Only 18% of the AZ is privatly owned and an option to homestead anyways. The rest is national parks, reservation, state land, BLM ect. We are one of the largest produsing agriculture states due to water from the colorado and warm winter growing season. Also property taxes are very low i have no idea where you get that. Its very clear you know nothing about arizona and are almost making this up.

I live in upstate four hours from NYC it’s a living hell ,please don’t move here we have To many people already , you will ruin the pure water , low crime , good schools , good medical care , Amish buggies slowing down traffic , I wasn’t a big believer in climate change, but the weather is improving in the winter so please stay in Florida or wherever you are ❤❤❤

I'm just outside of Tucson and about to harvest 300 potato plants and not having trouble growing food, just have to shade the beds with 40-50%, 24" raised beds filled with a concoction of amendments to local Tank's Green Stuff compost! Never grew food before moving to the desert, so now I'm looking for land on the eastern side of AZ at 4500' now, so I can grow easier!

just a quick question Curtis that i hope you would answer. i am not in the same climate as you are and so my goal is slightly different. here you show whats happening on a clear day with minus 4 degrees celsius oustide, and the inside is upwards 15 C. what would be the temperature at the end of the night when it is minus 4 outside? (that is the lowest temperature we usually get in the south of france). meaning what would the climate battery alone do, without the greenhouse effect of the sun:light of day. cheers!

I don't practice homesteading myself but I am fascinated by people trying to live off the land. I have watched dozens of homesteading channels and one person that impressed me the most is in the Arizona high desert his channel is called the "frugal off grid". The guy goes out with very little money in his van with very little experience and achieves easily what others with experience and tons of money have a hard time doing.

Northeast Apache County is cheap and connected to a huge aquifer. Many others aquifers demand deeper and deeper costly wells due to both the draught and overuse by some pivot farming practices.

Curtis, We live in NE New Mexico mountains, and there's beautiful farmland throughout Mora and San Miguel Counties here! It's weird through. Some properties are heavily sandy soil (like ours), and others have black, very fertile soil!? Great pastureland and many very productive farms. Good for raising livestock due to really nice pasturelands. Dry climate, but lots of snow in the winter, and June-July brings pretty consistant rain. Sunny most of the year. The high temps in the summer (up here near 8,000') are in the 80's, night lows in the 50's from June through early September. Many people do have greenhouses as well as outdoor gardens. But the valleys throughout Mora county look like Ireland all summer! Wind can be ferocious though! Aquifers run throughout these counties. We have a 60 gpm well of pristine water, but our well is 425' deep through granite all the way down! I'm from west of Cleveland, Ohio and have lived in this area of New Mexico for 25 years. I feel like I'm on vacation year-round here! Close to ski basins and inland lakes. Most folks don't realize this type of area exists in New Mexico.

Long time follower for your veg growing. I agree about homesteading in Arizona but I heard you mention most of Oregon. Have you heard about the Oregon Trail. In 1840’s there was quite a migration to the Willamette Valley. Covered Wagons and all. A lot of the French Canadian fur trappers retired there.

Not much about homesteading is legal in ny. State wide. Against the law to do about everything and what's not, the police are taught to make it and dont care about screwing you over it. With zero care. Cant drive past dark with out police interactions acting like they are at war with you. The more you go into the woods here, the worse the cops are. Its where they train them state terr@%#^. Most of them buy a home here and think they own everythi g and can control you. They think they can stop and id the whole state and do... try and drive a good old American pick up truck anywhere on ny thats not brand new and shiny. You get bothered by the blue line nonstop. It is very beautiful here , but what good is that if you cant enjoy it with out being bothered by some form of gov. Don't dare and do any target shooting. Don't dare let any gov worker see you with any kind of rifle on your property they come with a swat team even in the woods. Don't dare and try and defend yourself or land. Its illegal here. All over the state. Illegal to live with out running water there way, illegal to poo in the woods, illegal to take your pants down to poo or pee but they will make commercials telling you to poo in the woods. Go try it. The rangers will take you to jail for 3 different crimes. You need permit to go hiking in alot of public land now or to park , have to pay. Can't camp. Even teenagers now get botherd for camping, being boys. Don't dare and ride a 4 wheeler in front of them. Stright to jail and impounded 4 wheelers. Kids were talking about. Then theres the they will lock you up for j walking yes in the the mountains they will try to get your info for walking down a country road, try and turn around when you miss a turn. That means your driving drunk in ny. Even in the mountains. Still live here but dont go out much due to it. Never been a criminal and near 50 years old. They still make it hard to live here. Even in the woods. Lets not talk about the taxes. They say they have good schools well go to local court night, half the high school is there for crazy crap. Can't be a good place to raise a kid of they in court before leaving school. Ny use to be a great place to be. Those days are gone and will never come back with police and politicians that get on the news front and center and brag about not following the law and saying they dont care ... those old school farm towns where i came from are no more. Those same neighbors will look the other way as police make you a criminal in front of them than talk about how bad you must be cause the police came. Mean while talk to their friends about how corrupt and wrong these cops are. And yes for all the grammer police gonna trash me i am upstate ny schooled by according to Hudson valley everything has the best schools.. go figure.

I'm homesteading in Western NY towards Buffalo. Great value, all the older farmers are leaving or dying off and you can buy acres for little. Very beautiful, and deer run amok. Lots of water (creeks everywhere). Its number 1 for climate refugees. Fish everywhere. Drawbacks are high property taxes, $3,200 for $150,000 worth of property, i still have no idea how to get a rifle, and only one time of year to grow anything (last frost date is June 1).

I live in AZ and have what I think is a very successful garden growing fruits and veggies all year. However, it's not cheap. I agree with Stone; this is not a great homesteading state. Land, water, and electricity are very expensive. The soil is caliche or clay, which needs to be heavily amended. If you still manage to throw money at those problems and get past them, then say hi to all the critters you'll battle. You'll have birds, rats, groundhogs, javelinas, coyotes, deer, donkeys, etc., eating everything you grow.
