    Therapist was definitely not having a go at Wille's sexuality, he was telling him he shouldn't feel forced/obliged to live a life he hasn't chosen just to satisfy other people's expectations.
    Also when Wille was sick, just imagine how he felt in that moment. He's been totally alone since Christmas. He lost his brother, was betrayed by his cousin, betrayed by his mum who then heaps pressure on him, nearly blew it with Felice, and Simon, the one person who has shown him love since Erik died, the one person he can be 100% himself with, just put himself first, leaving Wille looking at a lifetime of loneliness and being someone he isn't. Neither of them know, in those last moments of this episode, where it's all going to end, so no wonder they nearly ate one another. The acting in this episode was outstanding.

      Us minorities are very prone to seeing other people's words as an attack on us because of how often it would happen in the past. But in the days where people are becoming more accepting, we shouldn't jump to demonize actions and statements without thinking and listening to them thoroughly. I find that it's becoming a consistent problem that we see the worst in people first, and we need to curb that or risk alienating people who are actually on our side.

      I definitely agree that Boris, the school therapist, is definitely not commenting on Wille’s sexuality because that’s not the actual issue. Wille is having trouble with feeling isolated because he is set apart from others as Sweden’s crown prince, and it’s all that royal court stuff which is bugging Wilhelm when he’s upset about “how hard can it all be” to cut ribbons and shake hands, etc. Plus, Nils already said that the therapist is helpful and LGBT certified. When they talk about Boris not understanding their situation, Nils means the pressures of upper class life, not closeted homosexuality. Boris’ words may single handedly break the monarchy if these therapy sessions continue. ;-)

    I think the main issue for Wille is the lack of proper care and attention he receives. Even after going through a fighting scandal, losing his brother, being thrust into a new role as Crown Prince, being betrayed by a close family member he was told he could trust, being publically outed, being forced into lying about it, and losing the trust of the one he loves because of that, he isn't actually offered therapy or support by the Queen until he starts actively threatening the court and making life difficult for her. And even when she does realise he needs help, she doesn't offer him extra guidance of respite, she continues to force him to take on this role against will. And at the end of the day, he's only sixteen. He needs that support, and the fact he is not getting it means he can't sort his thoughts out, and that means he keeps handling things less-than ideally. What he needs is for someone to help him sort his relationship with Simon out, and help him through his grief before he has to take on these new responsibilities.
    Extra edit: I also think you guys misunderstood the point of the therapist. I think he was trying to say that Wille could choose how he wants to live as the Prince - whether to abdicate, continue to live as the Prince and lie, or tell the truth and live as a more honest Prince. Not that he could choose his sexuality.
    I also recommend watching this interview with the actors when you have finished as it is a great dissection of the situation: czcams.com/video/ufoZ3mz5MRo/video.html

  • @wordstowordlessthings
    @wordstowordlessthings Před rokem +28

    I think the betrayal from Simon's point of view was always Wille not being honest with him specifically and everything being on his terms. So whether it was a good time or not, Wille realized the only way he could show Simon he was different was by telling him the truth, giving him the choice for real, and not running away from that discomfort.

  • @girl_in_red881
    @girl_in_red881 Před rokem +27

    One thing that kinda drove me insane about this is that you guys said Wille was being toxic when he went to Simons house and told him that they can be together if he doesn’t report August, because I don’t think that’s what was happening. I think Wille was telling Simon everything, all of the options and all of the information, pairing that with “I would give up the crown for you,” which to me gives the idea that he wants Simon to be able to choose for himself, but also wants him to have all the information before making that choice, and when Simon says he’s going to the police anyways, Wille is upset, but not at Simon, just at the situation, and he respects Simons choice.

    • @danielamorais993
      @danielamorais993 Před 4 měsíci

      Plus Simon said that Will should try tô say his feelings. When Willy sees August, he decided to tell Simon. If he was toxic, he would try to convince Simon to not go to police.

    I don’t think the therapist was talking about Wilhelms sexuality. To me it was about that it wasn’t Wilhelms choice to be born as a prince, but that he can choose how he wants to live his life. It’s his life and he should be happy with it and not just have to live up to peoples expectations. Can’t wait for your reaction to the next episode. 😊 Excited for season 3. It‘ll be the final season.

  • @UliFandoms

    Wille didn't force Simon at all whether he should go to the police or not! He just wanted to show Simon his point of view(being the future king, the state politics, August's role in all of that) - and we can clearly see that Simon finally took a new perspective on the things and Wille's position.
    And when Simon decides to go to the police, Wille isn't mad at Simon. He is just soo overwhelmed with now being faced with his planned out future as crown prince and king, so much so he felt sick to his stomach...

