This song will always stand the test of time. One of the all time great songs from an era that will never be duplicated. I’m just glad I grew up in the 60’s and 70’s …Rock On 😁❤️✌️
Hanging in the play ground 12 13 14 years
old having a blast. Not a care in the world
Wish I could go back to 70s.
A great song from spring of 71 when some bands were combining rock with a big band sound. This was flawless!
The late, great Skip Prokop on drums! One of my very favorite songs in a decade where great songs seemed to come out every day!
Ever notice--it seems to be a tradition with rock groups that the drummer dies first?
@@georgecundari2 The really great drummers - Ginger Baker, Keith Moon, Mick Fleetwood and Skip - burn more energy on stage than anyone else, so they burn out faster! Though Ginger lived much longer than I thought he would, Skip lived to 73 and Mick's still alive, so maybe I'm full of crap!
I heard this on the radio today and I flipped !! I had to come home and find it !! Yay
This is a timeless song...
This is Just My Opinion ! I feel they should have hit the charts with many more hits !
This particular album kicks butt. As great as this song was and is, there are others on this album that I feel should have gotten air play.
WOW........been awhile since I heard that great song.
I was 12 years old when this came out and used to try to play it on my trombone. Lots of memories here. Peace!
Reminds me of the song vehicle by ides of march. Just that same feeling I get when listening to this. Brings back my childhood 🖤
You obviously have great taste in music Roads
I remember this when I was 5 years old. I thought it was Chicago.
I can definitely hear the old CTA influence
It was a great time to be a horn player. Chicago, BS&T, Chase, Ides of March, and these guys.
Lighthouse and Tower Of Power! ;)
Champlains Rockets
Absolutely agree! I just put a identical comments on a different song of theirs lol! Can’t beat early Chicago! Rock On!
Kick ass song!
Classic in every sense of the word
This song should have been number 1 at least 10 weeks
Such a classic.Reminds me of the band Chicago. They don't make music of this quality anymore.
More like BS&T or Tower of Power.
I was in high school in 1971 when this song came out and It dawn on me that music just wouldn't be this great in the future. The music the lyrics they just don't have this today. And young people that this music agree. I went to Vietnam the next year. '72.
A prized possession in my limited collection of radio airchecks is one from Wolfman Jack "hitting the post" on this song with: "Oh, the tide washes out and the tide washes in, but the LIGHTHOUSE stands firm!" So classic!!
I was 17 when this song became our anthem! Live in Bflo so we were lucky enough to hear all of the great Canadian music!
I lived in Detroit, Michigan, so in the 60[s & some of the 70's, we would listen to CKLW out of Canada, 800 on the AM dial. We also listened WKNR, KEENER 13, 1300on the AM dial again!
I Love This Song!! Oh Yea, after all these years, im 78 now and still remember back to 70s. Tks CZcams!!
Ditto and I'm 78 too!
When we were young, '70, '71, '72, etc., we'd listen to our transistor radios, & these great songs would play, little did we know that these songs would turn out to be classics. I'm 63 now, and still listening to Lighthouse this morning..🇨🇦🇨🇦
You're listening this
One FINE Morning.
You are so right James. I'm 66 now and I tell you, Canada produced some fine bands back then. Our transistor radios were constantly going back then. I know mine was. 🇨🇦
Right with ya! brother
James Whipple ~ Alright ❤

