I am 38 in 2024, my dad is 92, my mom would be 80 this year. I grew up on these dudes!!! So many memories on Beatles music!!!! Thank you mommy and daddy!!!
I'm 39 and same. Been listening to them all my life. Was completely obsessed from when i was 10 and watched the Anthology series in repeat.
Just three years later George was playing the sitar.
Three years back then is sooo long
Why is it longer back then?
@@bentownsend4017From the amount of novel connections that were being made in the 60’s, so much ground was being covered in so little time.
@@bentownsend4017 In the Beatles case, they were literally working and progressing all of the time, at a staggering pace. They were working on Let It Be three weeks after recording The White Album. They just never stopped. The volume of music they recorded in 8 years is not unparalled but the progression and the quality IS unparalled. They crammed a 25 year career into 8 years.
That's crazy to think about
Ringo had just joined The Beatles on August 18, 1962 just four days before this was filmed!
Looks like Gary "Baba Booey" Dell'Abate.
they should've kept looking 😂😂
Which explains the square haircut.
at the end of take one, they shout" WE WANT PETE"!
@@jsngalleryhey, a little fookin’ respect! You’re talking about the man that put the beat into the Beatles - the single most successful music act in history.
I'm glad someone had the forethought to film this.
Even back then some dude took his smartphone.
was being filmed for a Granada TV show, Know The North
Filmed for TV.

Un documento storico
Ringo, 22 years old, John, 21 years old, Paul, 20 years old, George, 19 years old.
First recorded film and live performance The Cavern Club 22nd August 1962
A few weeks later recorded their first song Love Me Do 4th Sept 62.
Last stadium concert 29 August 66, Candlestick Park San Francisco.
Last live performance & Get Back last song performed live 30 January 69, Saville Row, London
The End, their final song recorded and completed 20 August 69.
Last photo session and film 22nd August 1969 Tittenhurst Park, Ascot 22nd August 1969.
Amazing.
And your point is?
O-keeeeeeeeeee….
@Pharoset Well it certainly interesting how much more sophisticated and appealing & spacious and open Love Me do is ...and catchy, than ' some other guy' for example. (Although I love that tune)
In a short 4 years later they're playing in front of like a zillion people at candlestick park. In a short 4 years later they're stopping touring altogether! That's a pretty short amount of time for most bands to go from the cavern club to a huge stadium to stop touring.
Put it all makes sense, they covered a lot of ground, they were ready to stop etcetera it all makes sense but it's pretty phenomenal compared to most bands.
The part about recording final song 5 years after candlestick, well, whatever. That of course makes a ton of sense
@@Pharoset= 🤡
I believe Pete Best was the drummer for the Beatles in 1962.. Ringo joined in early 1963
Thank goodness those kids in the audience had such good taste.
I see them as part of history being made. Early fans are the basis for any band to go on and become big or not. I thank every one of those faces for supporting them in that dark and damp stage!
It’s weird watching them play, in their prime, without the crazy fanatics from the crowd!
It is odd to us now, but this isn’t really their prime. That would come a couple of years later as far as the hysteria. At this point they were pretty much a local and few surrounding areas band doing covers. No one besides Epstein saw much of anything incredibly special at this point.
Later on John, Paul and George stated at various times that the best they ever were as far as an actual live band were those early Hamburg Germany days in which they played in rough clubs for way too many hours and very little pay. Thats where they learned their chops and became musicians. Would really be cool to see footage of that.
I doubt very many at this concert had any clue the Beatles would completely explode and become the greatest songwriting rock band of all time.
We can say “John, Paul, George and Ringo” and 90% of the people on the planet will still know who you are talking about 62 yrs after this film footage was taken. But in ‘62 you could say those names and only a very small number would even know who the Beatles were but they probably couldnt even name the members and certainly not their full names.
Pretty crazy to think of the Beatles as “just another band trying to make it” but that is what they were at this time pretty much.
@@FleagleSangria Funny, if you really think about it, it was 2 simple decisions made on the part of Messrs. Epstein and Martin that actually changed the world of Music and generations to come.
Maybe back then their fans were there for the listening and musical experience more than the emotional one. If you can find it Bob Woolers Sept. 1961 article in MERSEYBEAT is prophetic and spot on about the UK rock scene and how even then The Beatles were separating themselves from "the carefully contrived jungle rhythms" of London.
ahh- you could see Beatlemania brewing in the gals lol.
This wasn’t their prime. At least not creatively
My god they were amazing, I bet they were so fun to watch in person 😭
They were!!
Saw them when I’d just turned 9 when they came to Seattle in August 1964 ❤️❤️
What a wonderful time capsule! They never cease to amaze me from hearing them for the first time until today. I was four years old when my brother and sister introduced me to the lads. That was 55 years ago and they are still my favourite pop/rock band ever. To me they are the Alpha and the Omega that launched and influenced so many other artists.
Well said.
It was 62 years ago. (Doesn't time fly? 😏 )
@@zakmartin ahhh sorry dufus! Read much? I said “ it was 55 years since “I” was introduced to the Beatles. 55 plus 4 is 59 not 62, goofy!
I love Ringo’s in-time bounce with the other Beatles on stage. Just fantastic!
Yes! I noticed the same thing!😅They were so in sync. Ringo truely completed them. When the crowds were screaming so loud that Ringo couldn't hear them he used to keep time by watching J, P, and G bounce up and down!😅😅😅❤❤❤
I think that's Pete Best 🤔

The bass paul is playing in this video was lost and very recently recovered.
Ahem....
Stolen.
Wow. I wonder how that thing is worth? Gotta be hundreds of thousands...
this might be the coolest recording of any band.
How could they have been rejected by 21 Record Companies???? So glad they made it and made it to the very top and became the greatest of all time!
It shows how much idiots at the top who didn't have a clue
Guitar music was on the way out lol
Incredible to see all these years later. I was 12 and they hadn't yet recorded anything. A year later they took the U.S. (and me) by storm!
I hope Paul and Ringo have enjoyed watching this 😍
This was actually before Ringo. Drummer was Pete Best
@@robert48719 That's actually Ringo in the background, in his first days with The Beatles at 1:41. Just a couple of days before, they had decided to replace Pete with Ringo.
It's in the Anthology documentary. So George had seen it too.

