- Thanks for watching! This is a brief video detailed what happened when we accepted a DJ booking in Fremont, CA. Our truck got broken into and we lost over $7k worth of DJ equipment, including the brand new Pioneer DDJ-FLX10, WMX1 Wolfmix and $1000 each moving head lights.

I usually do this too. I never usually leave anything in my truck overnight. But the one time I slipped up, it happened and it cost me big-time. But some of us learn the hard way. Bro this is terrible...Im so sorry to hear this happened to you guys!! My cars been broken into before and man, its such a violating feeling. Like you said, it really makes you question the state of the world when the thief doesnt even leave pieces of gum or the snacks you had. That sucks man. Last time I stayed at a hotel, I carried all the equipment into the room before and after the event.
My other team actually did this once, because they had a pickup truck. But if we use a box truck, would you think this is still a neccesary thing to do?

Part 2 will be coming soon bro, once I've made enough traction with the story I'll give you all an update. Yeah I was thinking about the whole airtag thing, but how do I attached them to subs, speakers, decks etc without opening them all up? Or is that the only viable method?
@@DJG.Music_ I typically use one air tag per pair (QSC, EV, etc) I just tape it to the bottom of the unit for speakers and to the back of the subwoofer near the mixer section. The air tag has a slim enough profile that it doesn't protrude and look noticeable.

so sad bro, I feel your pain, Ive been in the dj industry for 30years, I always think of my security at every Gig, from parking my car to unloading, and the final place where I park my car before I go to the event room, If you have a bad feeling about something, then your absolutely right, fix it and don't ignore what's going on, when you unload your vehicle watch people around you, cause they could potentially come back and break into your car, always cover your equipment, never leave anything out in the open in your car, if someone can see it then, they can steal it, always be mindful of your equipment, car windows can easily be broken and its a common way to access vehicles, get a alarm for your car cause audible alarms are a good annoyance for crims cause they just take what they can but they wont clean your car out, take care brother:)

I'm so sorry to hear what happened to you. Buy air tags and put them in your equipment cases and anything important. Also take photos of where you leave your car just incase something like this happens again (hopefully it doesn't) Not sure if your stuff was insured or not but it maybe something to look inot. Theft is become so common and it's a shame that there's not the accountability what it used to be. They get caught, they get released and artists lose. So sad.
really sorry to hear about that. but my tour manager friend says it happens a lot in the US, i mean people break into cars and steal valuables. they have kind of a rule not to leave stuff in a car which is not parked in a secure area and is not locked really good (like a metal door with proper locks)
Unfortunately this is the sad world we are living in today. I recently got my $1600 Fuji bicycle stolen when i removed it from the storage to get my DJ gear out. Leaving in front the house for one night was all it took.
Oh man I feel that pain so much! I just recently purchased a new bike too and the first thing I did was put an apple air tag on it. I'm actually considering doing this to my equipment too. You just don't know until it's too late!

Ive had my gear nabbed before. I used to have the good Cerwin Vegas with the silver cone horns and a nice rack with the qsc rmx amps. Those are gone now along with those og denon dual cdj things from the 90's and like 4 crates of 90's hip hop records, wicked mixes, top secrets and all that good stuff.

Man, trust me, at my last even I was almost in tears. I work so damn hard, and for someone to take my earnings like that, it's just wrong!
My apartment storage unit got broken into about three or four months ago. Luckily most of my Dj gear was in my actual apartment however they did get my pioneer Dj M750 mixer. Worth $1200 the two or $300 flight case that it was in. One of my harbinger 15 inch top speakers I was getting the other 15 repaired or they would’ve got that too. All of my speaker stands four of them in total all of my XLR cables this includes three 100 foot cables, 350 foot cables a bunch of 20 foot cables. They got a Chavet laser worth 180 bucks. too old CD J 800s that I am could’ve sold. I wouldn’t get much for them as well as too old CDJ 200s. Chauvet color band. Altogether at least $2600 worth of shit. Watch Nick Spinelli‘s video of his trailer getting stolen in broad daylight in Atlantic City New Jersey. He had a great idea to put AirTags in everything which is my next move as well as I just got a car alarm installed on my truck. I’ve since replaced all of my gear just about, but it’s a pain in the ass nonetheless.