I vividly recall this monster of a hit as I had just come back from Nam & reentering Civilian Life in 71..
My Grampy was just destroyed by the war, he was never the same when he got back, it was so sad. I hope you have had a good life, salute from Canada.
@@daveywaite25 Thank You for your kind words.. MANY Folks were never the same after this..
I was born in June of 69' and this is my favorite era of pop music 🎵!!
My favorite all time song.
Who is expecting KSHE 95 (St. Louis) to give the news after hearing the guitar riff intro of this glorious song? They used it at KSHE to deliver the news for years.
Great song . Great time to be alive
POWER HORNS at their very BEST!
Wow.... that rocked even more than I remember it!!!... I guess it's because I appreciate great musicians more now
I love this !!!! It took FOREVER to get the name of this song.
One of my favourite songs of all time. Still sounds absolutely amazing.
Wow, this song kicks ass...
Awesome, Awesome song. I always loved when it came on the local Top-40 station in High School. Looked for it for years until finding it on a CD collection in the 90's. Best day of my life.
In 1971, Lighthouse had this one hit and it was great!
Thanks Mike. This song was #1 in Albany, N.Y. just before my high school graduation in 1971. Just heard it again today after many years of not hearing it the radio and can't stop playing it. Fantastic song well ahead of its time and the piano piece is awesome.
A Great Tune from a Band in a Great Era for Music... The 1970's were an awesome time for being young with a radio.
You got that right
@Karl M I can' agree with you more!
LOVE this song! Really enjoyed the flip-side too; "sittin' stoned alone in my backyard, wondering why life's gotta be so hard..." F Billboard, forever a Number ONE in my book.
Sunny Days is the song you're referring to :) Another great one of theirs.
This should have been a top 5 smash!
Have you listened to another Lighthouse Hit - Pretty Lady..? Same Energy
Jim cook, thanks for the response on this great band and their wonderful music. I will check out all their songs and enjoy them like if I was still in the 70s when all the music was the best.
@@willyschmitt5665 : their whole catalogue is GREAT; cover of "A Day In The Life", JAWDROPPING - Skip's 90's revival, has some WORTHY songs on it, too.....
How well a record does on the charts depends on what other records were also on the charts.
When Snuff Garrett was producing Gary Lewis and The Playboys, he made sure that no records by The Beatles were on the charts before releasing numerous hits.
That tactic worked, which is why we still remember such classis as This Diamond Ring, Sure Gonna Miss Her, Green Grass, Everybody Loves a Clown, and Jill.
I heard this today as a bumper in a sports talk show...remember hearing this song as a kid..brought great memories..thanks for posting this !🙂
Still listen to this song thanks again guys ❤️ good times 🙂
Great band and this brings back tons of memories - as others have noted - Chicago, Ides of March, Chase, Blood, Sweat & Tears - the days when Top Hits were complex and played by real musicians!
Yes I agree love all those bands
Yeah, there was a time, a short time but rock had a "Big band" sound. Then came the "country: rock sound. The one thing about rock is it's always changed its' sound. I still don't know where rap came from?
@@kenparnell4297 : arguably, first TRUE expression of it was The Last Poets (although NO question James Brown played a big part in synthesizing it) - really CAN'T stomach much of the genre (SAD commentary that its most memorable melody, was
appropriated from Stevie Wonder, "Pastime / Gangsta's Paradise".....)
@Karl M periodically sample today's stuff, not for me, anyway-
Amo essa música!❤️🌻👍🏻👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

This song came out when I was 11 and represents the general feel of music I listened to as an early teen. I have not heard Lighthouse in at least 10 years. This song brings me back a long way in time. I especially like this style of music as it is played "straight".... no fancy production tricks or effects. Just a solid band belting out a great tune....