Over the next 7 years the trail of songs they made and the advancement in their musical ability is just unreal. In no other band can you see how they changed everything.

Sure it is.
I saw the Rutles play there in 62. Dirk, Stig , Nasty and Barry knocked it out of the park.
Actually, it's Dirk, Nasty, Stig and Barry. More symmetrical sounding. And let us not forget Nasty's friend from college, 'Lepo'. Lepo wasn't keen on musicianship, but he knew how to have a good time. I think he may have left The Rutles by '62.
Anyway, it was all about the trousers. 😅
@@waynej2608 That sounds like two separate groups. I’d go with “Nasty, Stig, Dirk, and Barry”. More euphonious.
Goosestep Mama forever! : )
Goosebumps! Great post.
My favorite album of theirs is still "A Hard Day's Rut". Brilliant stuff.
This is a gem!!!! Great job with the clips. They should've recorded this song for an album.
The way all four of them are bobbing up and down to the beat in unison.
I’d give anything to go back in time 😮
So young and talented!
Well, they had been playing gigs together for 1000s of hours already. That long stint in Hamburg made them pro.
J
Notwithstanding everything that came later, which was GENIUS, this early period is what The Beatles were all about.
You can't beat the excitement, passion and thrill of when you first start off in a Rock n Roll band, particularly with the 'vibe' that was happening in Liverpool & Hamburg at the time.
They played with intense, non-stop energy, and somehow managed to make it look so easy. Amazing!
Yeah. They took drugs. Speed. No drugs. No Beatles. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
@@brimans3092
Well, I guess you could say that about most bands of the time...or even now.
amazing, over 60 years ago, this stuff was almost early punk. paul mentioning later on when asked if they thought they'd be big, he said they knew they had something the way they could pack them in.
Just watching how in sync they are says volumes for the way they all fit together.
After listening to them with Pete Best as their drummer and then with Ringo in this, you realise why they dumped Pete.
Because they were afraid George Martin would dump them.
@@jeffryphillipsburnsThat's not what George Martin said. George told the band: "You can keep him for stage appearances but we'll have someone else in the studio."
@@57highlandjust like a lot of bands in those days had to do. On the actual records, many times session musicians were used.
@@johnheinrich6907 And George Martin added (I'm paraphrasing): "When I said that we'd have another drummer on the tracks (the recordings), I then realized that they (the band) were thinking the same thing" (i.e., wanting to replace Pete).

That is Mr Starkey...
I've seen these clips a million times - -- and I'm still captivated - - - - what's stunning is their perfect synchronization. They are one. They're footwork and bobbing up and down are one. Their voices are one. Their movements are one. Ringo's new, and is one with them. They are a perfect machine. A four-headed monster that had honed their craft thousands of hours days and nights. They deserve every bit of fame and money this world bestowed on them. There will never be anything like them again.
You can see the connection between John and Paul as they look at each other, they had spent hours writing together and Forthlin Road. The intro to this song is out standing.
This was after they'd already done hundreds of shows for two full years in Hamburg, Germany, from '60 - '62. By the time they returned to the UK, here, in '62, they were an extremely seasoned band - although Ringo had just joined them, a few days before, here, which shows just how great Ringo was in fitting in so quickly. But yeah, by the time this film was taken in '62, they had spent 2 years playing hours-long shows on amphetamines, sleeping with hookers and becoming the tightest band in the world. The whole "polite boys in sweaters and ties" thing at the Cavern, here, was extremely calculated, as they were leather-wearing, drug-taking scouses for 2 years before this. The Beatles that were introduced to the UK and the U.S. was specifially designed for mass appeal; they were hard-rocking, drug-taking nuts in reality.

And the rest is history
The Beatles by 64 had already worked like dogs, gigs in Hamburg, the Cavern Club and elsewhere and by the date in this video hadn't even written there 1st song possibly? That shows hard work, dedication beyond what most of us could have, and stamina!
😊
“I Saw Her Standing There” was played in Hamburg.
Yep, they often played three gigs a day in different venues for weeks on end. Neil Aspinal, their roadie must have covered thousands of miles with them in the back of the van. And they played lunchtime gigs at the Cavern very often, then evening gigs there or elsewhere.
They could certainly Rock it shows they were destined for greatness because they changed the sound of music. I’m glad someone filmed this because it’s part of Rock history and shows that early performance at the Cavern Club.
Fun to see how Paul has changed how he holds his Höfner during the years. The bass started out on his chest and has ended up on his hip 😁
And I heard on the radio news this morning that this Hofner, that went 'missing' in around 1972(?), has been tracked and returned to Paul, now aged 81 and still playing from his heart and soul. I found myself crying with joy at this news!