It's sad that we got to resort to such things as keeping our equipment in our houses/apartments etc. I guess one plus for me was they didnt touch any of my Rean/Neutrik XLR cables. Take large table cloths and place it over all equipment so they cannot see the stuff and i also park under my window in any hotel

I spent some time working in security and as such was exposed to how low humanity can fall. Businesses are targeted on weekends, homes targeted during working hours. Neighbours pulling strobe/siren units off houses when they go off without any regard why it is going off. Theives parking ute up against walls to use it as a platform to reach and rip strobe/sirens off commercial premises. Stupid business owner breaking into his own store to access a left-open, fully loaded safe just before end of financial year. For mobile DJ rigs, one has to presume every stranger out there as a potential threat, even patrons. When I was doing mobile DJ performances back in the day when you had to carry vinyl and CDs for a company they gave me no security and consequentially too many people sometimes get around the rig and it is too difficult to keep an eye on everything while also performing. Some very rare CDs 'disappeared' from one performance. Humans are potentially lower animals. Trust no-one outside your own team.
Humans aren't what they used to be. The whole world is changing, and not for the better. I started DJing in the CD era, so I know the importance of that CD case we used to carry around. And 100% you are correct, no one can be trusted. Not clients, not venues, no one.
I feel for you, went through this decades ago, my apt. In nyc , took everything including hundreds of records. 6000.00 in 1981 is like 15000.00 today. My best I hope your laptop was with you

That’s terrible man, hope your insurance covers you. I try to put my bulkiest equipment at the top so if you break the window the doors still won’t open and it’s going to be hard to pull things out.
Oh that's a good way of thinking about it. But honestly, I'd avoid anything with windows. Van's and trucks only. It's just not worth the risk!
I highly suggest AIR TAGS on everything. Hide them in the gear.

I know someone old school originators SF/Bay Area Mobile Dj’s from 80’s. Moved to another city put all original owned & current equipments even record vinyls imagine crates worth from 80’s on a storage rental in Hayward. Yeah it all was lost due to theft dude cried when he found out.

I sincerely feel for you. That’s a huge loss . But Your biggest mistake was leaving the equipment in the car. Doesn’t matter if the car was literally right next to the hotel room Door. Everybody knows up north has the worst crime in California. I had a pleasure to Dj in the bay area and those two nights the wife and I brought the equipment into the room. Down to the smallest bag and we went to go eat it was always supervised. I sincerely hope this is a lesson to everybody watching your video and I hope you get back on track.
100% bro, I didn't take my box truck because I was trying to save of fuel, and now look at how much I've lost. A few tanks of fuel would have been nothing compared to what I've lost. But I could go on forever with the 'what if's'. I just have to swallow the pill and deal with the consequences. Yeah my guys have actually done an event where they moved all the equipment into their hotel room. Its sad we have to resort to this level of security!
You were cased at the party..More then likely someone at the event was watching and maybe taking pictures the whole time. Then they looked up your gear, for the prices, then watched your movements. In other words, you were watched and set up. The gear moves quickly on the street, and they already knew who would buy it. The other stuff is a mere distraction and if you are connected to the streets, you will hear something . Your gear will be gone within 72 hours and I hope you have serial numbers, like for the Flex 10,so if it pops up in a shop, it will be traced. That's is EXACTLY why my stuff stays home, and if you want me to spin outside, provide the gear.

Not when it's commercial grade equipment. It becomes difficult to justify to an insurance company that so much gear got stolen from your personal vehicle, away from home.

I had my insurance through RV Nuccio. After I made the claim they wouldn’t insure me anymore so I moved to a new storage facility and have the unit insured. Not sure if RV Nuccio isn’t insuring me or everyone on property now.
Sorry to correct that I’m saying that’s just on the property / inland marine insurance. I still have my general liability with RV Nuccio.
Last thing I’m gonna add is, Bay Area is turning into a hell hole and the last of the tech companies still there are leaving. Same with Los Angeles. Don’t go there with nice stuff.
Sorry to hear about this. I think honestly, if I know I have to DJ and spend the night in a hotel either one or two things. Hire a local sound company or rock, paper scissors someone is spending the night in the truck.
Honestly, I don't think this is a bad shout. But then I think to myself, well, I own my own equipment - I'm giving my profits away to someone else. But then - Is my equipment worth losing altogether? Double edged sword type of situtation, especially for mobile DJs. Spending the night in the truck might be a solution honestly!

