If you watch and listen closely the glass didn't break due to getting hit rather it was the vibrations flexing multiple points eventually causing stress at the weak points, if this glass had a frame around it it would be significantly much more difficult to break

When i studied tempered glass at university I was fascinated. The glass was heated very much and then quickly cooled with jets of air. The internal core at the end of the procedure is longer than the internal surfaces which become shorter. As a result, the glass above the surface spends its entire life covering the glass of the inner core. This means that glass has three advantages 1) greater resistance to bending 2) when it breaks it is reduced into small, non-dangerous pieces 3) greater resistance to high temperatures. The logic is the same used in prestressed reinforced concrete. When it breaks it "explodes" because in a few seconds all the tensile and compressive stress energy induced when the glass was rapidly cooled is released

Toughened glass is a funny thing sometimes, I work in a window/glass business and we got rid of some old scratched shower panels a little while ago we slid them on their flat into a metal trailer with such force they bounced off the metal headboard and rebounded a foot. I then proceeded to tip them out using the hydraulic tipper of the trailer they were on the bottom of a ton if other hard rubbish, some of the 10mm panels didn’t break! By contrast I had a 6mm panel explode in my hands to this day I don’t remember hitting the edge lol!
With tempered/toughened glass, a gentle tap with a hard object on the exposed side edges is all you need.

We have one of these a bit smaller that was on hinges that swung in and out and I remember 2 years ago sitting on the toilet doing my usual business just scrolling through Instagram when the entire thing just shattered out of nowhere and pieces were flying everywhere. There is regular glass and tempered glass. Regular glass breaks easily, is cheaper to make, produces large cutting shards of glass when it breaks and it can break/crack just in a part while the rest remains relatively intact. Tempered glass is more expensive, harder to break, produces very small, much safer pieces of glass when it breaks and when it breaks it shatters all at once, because it is releasing internal tensions in the material. We use regular glass for stuff like house windows, but tempered glass for things we put ourselves into, like the shower box or a car.
Oh, and another interesting detai. Some tempered glasses have a film around them, so if they break, the film is flexible enough that it will stay in place and all those lateral particles won't.
This is the case of your front windshield, I believe. The lateral window however is only glass, because you can break it to escape the car, in case of necessity. Use the head supporter from your sit if you don't have a hammer or tool to break it, it has a metal point in the end.
Tempered glass is much safer than normal glass but that didn't stop me from getting a long piece of it embedded in my foot a week ago lmao

Spark plugs are really good at breaking tempered glass. Something about the hardened steel brought to a sharp point.
