    Finally ready to work out of the van! Do you like a cart only style setup or a hybrid like mine?

      When I had a Sprinter, it was setup with just E-track around the perimeter and I strapped carts on both sides. I also mounted stands on the back doors. It worked well for me because I was often putting additional camera carts in, and sometimes I needed to get everything out entirely, so having it all on wheels made that very simple. The major problem with how I has it setup was it left a very narrow walkway down the middle that wasn’t wide enough for a cart, so it tended to get packed with awkward long things. Dealing with those things was always a hassle because they had to be moved before you could load or unload anything at all.
      I like how yours is designed. It wastes less space because you can still keep a couple of carts in the center isle, you aren’t ramming into the van’s wheel wells with cart wheels, and it takes better advantage of the height. It also looks like you still have enough room to carry one or two collapsed Magliners in the vertical position in front of your two DIY carts. Overall, nice job!
      What’s your plan for sandbags? Ideally those would be near a door, or when you get the lift gate, on a cart of their own.

      @@MrAndrewClaycomb There are a few locals that have their vans as 100% carts. They are great for big shoots. But when you need just one thing off each cart, it can be a nightmare. Since I do both camera and G&E, this was the best setup for me overall. Like you noticed, two carts and some magliners do the trick.
      I run shot bags and have 20 x 20# shot bags right at the sliding door. You can see it kitted out for shoot here:

      Thank you so much for the comment and for watching!

      @@MrAndrewClaycombinteresting to hear! I agree that a hybrid setup is probably the best. You can fit more stuff on shelves (generally speaking), but having carts is also a must have. I really like how piotrs is set up. Seems very sturdy, and he’s able to fit a bunch on those shelves whether milk crates, apples, aputures, etc. I have a similar setup with shelving on the left side, stands on the right, and then E track all around on the walls and shelves to secure carts and fishers. It seems to be pretty versatile as opposed to everything on carts. Looking forward to seeing what lift gate he goes with! I’m thinking he likes the palfinger ;)

    11:57 is this "all" you need in terms of regular lightstands? Do you maybe also have a bunch of slimmer Manfrotto style prosumer grade lightstands?

    • @PDMokry
      @PDMokry  Před 8 měsíci +1

      So I have a bunch of the light duty stands, but don’t use them too often. I tend to grab cstsnds for the little setups. I carry 9 full size and 2 short ones on a cart. I also bring rolling stands if it will make it easy on me.

      I used the Matthews Door Racks. One needed to be shaved down to work. But they are solid!

    What would you estimate is the total weight of all the strut and lumber? How are you on total weight once loaded with all the gear?

    • @PDMokry
      @PDMokry  Před 8 měsíci +1

      I have a payload capacity of 4,453 lbs. All in on the added strut, lumber and hardware I'm at 750 lbs on the build so far. I have 400 lbs of shot bags on the van.
      That gives me 3,300 lbs of payload for my gear. I have plenty of wiggle room and don't expect to reach my limit with the style of work I do.

      @@PDMokry Nice. What do you expect the lift gate weight to be? And what do your custom carts weigh empty? Thanks for making these videos!