11 and living in Santa Cruz
True Fact Sir !!!
67 y.o. and still luvin it
A great song that gives you a feeling of freedom!!!
One of my favorite morning songs in 71! And Chicago I Just Wanna be Free
There's certainly a Chicago vibe.across the board with these guys.
What a great record...really captures the 'vibe' from the era of horn-driven rockers. Takes me back to 'the day' when A.M. radio still ruled, but not for long. Still think this should have been a much bigger hit outside Canada, but the business is hard to understand sometimes, I suppose. Well done, at any rate...
They had a sound like "Chigago" back in the day this had some radio play (rare). Jazzy, full of orchestration, even some violins thrown in, listen closely. 13 Members and they gave it their all. That is is what I loved about this group. Ending with guitars, horns, tamborines, drums to great ending climax. Good year 71' at 16 yrs. old this was powerful really got you going.
Great post
Peace 2 ya
Beautiful instrumental back up. A tru classic. And it will always be in my auric field since I was in High school at that time and I really get to appreciate this music now more than ever!
Right on!
Enjoy and Blessings to all this Healing year of 2022!!!!!!!!!!!!!???
🌠👍🌠👍
Love this song so much. That piano solo is killer.
Yes!
The single edit robbed us of the piano solo.
! Canción q levanta el espíritu!!
Unreal, this great sounding oldie only made it to #24 on Billboard ? They were robbed - easily 20 spots higher OR more !!
+djjim01 Agreed. GREAT tune.
It sounds like a jet engine on afterburner and rawks like a house on fire. I have heard this song since day 1 and have always loved it.
Maybe due to the lyrics sounding like a drug trip prevented more airplay in the states
Disc jockeys in the states thought that there were drug references in the song that had an effect on the airplay on the song.
@@silasmarner7586 : an absolute FAVORITE of mine for 20 years to sing at karaoke - Bob McBride's reading, is INCOMPARABLE.....
This is one of the gems of rock and roll.
They sound like Chicago and Blood Sweat and Tears.
I was just thinking this group reminded me of BS&Tears! My other favorite group!
great band, great tune...no ifs, ands or buts. Love it.
one fine SONG!!
What a great mix of all instruments in this song but the horns make it awesome. Easily one of my favorite songs from the 1970's and another example as to how good music was in that era. Upbeat with a positive, feel good message along with being a great tune. Wish this kind of music would somehow come back.
The best music EVER. We knew even then that it couldn't be any better
Great song from a fantastic, kick-ass concert band. Watched them live several times in the early 1970s and always impressed.
HOWARD SHORE on SAX??!!? Damn! Holy shit! Anchorage Alaska, 1971... I would've been 7 years old, pulling this off of the airwaves, recording it to reel-to-reel... amazed at the sounds. AM radio, no less. Only thought of looking it up now, 42 years later. I had no clue Howard Shore was in this band. One of the most accomplished sound artists out there. You learn something new every day.
This song kicked me in the head the first time I heard it. Fantastic!!! Thanks for sharing.
Fantastic band. reminds me of whoever it was that sang "Im your Vehicle babayyy"
Sounds a lot like Chicago. Great tune.
Great piece of music!
THAT SOUND IS GONE SADLY FOREVER WHAT A GREAT SONG NEVER AGAIN MAYBE WE COULD HOPE
Wow! I finally found the original and I mean the originally version of this song.
Most version are missing many of intro parts which are very important. I guess the song was edited by former commercial airtime play when the radio stations had to trim to allow more room for the commercials.
Thank you so very much.
A GREAT SONG, Love the horns.
I thought for a moment it was Chicago when I heard it on the radio. Great oldie for sure!!!
+June Schlueter Same powerful use of multi-horns section like Chicago.
You should have seen it performed along with one of the school marching bands, at the Super Bowl, way back the. It was awesome!
@@djjim01 also the guitar work.
Love this song ❤️💙❤️😘
An oldie but goodie.
The oldies ARE the goodies
Saw them live 5 or 6 time....they always played this for their encore.....and rocked the house. Witnessing the power of this amazing Canadian Supergroup live was epic.
Great song !!
One fine tune!
My step Dad Peter Pantaluk played trumpet in this band. He still plays his trumpet today.
If you assemble a "Best 50 songs of the '70's", it's hard to keep this tune off the list. Yet it never charted higher than #24? That is SO wrong! This is everything great rock n roll should be, and then some
Probably too 'jazzy' for more traditional rockers.
I hear ya
@@piercehawke8021 It's sometimes labeled jazz-rock, with brass and woodwinds, like Blood, Sweat and Tears, Chicago and Tower Of Power
@@donaldfewell8908 And Incognito can live under that descriptor as well.
@@piercehawke8021 Thanks!
Beautiful piece of music
And of course, after Lighthouse, Howard Shore went on to win some Grammies,Genies, Golden Globes and a few Academy awards for Lord of the Rings and other stuff.
Wow thanks for the trivia
Yea great jam!!! Lots of Horns. Just a fun, feel, good driving song.
Heard this song for the 1st time in Nov of 1972. I was living and working in Houston. Great sound\ song
This was actually one of the first albums I bought. Loved this song and it sounded great again just now!!
awesome song, sound quality doesn't hurt either.
HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!
I think if Lighthouse had had the resources and a bank of hits like this one, they would have rivaled Chicago. Great sound. full, majestic, talent out the butt. Love'em!!
What A Great Tune! I love the Musical Arrangement!!!
Love the guitar entro!
Great Song!
I'm amazed this wasn't a top 10 placer b/c it's got a GREAT "hook" and that's generally an indication of a big hit...summer of '71 lots of great horn dominated bands BS&T, Chicago, Chase, Lighthouse-even the Grass Roots...
Love this song
Always awesome; continues on!!
this is the best mix... right off the lp
One of my many favorite on my playlist thanks guyd good times

Thanks, Mike for posting..... You can't imagine how many people really enjoy this music. I grew up with it, and for me it brings me back to a great time in my life. That, and Lighthouse just had a great sound - and they played some great concerts here in Toronto ! Keep well, and keep 'em coming !

You are really, really good sir! The backdrops are unique!♡♡
Great Canadian band I lived a few blocks fromSkip Prokop drummer an dfounder of Lighthouse previously he was inThe paupers another Toronto band
I remember this song from Monta Vista High 1970-71 school during lunch time they played music over the P. A system . Never forget it made me smile makes smile now.
I see the Rare Earth 45 jacket on the shelf for "I Just Want to Celebrate" - haha..used to own that one too !
Thank God for the Stanton 500; we could have never made it without it! Still in school when this band hit; often confused with Chicago, BS&T, Chase or Ides of March. Might have done better with a consistent record deal down here. About then, the only Canadians hitting the US charts regularly were Anne Murray and Gordon Lightfoot. This and "Pretty Lady" both made my Oldies playlists.
As always...thanks so much Music Mike. Imagine a little Aussi kid travelling through eastern Canada with his Mum and Sister on a Greyhound bus....radio is on, and this comes up. Wow ...what memories. 1972. This band...Chicago...Blood Sweat and Tears, Ides of March. What an era....what great sounds for a young boys ears...life-changing. So Grateful Mike !
Still listen to this song thanks guys good times
I have 2 copies of the 1971 LP. 🤗♥️
Hey where are you now 😂 love this song
