UNBELIEVABLE. Really he’s underrated for the sole fact that he’s not American or “Hollywood”. He’s literally one of the best actors I’ve ever seen in my life. And he’s practically a baby. STUNNING. Edvin the actor that you are.

when Arcade started playing i started breaking down. i was like “WHY?!? NO PLEASE NO”. and having us wait a week for the finale was BRUTAL. now every time i listen to that song it hits different. get ready for episode 6
I'm sorry, they absolutely deserved to hear all that, but they're the adults and just completely neglects and ignores the only son they have left... As sad as it is, Simon's gotta do what's best for him, seeing how miserable the life as a royal can be he knew he couldn't be part of it 💔
I feel for both of them so much. I don’t blame Simon for doing what is right for him, but I feel so horrible for Wille who is stuck in that situation. For him he feels like he doesn’t have a choice and he feels like Simon is the only person that is really there for him so it’s just a storm of horrible all around.
@@belpop Babies are going through it! I love that this show isn't about the whole only one can be right/wrong or painting anyone a villain cause when they fight or break ups. They are both just trying their best, but it's all too much for two teenagers! Even the "villains" like Vincent and August have some layers

@@GirlLovesFairytale I feel like it wasn't until that moment he fully realized how neglected and repressed Wilhelm was/is and Simon himself is raised in a household where he's allowed and encouraged to speak his mind and make up his own opinions, saw the full extent of how miserable life would be for them both, and was like: No, this cannot be my life EVER and ended it. It's sad that he had to see it, but I'm afraid he would've stayed with him still thinking they'll be able to change things from the inside(like when they discussed the charity options)

They waited a week for the last episode so we could all get a proper visit in with our therapists.
This made me laugh. In reality, I suspect that they waited a week so that people would be able to watch up to the finale before anyone could spoil the ending of the show.
So I guess I did it right by waiting that week to skip the waiting and binge it as it was way my plan in the first place… 😅🎉
People have every right to leave a relationship whenever. There isnt a 'perfect timing'. If Willie couldnt wait for Simon to leave before confronting his parents, then Simon had every right not to wait to break things off with him.
Love Willie but he treated Simon poorly.
Stop putting a lot of emotional baggage on a 16 year old. Linda is right, love shouldnt be that difficult.
Simon has witnessed that the Wilhelm he loves has gradually become a representative, a symbol of monarchy, which he opposes. This transformation of Wille must’ve been very painful for him and he even finds himself is slowly being dragged into the whole system he hates,so that he decides to let go.
I think it's more personal than that, even. He sees he can't live his life freely, can't create his art freely, THEN sees that Wille is taking the same feelings out on HIM. He realizes there is no way this wouldn't end badly if he kept on, even though he clearly also knows the good parts of this person who just terrified him.
@@georgeweatherford1027 Agreed. I think those are the proofs that Simon is being dragged into the whole system. Not only terrified by Wille but also lost a part of himself. But I do think that Lisa is trying to use this as a warning of the fact that the monarchy can do real harm to people and people’s relationship.
Edvin Ryding As Wilhelm just came at par levels with some phenomenal actors of Hollywood 🔥🔥🔥 He just hit it out of the STADIUM with this performance
Honestly I was cheering while he was shouting at his parents. They were horrible parents for 3 seasons and they needed to hear that
One of the things that makes the show so brilliant is the fact that you absolutely cheer your ass off for everything that Wille says because it needed to be said, and he was put into this position where he was just ready to explode and then he did. And at the same time, you also know that Kristina and Ludvig, while not having been good parents to Wille, are also struggling and certainly not evil. As the younger sister who wasn’t “the favorite” I felt that sooo much.

