Japan Emperor Naruhito proclaims enthronement in ancient ceremony

- Emperor Naruhito, 59, has completed his ascension to Japan's Chrysanthemum Throne.
In a centuries-old ceremony, he officially proclaimed his enthronement and vowed to fulfil his duty
as a symbol of the state. More than 2,000 guests from Japan and abroad were invited to the
Imperial Palace to witness the ceremony. Emperor Naruhito has pledged to follow in the
footsteps of his father Emperor Emeritus Akihito in upholding peace for the country and the world.
