- So we got in a short test-drive of the new Toyota Rush, do log on to www.piston.my for more details and photos, but here's a taste:
The All-new Toyota Rush, set to debut in early 2019 and priced below RM100,000 is powered by the latest Toyota 16-valve DOHC 1.5-litre engine which has a maximum output of 105 ps at 6,000 rpm with 136 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. With a proven and reliable 4-speed automatic transmission that comes with Automatic Stop-Start system, fuel consumption is better and can be as good as 15.6 kms per litre. This qualifies it as an Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) under the current Malaysian National Automotive Policy.
The seating layout is 2-3-2 over three rows, with easy access to the third row. The cargo capacity is 217 litres but when required, the volume can be expanded to 514 litres by folding the rear seats.

Yeyy! I got the advanced safety features here in Malaysia. Thank you UMW Toyota for bringing me here! Next stop Thailand. I'm coming for you brother Avanza.
😂😂😂😂👍🏾😎
Congrats man! Enjoy your car.
Hi Sergiu, actually no, I didn't buy it, this is a test drive unit and my first-impression report for www.piston.my only, haha! Thanks for watching! 👍🏾😊
Nice review dude👍
Thanks a lot! And thank you for watching 👍🏾😊
I noticed that at 130kph the rpm is fixed at 4k rpm and I hear the engine making quite a noise. Do you have a heavy foot or does the Rush really just perform like that? Is it really underpowered? Please give me an honest insight because I'm choosing between this and the Honda BR-V which is a little bit smaller but has a slightly beefier engine. Thanks! 😁
A bit of both actually, haha! But yes, due to the 4-speed gearbox, the revs are quite high at higher speeds and it does get a bit loud too. Strongly suggest u test drive both before making a decision! Thanks for watching 😊
Thank you very much, sir! 😁

Hello there! This is in Malaysia. What you see here is what comes from UMW Toyota, the official importer. It's called 'Blade Design'. Interesting to know the exterior design in Indonesia is different, thanks for your feedback, and thanks for watching 🙂