Seriously incredible. He is one of the best actors I’ve EVER seen, hands down. And he was only 19-20 when he filmed this like WHAT
To be honest, I *sort of* understand where Wilhelm’s coming from during the music room argument. He doesn’t know how to cope with the fact that Erik wasn’t the perfect person he’d thought he was (plus the additional question of “would Erik have even liked me?”), so he (likely unconsciously) projected his feelings onto Simon so he had somewhere to direct his frustration at those feelings (not saying this was healthy, good or fair), and I wonder if Simon indirectly comparing Erik to Sara was just the little thing that made it too real and tipped Wilhelm over the edge?
Either way, a lot of Wilhelm’s behaviour this season had me thinking of a specific quote “Your mental health is not your fault, but it is your responsibility”. It’s not Wilhelm’s *fault* that he feels terrible about all of the terrible things that are happening in his life, but it is his *responsibility* to not treat the people around him (mainly Simon) badly because of it.
I think the problem is that he’s also in a position where he feels another responsibility beyond “his own mental health”. The responsibility of being Crown prince, and having this weight on him. And what’s really sad is that while Simon has the choice, Wille doesn’t. Or at least he feels like he doesn’t. Imagine being 17 and knowing that within a year you might need to “rule” an entire country before barely knowing who you are yourself. I’m not saying it’s EASIER for Simon bc clearly his heart is breaking. But he also has the support from family/friends AND the freedom to make his own decisions for what is right for him, where Wille feels like he CAN’T. I think the Erik versus Sara thing is interesting because for Wille, he sees that it’s clear that Sara was not trying to do harm even if she did. But Erik doing what he did was very clearly going to hurt other people and he seemingly relished in it. Or was at least okay with it. And unlike Simon, who has a chance to reconcile with Sara and understand her point of view more, Wille will never get that chance. Total projection but I GET it.

I think the news that Erik participated in that initiation hit Wille so hard, because he felt like his brother was the only person in the world that loved him unconditionally and now he has to deal with the idea that his brother might not have accepted him because of his sexuality. And I think that just made him feel the most alone he's ever felt. And because he's not from a family that discusses their feelings he does what he always does and he bottles it up. But that can only go on for so long and everything just explodes.. And all I want is to give that boy a hug!

My partner and I have a simple birthday tradition, he gets cheap greasy take away pizza, a nice bottle of red wine and an ice cream cake, I have champagne and macarons. We stayed the tradition when we were saving up to move overseas and decided not to spend money on presents while we were saving and we've just kept it going, 16 years strong!

Just love you guys and your reactions! Wille totally needed to say all that to his parents. It’s been building up to that. They are just not there for him at all. Edvin’s acting in this is amazing. Also extra sad for Wille when Simon breaks up with him, when really Wille needed to be hugged. I do get why Simon he broke up with him, it was just all too much for Simon, but it was still heartbreaking and then that song just……😭💔
About the talk about siblings making mistakes, what hurt wille the most is that he will never be able to come to a closure with his brother but Simon would have the chance to make peace with Sara. Thats why he lost it at that conversstion. BTW, hope someone understands my broken english.
YESSSS. I think it’s two things. It’s the fact that what Sara did, while incredibly hurtful and harmful, also was not her purposefully going out of her way to hurt other people whereas what Erik did he knew would be hurtful to people. But on top of that, it’s the fact that Simon has the ability to understand and reconcile and Wille doesn’t. He’s stuck wondering if the person he loved and looked up to most in the entire world would support him and still love him if he knew who Wille really was. No matter Sara’s fuckup, she has always loved Simon and never judged him for who he is in any way. She just made some bad decisions because she fell in love with August.

I sobbed for over a hour after watching. I was just gutted. Also was absolutely devastated that I had to wait a week for the finale.
I am very glad that I did not binge watch the first five episodes the day they came out but spread them out over enough time that when I watched this episode the sixth episode was already available. I know it was torturous for a lot of people to have to wait a whole week for the ending.
I did the same and I’m SO glad I did! I watched episode 1-4 more times before the 5th, thankfully the day before episode 6 came out.
I'm so glad they went this direction. I always felt like this was the more realistic path for Simon. I always felt like Wille couldn't have the crown and Simon because to do so would cause Simon to sacrifice himself. I absolutely ripped my heart out though.
In each of the 3 seasons, a sandwich appeared in the 5th episode. Likewise, Simon wore the same "pyjama" pants in S2 Ep5 - coincidence? Unlikely with a series like Young Royals :D
Omar didn’t know what was coming with that outburst. Edvin improv-ed a lot of it. So that Look on his face is a genuine reaction.
Omar as an actor amazes me a lot. Seeing it all unprepared, reacting accordingly and still staying in character
I fully get why Simon did it and everything, but the only thing I kept thinking about is 'DAMN that's a really shitty birthday'
Truly, to say seeing Wilhelm yelling at his parents made me feel uncomfortable would be an understatement. I could practically *feel* Simon’s terror as he watched Wilhelm yelling at them before throwing the presents everywhere. I could literally feel his fear as he sat there knowing there was nothing he could do to make it better and the only way to “survive” the situation was to essentially try and make himself invisible.
*Warning: talk of controversial subtext that lots of people deny exists*
Honestly though, it probably breaks my heart even more because of the fact that the subtext surrounding Simon’s past shows that he’s been through a lot, lots of which he blames himself for (I seriously want to hug this kid after everything he’s been through), and I’ve noticed that his past clearly affects his present. He’s a child that’s grown up around abuse (both with Micke and a guy who only exists in the subtext who had the *audacity* to gr0om his 13-14.5yr old student into a “romantic”/s3xual relationship (istg, it is *on sight* when it comes to that man, the rage I feel towards him after what he did to Simon is insane (but deserved).)), and it’s been kinda normalised for him, so it makes sense that he’s willing to tolerate much more from Wilhelm that anybody should ever have to.
I agree with this, except for the fact that Wille throwing the presents around was Edvin’s choice and it was improvised. It’s not that it takes away from Simon’s discomfort and fear, but Omar was himself very shocked in that moment.