  • @gerganakantcheva8176
    @gerganakantcheva8176 Před rokem +20

    Just to clear up the timeline 😄: After Simon tells Wille that he'll go to the police, Wille has an anxiety attack that makes him sick and bundles up in bed afterwards and misses the book presentation of his group (Sara, Simon and Henry) and lunch. Simon goes to check up on him after lunch. The next episode starts in Wille's room the next morning, which means they spent the whole (Friday) afternoon and night together. Simon says that his mom is meeting him at 10 am to go to the police with him (Saturday). The day after (Sunday) is the Celebration which is the school's 120 years Jubilee.

  • @grahamruthmay4010
    @grahamruthmay4010 Před rokem +43

    This episode for me, is all about communication. The therapist helps Wille to understand that he does have a choice of how to live his life, even though he has had no choice in having been born into the Royal family; he can take control of his own decisions instead of allowing his mother to make those for him, as she did by pressuring him into lying about the video. Wille communicates to Simon that he would give up the throne for him and put him first, something that Simon hasn’t believed since season 1 episode 5. Importantly, he gives Simon information in this episode, about August and about his own feelings, but also tells Simon that he should do what feels right for him. He gives Simon back the power to decide. In the book discussion in class, Simon acknowledges for the first time that he can understand the pressures and obstacles that Wille has faced and is still facing. Wille admits in the same discussion that it’s also partly his responsibility to cope with those and overcome them. In the final scene, they communicate their love for each other, even though they both acknowledge that they don’t know what is going to happen to their relationship. The process of them moving towards each other, instead of trying to turn away from each other in episodes 1-3, to a place of balance and understanding, which began at the end of episode 4, moves further in this episode, leaving hopeful possibilities for the finale. A small but lovely detail, about the sandwich- it mirrors exactly what Wille did at the beginning of season 1 episode 5, after they had spent the night together in Wille’s room and he took Simon a sandwich because he had to pretend he’d just come from the bus and wouldn’t have any breakfast. The series is full of such echoes and mirroring, visually and verbally, which is part of what makes it such a richly layered show. I could write all day and still not explore all of them- but don’t worry, I won’t! You are still not ready for the finale, trust me! 🫣😬😭❤

    In the previous episode, Wille cries while preparing for the ball because he transformed himself into the classic image of a Prince, something he never wanted to do/be. The shower at the beginning of this episode is Wille removing the vestiges of being a Prince, washing away the burden of responsibility.

    I liked the scene when Willie tells Simon about August being next in line because after the therapy session he reconciles with himself about how he actually feels and what’s possible, and that’s what he’s telling Simon. Willie said he doesn’t want to let his brother or family down so he is being honest about how he feels. Simon is now getting a chance to hear the real situation for Willie, given his position. And it’s good that Willie starts by apologizing for not telling Simon about August.

    I thought it was quite sad when Wille realised he had to close the blinds, not just because of August, but in the look they share when he gets up and goes to the curtains, it's almost them realising that they have to keep their love in the dark, behind closed "curtains", not in the light where they want to be.

    @mandipandi303 Před rokem +10

    I think everyone watching this was screaming, "CLOSE. THE. BLINDS!" at the end. I thought the love scene was actually pretty sad (which is apparently what the showrunners intended). It's like they're saying goodbye. The way Wilhelm kissed Simon when they were hugging was like he couldn't help it. He supports Simon in his decision to turn August in, but Simon doing so does eliminate any possibility of them being together. Being king without any option of escape scares Wilhelm a lot. I think it showed great maturity on Wilhelm's end to tell Simon, "I'm sorry for not telling you. This is how I feel about you turning in August. Here are the reasons why. I will leave the decision up to you and support you in whatever you choose." Wilhelm recognizes that Simon was the one harmed by August leaking the tape, and the decision should be up to Simon. He also knows he needs to be honest about how he feels about it and the consequences each choice will have for him/them. He takes responsibility for not being honest with Simon too. A great arc for both of them.

    I view drawing of curtains both as a minus- drawing on their previously traumatic experience- and maturity- accepting the situation for what it is and simply taking ownership of their own boundaries. Protecting what they can. Riding out the rest. They’re finally admitting their feelings to themselves and to each other without necessarily being able to change the future, and that’s a pretty mature way to handle all these awful choices, some of which no 16-yr-old deserves to manage in the first place.