Your welcome , sure why not 🙂
In Brunei Toyota Rush 2018 highest spec is Type S model...
This very cool version of the Toyota Rush is a Malaysian oath, hopefully this version can enter Indonesia. 😍 I really hope.
Has it? So sorry I'm replying this only after a year!!🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽😊
Toyota Rush has been made in Indonesia and will be exported to Philipine, Malaysia and Vietnam. In Indonesia Toyota Rush is one of the best car in sale.
Yes they may be, but these units in Malaysia are made in Malaysia, Rawang to be precise. Thanks for watching 👍🏾😊
@@ChrisWeevilGarage yup. Its "made". But all the spare part came from japan.
Hi there Chris. I heard the transmission is pretty rough especially when the gear change from first to second. Is it true?
Hi Janvier, it wasn't rough, but during hard acceleration, it was a bit noisy. It's also a bit too sensitive and seems to drop gear too easily. I'll need to drive it more I guess, maybe I'm not used to it yet. We only got about 20min per driver, hardly enough for a more in-depth review. Stay tuned though because I'll be getting it again for a longer review soon! Thanks for watching! 🙂
@@ChrisWeevilGarage thanks for answering. Because I heard the Indonesian version were pretty rough when 1st gear change to 2nd but the rest are smooth.
@@janviersechan9670 that's very interesting, I'll pay more attention to this when I get the test unit back for a longer review soon!, thanks for the feedback! 👍🏾🙂
@@ChrisWeevilGarage awesome. I'll wait for your next review. 😁
At 2:37, engine at 4000rpm for 130km/h, engine noise maybe loud with rather high fuel consumption for long highway traveling in Msia.
The bane of having just 4 speeds... yes, you quite right, a 5th gear would have been nice. Thanks for watching and the feedback 👍🏾😊
Looking at the final Aruz to be shown and probably cut into Rush sales. I think many are waiting for Aruz already. It is about 20K savings which is a lot!!!
I think so too, the order books for the Aruz are open and from what I hear they're filling up fast! Thanks for watching! 😊
It has always been a pleasure ever since Chris made youtube videos. His command of english, is proper. Knew him from Autocar and CBT. Sorry on this comparison, listening to Bobby's talking, made me cringe with his 'seader'...'capacidy'.. i dont know whats with the pronounciation, but nonetheless both are great journalists. I might be nitpicking. But yeah, Chris's video is a pleasure to watch, just need to improve a lot on video quality
Wow, thanks so much for this super comment JD, really made my day! Very happy to hear you've been following my automotive exploits for quite some time now, and yes, I'll be upgrading my equipment soon 😊
Cheers bud, thanks again and do hang around for more to come 👍🏾😀
Thanks for the review Chris, time to small upgrade your video review. I recommend DJI mobile. Thanks me later mate. Keep it up!
Kenneth most welcome, thanks for watching! Yes I've already ordered one but it hasn't arrived yet, tq for the feedback 🙂👍🏾
Awesome!
The toyota rush exported here in the PH has many defects... like busted lights., vibrating parts. Inverted bolts etc.
That's surprising given it's a Toyota! Thanks for watching and the feedback 👍🏾😊
There is blue color. I think it will looks better in red mica. Side moulding seem with BRV Facelift.
Yes there's a few colours to choose from, the red is quite nice too, but the blue is the most striking to me 😁
nice improvement in Malaysia by Perodua. I see some features that is not included for Rush Indonesia and other countries..👍
I guess same engine & transmission with Myvi? The rev engine and signal sound really similar to myvi...the usb port on driver seat, side seat pocket, anti snatch hook & precollision warning really so the myvi one...haha...maybe its version of myvi with high ground clearance, backrow aircond blower and extra 2 seats...haha
Well, theres no denying the underlying Toyota/Daihatsu & Perodua connections, so yes, some of the tech and gadgetry from all three parties have been shared across several models within each carmaker... it'll be interesting to see how the new Perodua Nautica stacks up against this new Rush 😉
@@ChrisWeevilGarage Nautica vs Rush coming soon...the battle of the two cars under the same company....cant wait to see that.....hehe
The Rush & Terios twins are more identical to an Avanza rather than a Myvi. But still however, the electronics and finishing (such as the pre collision system) were taken directly from the Myvi, or basically Daihatsu safety assist system on it's basic form. Nevertheless, the Rush for this generation actually looks far better than the previous ones but the only stuff i hope is that they will probably brought a 4WD variant into Msia...
@@sequentialtt0415 agreed with that...plus currently the Rush provides good safety for family type car compare to the BRV....
@@sequentialtt0415 it was a bit of a surprise for us as well, that there's no 4WD/AWD/ToD variant for the new Rush, it's just a RWD, for both variants. I'm keen to see the spec level of the new Nautica coming soon 😊
Thanks for watching and the feedback! 👍🏾
Is this the Toyota Rush G TDR full set?
Yes, this one is the top of the line variant 😊
11:48 Land Mines, LMAO! Good review, nice car. Price RM93K and RM98K, I don't know, feels a bit pricey.
😂👍🏾 thanks for watching!
Lee Mike because Rush is high spec version, Produa will be low spec version start from 80k++
Buy kancil then
With the price currently declared.....with 2 extra seats...XC 70 makers should be worry on their price tag...
X70 you mean? Yes, that's a good point, although the Proton X70 is bigger physically, has more kit and is in a different segment 🙂
It's 2 different things. Performance and driving experience are totally different. This 1.5 engine has been using for more than a decade though…
Consider getting a handheld stabilizer bro
For sure. Already ordered one, it hasn't arrived yet, thanks! 😄
Can drive on the road with Rush plates?
No, we actually had trade plates on each car, and it was just a short drive around the launch area only, hence why it's just a first impression 😊
Well actually in your country, this rush been combine with terios, the safety from toyota and the feature is from terios, so for the engine it self, they using dual vvti from avanza/xenia. So some say this engine is under power then before and fuel efficient. For the design was great and more safety then before, if i'm wrong, you can reply it. :)
Greetings and thanks for your feedback! No, you are not wrong, and yes there are indeed valid questions on whether a naturally-aspirated 1.5L is enough to push a fully loaded 7-seater, despite having VVT-i as u mentioned... I'm curious too, because it was fine with just 3 of us on board 🙂
@@ChrisWeevilGarage thanks for the feedback sir :))
@@rafaelsontana7010 my pleasure, thanks for dropping by and watching, hope you'll stay tuned for more to come 🙂👍🏾