Yeah, Wilhelm has a tendency to project his feelings onto others, and not really express his thoughts as HIS...Which is what he does with Simon here. He's in such a bad headspace that he doesn't really think properly. He's also strugling with his parents not really being parents to him, and constantly comparing him to Erik. That's a large part of the reason he breaks down - he thought Erik was perfect and it turns out he wasn't. But everyone else continues saying he was, especially their parents, and making Wille feel like shit for NOT being perfect, even if they don't actually mean too.
So Wilhelm was totally in the right for going off at them, and honestly I would've exploded way earlier. I know they're struggling, and it's awful for them, but even when Erik was alive they were shitty parents, especially to their second son. They've constantly not listened to Wille, not taken him seriously, not supported him. They've (mainly his mum) moulded him into what THEY want him to be, what is acceptable for him to be, and never once actively tried to care for and support Wille as a parent.
Sorry for the long comment, I just have a lot of feelings about Wille and his parents and yeah... Episode 6 is a ride you are NOT ready for!
Also with Simon and Wilhelm...Simon has seen the whole time how the monarchy destroys Wille. And everytime Wille tries to get away he's pulled back. And now Simon is experienncing it all for himself he knows it's awful, and he's struggling with it. His look of shock/fear is that, at least in my mind, is that he's scared FOR Wille. He's scared about what's happening to Wille, what the monarchy is making him into. And you're right, it's not good for them to be together atm. Both Simon and Wille are struggling, and both need help and support. Unfortunately, Wille doesn't have very much from his own parents.
Also, I get what you were saying in regards to the confrontation, but Wille is 17. He's a grieving, depressed, anxious, stressed 17 year old. He's gonna 'go too far' (I don't think he did personally) in a moment like that. And honestly, both his parents needed the reality check. Love your reactions as always though!
@@beccajane209 this is so well said. And I do not judge Wille. And I don’t judge Simon for feeling the need to pull away. I just think it’s a really fucked up situation. Wille is in many ways dependent on Simon because he feels so alone in his situation and Simon is the one person that he feels he can be completely vulnerable with and it’s so difficult for Simon to have that pressure on him. But at the same time, it’s so hard for Wille because he feels he does not have that choice. He feels like he cannot do anything else so he projects all of this stuff onto the one person that he loves who is there for him. It is so difficult and it is so sad and I just feel so much for both of them in the situation.
@@belpop i completely agree with you. I don't judge either of them. No one is a villain here. They're two young boys stuck in such an awful situation and trying to support each other, but they both need more support than just each other. They've both got issues and trauma that needs to be worked through, and they are both the victims of an awful situation. But that's what makes them so interesting to watch!

6:57 exactly! Wilhelm and Simon are both the younger siblings. And they both have to come to terms with their older sibling not being the person they thought they were.
As someone who's experienced parental neglect and trauma, I can totally relate to Wilhelms outburst. Such an outburst comes after so much of asking for the attention and love you need. Playing the victim and making your children do what you want them to and ignoring their pain can cause significant trauma and anger. 😢

Nick from Heartstopper very politely states to his father why he is a disappointment. Wille burns the palace down. Hahaha. In all fairness, Nick has Liv Coleman. Wille’s parents are a masterclass of what not to do when your kid comes out. I do understand they lost their son so it makes sense they are not doing their best, but yeah…. It is funny to compare the two.