Serious question and I’m not trying to make anyone uncomfortable or debate ethics, but the question is: do you think it may be time for DJ’s to carry a firearm to prevent car jackings and robberies?
I go back and forth because in 25 years of doing DJing I only felt worried about getting robbed at a gig one time and it was a gig that had a police detail which I was very grateful for.
It’s a sad world that we live in these days.

Honestly, I don't think carrying weapons is going to put a stop to anything. These people are willing to risk their lives for anything. But it's sad because this is a petty crime for the cops. We don't get no assistance in these kinds of situations and for many, this is our livelihood. Not just for us DJs, but for many other industries. And the thieves get away with it so often! I even have a location of where they live and work, and the cops still don't want to listen! So, where does this begin and end?
The Problem is dont let that Staff in the Truck or Car when i go home the same way is to Risky back in the day with Records to , i wont let my Equipment in the car bring it always home Hotels are not safe without Security

Such an expensive truck with thousands of dollars in gear but no alarm on the truck? Did you have insurance on the gear?.. the lesson for everyone is never park in vulnerable areas and Invest in an alarm system for personal vehicles.

Lessons learned there. You will have to replace your gear off the pay off your next few events. You should know djing and thieves go hand in hand and that's just the promoters. And some of the djs (terrence parker) has stolen loads of cash in advances and never turned up.

No prob, about 12 years ago my stuff was stolen (music laptop, mixer, wires, camera, etc and I hated the feeling but it actually got me to be a stronger, more thoughtful person. Hardest thing was to forgive whoever stole it but eventually I moved past and saved enough for bigger and better equipment. Best of luck bro! 💪🏽🤙🏽

I went to college in Norcal and definitely don’t leave any values in your car. Even in our college community homesless and drug addicts would break into cars at night. My roommates girlfriend got her laptop stolen, other roommate had his stereo stolen. I know someone in the bay whose car got set on fire. Even in chico a lot of criminals from the bay area I heard drive there when all the students our gone for winter break and break into apartments. With inflation and post pandemic life people are struggling to get by and resort to these activities. Wish you the best. Hopefully you have some back up gear
When there's something visable, I get it. There's a valid reason to break in etc. And of course, my stuff was visable so that's a poor start. But when it gets to a point where event chewing gum is being stolen, are things really getting that bad? It's crazy! Yeah we have backup gear, but it still hurts! lesson no 1 never live gear in the car , no mater what you job is , dj gear , guitars gear , photography gear ,laptop , iven tools like drill and grinder saw , if some one can make 20buck from your stuff some one will broke your window and steal it ,, got my car broken in to once , they toke only my car stereo on dash , was brand new and worth like 150euro ,
and cops neibourg , paser by , no one give a f ,, for you s,,,, security camera are pretty much useless , and the chance that cops will track down your stuff or the tife is slim to non , and insurance company are a scam they will not pay you , for mobile gear , in car ,

Daniel is like a brother to me - we fight and argue like brothers. I lashed out on Daniel because I was so frustrated that even a week after the incident, we're setting up for another event and during that setup phase, we're realising we lost more equipment than we originally thought. Daniel messed up on something during the setup and due to me being so frustrated, I lashed out on him and we walked away from each other to cool down. It was in the heat of the moment type of thing. And was there no alert in the hotel reception when there's unusual audio/activity on CCTV? I feel like hotels should be liable for crimes like this on their property. Like is their hotel secure, or not?

It's all good bro. I honestly have no idea why the wallets were in the truck, maybe that's just what they do. I know I do stupid stuff like this too sometimes but after this incident, my whole perspective has changed on my surroundings. Thank you so much!

shit happens,it’s a risk that you took in transit between gigs without having proper insurance for your equipment. Your fault if that’s your work equipment and your not insured and your transporting it in the back of a vehicle that offers no protection whatsoever. Chalk it up to experience and get insured properly and AirTag and track everything.
