  • We visited Aberystwyth today, and were totally amazed at the restoration work carried out along the Sea Front that was severely damaged during the Storms in January this year. Everyone involved must be congratulated in undertaking this work and completing it to a very high standard in such a short time scale.
    We then followed Vale of Rheidol Railway No 9 Prince of Wales at various points on the climb up to Devils Bridge, where we see the new platform, and the work being carried out around the Station Area.

    I am happy to see the area making a great come back after the winter storms. The shots of the railway and the mountain area it travels to are breathtaking. Good to see you are having some beautiful spring weather; thanks for sharing it with all of us.

      Thanks Steve, I crave some steam to capture, got the West Somerset Gala at the end of the month, and two Black 5's down the Heart of Wales in April...so hopefully the weather will be kind...Best wishes...Bob

    They sure got a battering in the storms , so nice to see it all returning to normal , the Rheidol Railway looks to be a nice way to spend a day with , the young man was doing a good job cleaning the connecting rods and the loco was sparkling there in the sun

      I couldn't believe my eyes Dave, when I arrived at the sea front and saw the work that had been done. A ride on the Railway is highly recommended, but always sit on the left hand side to fully enjoy the amazing views...Bob

    Excellent filming. I remember travelling there overnight (via Euston,Crewe and Shrewsbury) back in '73 and sitting on the seafront at 730 eating my liver sausage sandwiches before travelling to Devil's Bridge on the 10 o'clock. Sea front looks great now,so a return visit is high on my agenda. Many thanks for your very much appreciated prompt.

    When you think of the mayhem we saw only a few weeks ago Aberystwyth has done such a wonderful job cleaning up the mess. Oh, and by the way the VofR looks beautiful. When I was a kid on my first Swindon open day one of the locos was in for overhaul. My mates and I were so chuffed to see it because we knew we'd never have the chance until we had our own cars! Lovely film. Regards, Pete.

      I know Peter, it really was difficult to take in, all the wonderful work that has been done in such a short timescale. The VOR has always been a special place, and these Swindon built locos are certainly kept in tip top condition......Regards...Bob

    It is pleasing to see that the coast has to find the calm and peaceful atmosphere. Congratulations to those who repair the damage from the storm. Beautiful locomotive "Prince of Wales" and, in addition, very well filmed as you know how. Pob hwyl.

    Great video Bob, we love Aberystwyth. My Dutch wife has visited this lovely town many more times than i have and i come from Wales! The station, the pier, nothing has changed she says. Wasted no time in the restoration after the battering it took in the storms, holiday season just around the corner and back in mint condition. Regards John

    Good to see the excellent repair work. Storm must have been horrendous at its height. As for the railway, absolutely charming. I remember that I parked my car at the top, had a look at the falls, then took the train train to Aberystwyth for the day. It was along time ago. I was flashing my brand new 8 mm camera everywhere! Happy days!

    • @robmasterman
      @robmasterman  Před 10 lety

      Thanks Austin, these locos were the only steam locos to carry the BR coming and going logo. My favorite livery, was the BR lined passenger green.....At the moment you have No 9 in Red and No 8 in GWR Green....No 7 is still in bits awaiting restoration....Bob

    Superb scenes Bob and very well videoed. I do remember visiting this railway in my trainspotting days in about 1970. Three locos Nos. 7,8 and 9 were in a shed, not sure where, in the middle of the night (we were travelling by car and must have been trespassing) in British Rail blue livery with the British Rail logo. I will try to visit this railway again, legally, sometime in the future. Regards, Jeff.

    • @robmasterman
      @robmasterman  Před 10 lety

    They've certainly pulled out all the stops on that seafront. Looks in great order for the coming season. Must be 50 years since my only visit to the VoR and it looks much tidier than I remember (with the locos in BR blue and two-way arrows on the tanks) but then the memory isn't that brilliant. Chris

    • @robmasterman
      @robmasterman  Před 10 lety
