  • An innovative UNMIL Quick Impact Project at Monrovia Central Prison has inmates baking bread and pastries and selling them to other inmates and staffs, and to some outsiders who are lucky enough to get the tasty treats while they're hot.
The program is simple: provide inmates with the materials, space, and training they need to produce the baked goods, and add some business skills to get them thinking about possible livelihoods when they get out of "South Beach," the commonly used term for the prison.
Watch the transformation of dough and other ingredients shaped by the hands of the capable inmates who are finding direction and as sense of purpose in a tough prison environment.