The best episode of all 3 seasons as the full consequences of how the elite institutions have deformed those inside them are laid bare. They’re not just prisons but torture chambers. The brilliance of the show is that we are lured in by the gay representation angle but the wider message is about people submitting themselves to misery for status - Can they escape?

Poor Wille just gets the worst of all worlds. Ignored by his parents and having the weight of the entire monarchy put on his shoulders at 17. Then being constantly reminded how "perfect" Erik was, just after learning he participated in something horrific, which may also imply Erik could have been homophobic against Wille himself. Then dumped by his boyfriend on his birthday. I really don't blame Simon for walking away, though. Wille abandoned Simon in the palace twice in the span of an hour, and totally lost his shit in a violent outburst. That's really too much to ask for a teenage romance to withstand.
First of all love your beard. Seccond of all welcome to my own hell that was created cause they did arcade at the end. They also made a video with Duncan Laurence and it is the best. Ducan Laurance is the reason I am proud I am a dutchie and watch eurovision.

Amazing reaction and loved the rainbow beard!!! I strongly believe that Willie had the right to express his feelings about the negligence and the consequences of his parents’ actions. However his timing was not the best with Simone being there. While Simone respected his honesty, he didn’t like the person Willie became in that moment. He knew that the pressure of the monarchy had changed Willie, and it was changing him as well. Love is never easy, but it should never get to the point where neither of them are unhappy. This scene kind of reminds me of Shrek 2, when he and Fiona argue about the sacrifices they made to be happy. And this is exactly what both of them need to realize, otherwise they shouldn’t be together which is completely bittersweet. 🧑🏻🦱🧑🏻🦰👑🇸🇪🏳️🌈💔

I was so not okay with Simon doing that at that time. I understand the decision to end the relationship, but at such a pivotal moment with Wille’s birthday and finally confronting his anger with his parents, he needed to be supportive and comforting to Wille. The break up could have waited a day. :(

I am so angry with Wille's parents! Why can't they stop mourning the son they lost for one second and be there for the one that is in front of them? This is their fault! All of it. Wille needs serious therapy

In ep 3, in wille's dorm , simon ask wille if he could forget erik if he betrayed him and wille says erik would never do something like that, and now that he start realizing that erik wasn't as "perfect" as he thought, he can't wrap his mind around the fact that maybe he would have done that to him. 😕
After erik died, he thought he needed to be a "perfect" prince too following his brother exemple, but now he realized that maybe he doesn't know his brother that well, that he wasn't as "perfect" as he saw him and maybe he wasn't such a great exemple after all. that is a big change in someone's life when your role model turns out to be way different than the way you see them.
You're absolutely rien about the nail polish, and also, purple is simon/love color in this show.

While completely getting where Simon is coming from at the end of the episode, I think his timing is rather miserable. He sees the boy he loves devastated and emotionally exhausted already and takes this as the best moment to break up... Not sure what to make of this.
Simon just did what he felt he had to do regardless of the timing, I think staying up with Wille and then breaking up in the morning would be even worse

I would love to see you watch The Newsreader, Australian series about news anchors in the 80s, and without spoiling it it does have strong queer representation and story throughout its 2 seasons.

Wille Just throw all seasons 1 and 2 lonelyness and pain over his parents. I think Simon should understand that bc even him left wille alone for a while when he was in such painful situation. Simon left wille bc he didnt tell that was him in the leaked video but we see in season 3 what'd happen if he did it in season 1.
I agree that even though I do not at all judge or blame Simon, it’s like he wanted something that he wasn’t really prepared for and when he got what he thought he wanted, he realized he didn’t want it anymore, but Wille never had that choice.
It is such a difficult situation because I 100% understand pulling away and realizing this isn’t good for you or good for the other person so I do not blame Simon. Which is beautiful and good, but it’s also something that Wille does not have. Simon, even though he is not privileged and not rich, has the sort of freedom that Wille does not have.

@@belpopyesss! Simon was aleays free. Wille, a 16 YO would have tô overcome so much and deal with huge consequences that could affect all the country, so it was só much hard for him to achieve his freedom.
Simon never wanted Wille to tell anyone it was him in the video. He never wanted Wille to come out. He wanted Wille to not say anything about the video like they agreed. And Wille went ahead and made a statement anyway without talking to him first. So Simon never trusted him for lying and also for leaving him alone with the fallout from the video - Wille always did things on his own terms. He told Wille that he should take his time to figure out what he wants. And that he would respect that. But he never asked Wille to out himself by saying it was him in the video.