    10:11 You do not have to have biological kids for your kids to be heirs to the throne. It can be that it is a straight or gay couple at the throne that adopt and their kid will be the next king or queen.
    I think she just meant natural as in the King and queens kids (doesn't have to be biological), Wille is the only one left so if not him it goes to someone outside like in August, that is not the natural way to get to the throne.
    So it's not said as natural as in biological but the natural way that it is passed to the oldest child of the king and queen.
    Maybe natural isn't the best translation.

    I'm enjoying this trip with you guys, and also more with time, watching it throught your reactions. This show comes accross to me as what you initially thought about heartstopper, when you started watching the first episode. Young Royals is a bit like fantasy land, starting with the fact (as you say!) that these are all kids consumed by this one relationship, which is a lot of fun to watch and it's gripping, but important to remember it's pretty far from reality to live this when they are not even old enough to live on their own (legally) 😋 It's good to keep that in mind... This is not reality, this much drama and life-changing decisions don't happen at 16. Maybe the drama, but probably more in their heads. It's kinda funny to imagine an adult nearby watching this unfold, going on about his life and doing his job, seeing a bunch of 16-year old kids looking with very dramatic expressions just interacting with each other and overreacting to what the other says and then stand there looking gloomy... While the gardener packs his stuff says bye, and goes home for the day, while some still stands there just thougtful and dramatic. It helps to stay grounded 😋 The rest of their lives is yet to come. This is a bit like a drama theatre play, that used a school as stage and the non-actors as extras.

    I believe both Wilhelm and Simon's personal crises are slowly leading them to grow emotionally, as you mentioned at the end of your video. An obligatory maturation, with accelerated times that are not natural, but necessary.
    Simon's crisis becomes evident from the end of the fourth episode, then at the beginning of the fifth, where his steadfastness cracks. It continues after he finds Wilhelm outside his house, because despite the ultimatum that he gives him, Wille finally opens his heart and his despair to him.
    Wille's meltdown is constant, but comes to a self-disclosure after the music room scene, where even Simon finally throws everything he thinks of the situation in his face (that room is cursed). In fact Wille realizes that he was as manipulative with Simon as his mother was with him, this is a bomb inside him.
    In the scene where they comment on the book there is a kind of reconciliation between them, a mutual recognition.
    Simon's integrity, deciding to denounce August is very typical of him, he would have distorted himself too much if he had decided not to. After all, it is Wille who is deciding to stay in the closet, Wille should be the one to really step out, towards him, without placing the responsibility for this on Simon's shoulders.
    In the last scene the repressed energy comes out, their lack of each other, I think it's a relief (for everyone), but it leaves one wondering how to interpret it. Not even they know if it's their last time together.
    This series is a wonderful rollercoaster, isn't it?

    Willie wasn't giving a Simon a ultimatum saying he'll lose him if he decides to report august
    he's saying that he'll give up the crown for Simon regardless but he understands stands that he needs to report him if that's what he truly wants and that he'll accept it if he does
    he's just scared because he's taking on a responsibility he wasn't prepared for nor did he ever want and doesn't want to disappoint his brother if he ends up failing
    Their relationship isn't toxic they're just trying to figure out a way to love each other freely the way they want without the pressure of the monarchy and the media and 3rd parties saying it's wrong
    THAT'S what Willie is trying to say when he says he wants to "be free" he doesn't want the crown or the pressure or anything.
    he just wants Simon

      Yes, thank you for that last point. It’s not a toxic relationship, it’s a relationship that lost its balance in season 1 because of August’s actions and the fallout from that and in my opinion, season 2 is about their journey back to finding their balance and themselves again, thus finding each other.

    You can cry all you want at the season two finale, but season 3 will be out soon (I hear October). Crown Prince Willhem and (knighted) Crown Prince Consort, Duke Simon. ?? It's complicated. I can imagine it was equally complicated for Queen Camilla, who technically is also has Consort added somewhere... She's also now has a title somewhere else, I think... in Cornwall? I think Prince William is Duke of Cornwall now... Good grief, titles are basically useless, and it's not written down in Burke's Peerage. Edward the 2nd had a boyfriend... and we all know how Edward was murdered... his consort wasn't much better off.

