10x15 glass greenhouse with good venting and we have a HUGE raised bed garden, lots of berry bushes, gravity fed spring water and a nice flock of dual breed chickens. I'm working on mini-tunnels for our raised beds to extend seasons. I learn many mad ideas from you. Thank you for all of your videos.

I am planning my greenhouse now; I picked up Russ Finch's design and working to improve upon it. I will likely end up doing a double hoop frame with a couple feet of air space between the two. to make that nice insulated layer. I am probably goung to pull some geo tubing like Russ did. I like the idea of a barn / garage on the north wall like yours.
Hey super project I like it very much. I might add that the generator is a super heat source. For every 1kW of electricity it produces 3kW of heat energy. You can use its systems to water for heating.

Ceres Greenhouses in Boulder Colorado just did an install of a tri-layer tensioned ETFE over one of their GAHT solar-geothermal battery systems. Might be worth checking out the cost/benefit analysis on it. Love the idea of setting 2 of your 3 banks offset to the 180 azimuth. Going to have to do some thinking on that for my like project. Thank you for blazing trail and creating both inspiration and confidence for others. 🙏

as a DIY solar guy, im impressed. love it. I built my 60kwh battery for about 4k and about 20 hours, 12k inverter for 2.5k, 4kw of used solar panels for 1k. all because a dead frog jammed my well pump contactor and freaked me out not having water.

Good stuff Curtis. Back in the day we were talking about low voltage DC for the off grid house (or backup on grid), using DC powered appliances, lighting and systems from RV's and motorhomes). The idea was to separate from the AC, a system like lighting, and have a dedicated replacement, or use full time. Lights and dedicated sockets can be wired into the house before the wall coverings go up. Lower draw extends battery time. You look set up to have a comfy winter. A year on that is. 😀

Since cca.1960, several researchers have investigated the idea of using winter's cold temperatures as the major energy source for producing ice apper to be practical and effective. Additionally, yours house is GREAT TESTED with several different systems described here, all of which meet their objectives. Every party - system has its own paricular charicterstics, advantages. Like the research who indicates that the colder the winter, the higher the system's cefficient of performance (COP)! As designers and engineers move toward computer - aid design with THIS MANUAL BUILDING BY YOURSELF ~ we can only value how "mind can input the calculated or measured optical properties"!

The story here is planned redundancy and flexibility in lifestyle. Our natiknal or state electrical grids need the same. All solar or wind won't cut it. We need fossil fuels for the forseeable future. The other thing is that one couple can modify their usage at times needed in part because they are motivated and rewarded for doing it. Forced buildouts. Of all electric homes means people lose that back up redundancy option. Greenhouse is so spectacular. Just envious!

3:42 You should also consider a redundancy for a cook.
I cut 4,000-pound rolls of Poly 3/16 inch thick 108 inch wide and 300-foot-long cut on a giant panel saw. Nice stuff made some nice greenhouses out of this and lasts much longer than the cheap twin wall or any other polycarbonate. Expensive though. but companies that cut this have big drops that have slight scratches that buff out that you can get a deal.

It would make some kind of sense to make a pond on the high side and when you "over" produce, it sends water up to a hydro battery of sorts. With a downhill mini generator system?

You should check out pit heat storage for your excess solar, basically a big pit full of water covered with thick sheets of insulating foam, we use it in denmark to store heat for the winter time, its surprisingly efficient.

We just received a quote for having solar installed on our house (Nova Scotia). I was shocked how much they wanted- it doesn't make any sense at the moment (for us). Also the power company is not really interested in receiving power- in fact they tried to CHARGE people last year for feeding back to the grid. We decided to invest in an outdoor furnace- hope it works out. Cheers PS We haven't had any sun for about 1 month now, it has been very grey and wet- but it is now that we need the most power
Doing off grid big time ! Obviously big dollars too. I Thought I went all in at 16000 W of panels 56 kW hours of Chevy Volt batteries at 18000 W of inverters but you got me beat !

Love this stuff. Have you done, or could you do a video on greenhouse pest control, especially aphids and whitefly? My GH is one year old and aphids are a problem.
I really like that greenhouse, it would even be better if it were hooked to house like the Earthships, your greenhouse looks better than the Earthships I think. I thought so too, but greenhouses have so much humidity that it can ruin things in your house like furniture over time. That’s why we separated it.

That is a nice setup. I can't help but think what if? What if you could collect power. Day or night. Available as long as the sun still works? I think it's possible but I don't know how to do it. It does make me think about old cars with positive ground electrical systems. It's astonishing how little we understand electricity.
Wishing you had built the garage larger will motivate you to build a large work shed later.

Think about: my GH is 630m2 and generate 160kWh/day as yearly average, but the insane think is that the solar panel are integrated with GH and full shunshine inside GH.

think i either didnt hear or understand if youre using the central heating water for showering as well, my uncle does that.
also i myself am gonna build in a spiral to the wood stove we have for cold water that goes into the electric boiler so that it pre heats the water a bit taking of some of the load and hopefully keeping some of the electric bill from that down.
as I'm in europe, we usually don't have washing machines with a hot water line, usually only cold water, think that central heating can help there too.
just some thoughts.

What’s your take on geothermal heat pumps for home heating and cooling?
Not worth the cost. I've even had people who install those admit to me that there is no economics to it.
If only you could see the juxtaposition of your videos with my others: economy crashing, elec going off, corruption, etc.....It's pretty biblical really, and you're the Ark! Bravo!

Good question. Nothing in particular, but mold usually grows on things that are organic. Down below it's plastic big-O piping and packed sand. So, not really a place mold would grow.
Ever thought about doing a Chinese greenhouse? I think you could make the back wall for one from rammed tires.

They do a lot of preserving for winter months. It’s surprising how much food you have to put up when you’re trying not to depend on grocery stores
Gave me an idea. Why are solar farms not built into greenhouse structures? I mean more money. Yet less cleaning and maintenance. Plus the heat generated most likely helps in conversion. Yet. Then you could do a small grow in the same facility???

Hi Curtis, I was curious where the air travels to that you pump into the ground for heating or into the poly roof. does it simply diffuse through the ground/leak out of the tarp?

What is your ideal consumption and how many panels are required to support just that?
I know we don't want to think about bad things happening and I know you have backups to keep the power running and a lot of the systems kick in automatically.
Curtis do you have someone that knows how to run everything like you do and if there is a problem with part of your system fails or goes down for some reason or another especially if you have had some sort of medical emergency that prevents you from being there and unable to give someone else instructions on how to run everything.