Why no leather seats, other safety tech here in the Philippine-market Rush? But in this Malaysian-market has these nice features?
Interesting to know that Victor... different specs for different markets I guess? I just found out earlier that the 2018 Rush in Indonesia looks different too. There are 2 variants here, I reckon the introductory model won't have a lot of the kit mentioned here. Will have to wait and see. Thanks for watching! 😊👍🏾

@@aquaboy1650 ah ok, that's a big price difference! The base model here will cost around RM93k, it'll have some, but not all the kit of the top spec model 😊

Really like a myvi design
It's a practical car, and the latest iteration looks very good styling wise... hard to not like it's value for money proposition too 👍🏾😊
I wonder if it would struggle with heavy load?
Fair point actually. Well, there were only 3 on board here, so it's hard to say, even if 2 of us accounted for 3 adults, size wise, haha 😁

The KLIMS 2018 videos after this one were all shot using a gimble. Thanks for watching and sorry for the migraines! 😊
Most compact suv, body length and width a little smaller than Honda City.
Hows the fuel consumption vs avanza
On paper the 2018 Rush is said to return a combined FC of 6.7L/100km, while the Avanza is a claimed 7.2L/100km. This is all according to Toyota themselves, I've never done a real-world FC comparison between the two. Thanks for watching! 😊
@@ChrisWeevilGarage can do one ah? Real FC rush vs avanza vs sienta?
@@CARWMK I would love to, but unfortunately the test units for the other 2 older variants are no longer available, sorry... I reckon they'd all hover around the same FC figures actually, and also a lot of it depends on vehicle load and driving style, stop and go traffic vs. open highway, etc. Cheers! 😊
HOW MUCH TIME DOES IT TAKE TO LANCH IN INDIA & price conform
Sorry, I have no idea, you will have to check with Toyota India over there, this test and video was done in Malaysia 😊
It won't come to India you fucking dumbass fuckdian!
I told you fuckidans that im not coming to your worst overpopulated counrty!
The previous spyshots of the first generation Toyota Rush is just a benchmark vehicle used by Tata Motors. So basically it won't come to India. Only for testing purposes.
No middle headrest for second row
Correct, there isn't an allocation for one 👍🏾
Interesting that its a 7-seater but the seat belt indicator on the center stack only shows a maximum of 5.
Would be nice if they also included a manual option given the high ground clearance and RWD layout for some light off-roading or load hauling.
That's some pretty amazing sharp eyes you have there! Yeah we were wondering about that too. It does chime if anyone in the 2nd row isn't belted up, I'll have to check later if it does the same for the last row as well.... Thanks for watching! 😀
Innova is 1 class higher, avanza is 1 class lower.
Will there be anyone that makes something perodua kenbara size aside from Peugeot 2008 but I digress

@@yagooatthegoat I'm curious too actually, knowing this Rush exists, I'm pretty sure they'll go all out to price it lower somehow, maybe not as much additional tech stuff like front collision alert with autonomous braking, cross traffic alert, front vehicle departure warning, BLIS, etc.... but I'm just speculating of course, will have to wait and see in November 😊

Yes unfortunately, I was surprised too. I'm definitely going to test the consumption out when I get the test car for a longer time in future. This round was just a short first impression. Thanks for watching! 👍🏾😊
Toyota 4 speed gearbox are the most reliable and durable on the market..its been proven time and again. If they were to put a 6speed or cvt then the Malaysian market will comment on high maintainance....shesshhh..How many times have you heard a 4speed gearbox from Perodua which also gets the gearbox from Toyota broke down. How many times you heard CVT or DSG gearbox broke down...Plentyyyy especially from VW...What i honestly think the real issue is this car needs a higher cc engine to pair with that 4speed.1.5cc for a SUV 7seater is putting too much strain on that engine
How much ....... Cost ?
Price to be confirmed, 2 variants, estimated rm93k & rm98k 🙂
much better than Indonesian version
How many versions in Indonesia? We are getting 2 here, so the base model will probably look the same but without as much tech kit. Thanks for watching! 😃

Thanks for watching and the feedback, it's great to have a choice isn't it, both will appeal to different types of buyers I'm sure 😊👍🏾
How come is not a AWD
A very good question! Well, it's likely to save on end-user costs, as well as keep the weight down, benefiting fuel efficiency. Also, it seems to be a trend these days to just offer a 2WD system in SUVs, since a bulk of buyers won't really need a 4WD set up for their daily needs. That said, I do feel that at least one variant should be offered with at least a ToD AWD system.