    Alex, if you're still single and looking for a partner, I'd love to volunteer. There's only a few minor issues. 1. I live in Australia (I'm sure we can overcome the long-distance issues), 2. I'm a little bit older (what's 15-20 years, age is just a number 😀), and 3. almost not worth mentioning, I'm a cishet female, which simply means one of us will have to change our gender/sexuality.
    And before anyone comes at me, I know that one of the above is impossible to change - age is a bitch 😏 /j
    And for those in the back, yes I know gender/sexuality is not a choice.

    Interesting your comment about "Wille on the table". It wouldn't really be possible, because the students are really ignoring the queer relationships in this story....remember Nills comment about the others knowing he was queer.
    For changing of choir soloist, yes it could be possible to have another one, but it is not rare that a choir has only 1 soloist or 2..
    "Fuck tradition"...aha good one!
    You seem surprised Wille has his hopes up. Why? He is not really "Simon's ex" at this point. He was ready to accept that Simon moved on, then Simon kissed him. It is pretty normal to have his hopes up....even if the situation is still complex.
    You skipped the first part of the classroom discussion here. I feel Simon was upset and took out on Wille for the song school decision, and the video recording, and it was very unfair. It was not his fault at all. I understand Simon's frustration, but not fair. I wonder what do you think about that part of their talk?
    I understand why Simon rejects Wille again at the end of this scene. Their situation is too heavy, and out of their hands.
    Yes, I agree on the second part of the discussion. Wille didn't trust enough Simon with the information, and it is not fair for Simon. I feel even worse from Sara, who is more than keeping secret, but also far from punishing August for it her way! It was maybe late to tell Simon, but anyway I am glad he told him.
    You are sure about Wilmon "friendship". I wouldn't define a friendship with this level of physical attraction I think.
    About "ultimatums", I think Wille has a strange relation with his mother, where he has to negotiate all the time to have an once of power on his own life. It has to be very tiring.
    Yes I agree, the therapist is like Simon. He wants Wille to act on what he wants. They both ignore the fact that Wille has no say on his own life. I enjoy their hope, but it feels it is like another pressure on Wille, from a different place.
    On Simon's porch. Yes I would like to see any middle ground too.Wille has taken a resolution to share this new information with Simon, to answer to his request of transparency, and repair the trust loss. And at the same time, he gives Simon his reality (legacy, his responsibility...), letting Simon decide anyway. It is a lot of responsibility to let Simon decide alone on Wille's future, even if I see why he did it. And I think it is progress too. But true it is not an easy relationship. But the Marcus trial showed that the easiest is not enough, if the feelings aren't there, so....I feel it worth trying.
    About the book discussion, I was surprised how they seem there to understand the other situation. Because in all earlier scenes, they just don't understand each other really, and stay in their own perspective. It was nice to hear anyway.
    I don't think Wille"feels betrayed by Simon", Wille is just sick about the situation:
    -His mother proposes August as spare, knowing what he has done
    -A possibility of a way out of being king, with the impression to let his family down
    -Simon goes to the police, and the video trauma resurfacing inevitably
    -Having to talk about accepting his queerness in front of the classroom in a presentation.
    ......well too much for his anxiety. Poor Wille
    You talk about a public come out.True it is not at the same level than a private one. For me it is a subject at, at least 3 parts in his case:
    1- Is he ready to come out at all? It is a very personal path, and he shouldn't be pressure by anyone to do it.
    2- Will he be allowed to come out publicly? Or will the court cover his actions and words all his life?
    3- Could he come out "as a normal person", and not come out publicly for now too?
    Oh you lost the chronology.
    Simon had done the presentation without Wille, then he went to have lunch, then he went to Wille's dorm.
    But your reaction was funny.😁
    You are right, and not I feel.
    After ep5, "the situation has not changed". Well they are still not allowed by the royal court to be together. That part hasn't changed true. However, the relationship itself has changed. Simon's trust in Wille seems to slowly be repaired by Wille actions, and Simon is not running away from the relationship anymore. So they have both progressed. But the main obstacle is still there: the royal court forbids their relationship.
    Ending like "Romeo and Juliet"? No they both died!! Please no
    Nice thinking about the start of "Wille and Simon alliance" in ep6. I waited too for them to "team up "since s1ep5 (for their first issue they failed to team up). So a big yes for me.
    You are right, the potential speech, could be an opportunity for Wille to have a say in his life. But the court would still try to control the fall out anyway I think, by separating them....
    What you mean about "ultimatum" feels more like "life choices", or "social pressure". If it is the case, I agree, it seems a lot for 16 kids as Wille, Simon or August (Sara and Felice have more teen problems for me).
