    It's too bad all the corny channels that already have the money for sweet setups get all the views, likes, & moneys, but you still got a shot kid! Good on ya! Also, appreciate you keeping it 100% and showing the growing pains which are our mistakes. Or to quote Bob Ross, "happy accidents." Doesn't work out so well when you're trying to forge weld. So I've heard.

    I always find forging wrought iron really fun because of how much it moves compared to tool steel/HC steel.

    That’s a beast of a hunting knife, and that San mai came out awesome! My first San mai is my Viking build so that’s gonna look pretty sweet when it’s done!

    Was hammering wrought iorn into stock today and I noticed the blacksmith who worked it before me worked the bending too cold leaving fractures I welded most of them closed and one little peice was splitting like crazy and freying apart so I decided to weld the whole thing together.. I got the weld good and made some workable wrought iorn gonna work it more tomorrow and get some impurity’s out not sure what I’m gonna use it for but from folding the edges into itself to keep from splitting apart I imagine there’s gonna be some crazy grain on it once done
    ( I did this for all the ppl who say you can’t weld your ends and bits into workable wrought iorn & or that it’s not worth it.. it’s always worth it when you have some clean fresh wrought)

      This summer once I build my coal forge I’m gonna make a billet full of wrought iorn bits and weld them all together and make some new stock (my current forge vevor single burner can weld with 7psi it’s also not the heat as much as the person working it.. before I couldn’t weld steel lower than 10-15 so gonna go back and try it on 7 tmr

    A very timely video for me, as I will be starting a wrought go mai knife this morning. Hope mine comes out as well as yours! I'm going to etch mine before the glue-up and am curious about why you etched after you put the scales on. My way doesn't involve that cursed nail polish . . . .

    • @JPsBladeworks
      @JPsBladeworks  Před 2 měsíci

      Good luck. And i did it this way because i like to have my knives fully etched and its difficult to get the handle and knife flush all around the handle before etching. And it could lead to line up issues because of the tiny tolerance between the material and pins.

    The slag that's in wrought iron will dull a band saw blade almost immediately. Just always grind it or use a andle grinder to cut it. It seems it's only like that after you hot work it for some reason.

    The silica in the wrought iron is really hard on bandsaw blades…cutoff wheels on an angle grinder is your friend!

    Hi. Nice job man! I do not know what this "wrought iron" really is, but if it is just a raw iron, it doesn include any carbon, or other stuffs, so it doest get hardened no matter how hard you try to quench it. Of course you will get that nice looking by queinching, even if it doesnt get hard. But anyways, nice job! I like to watch your knife making videos. Pro!

      @JPsBladeworks  Před 2 měsíci

      Its old school mild steel from like 100+ years ago. Since the process isnt as good as it is today it had tons of impurities which give it that grain when etched.

    I see editing should be improved especially the transition of what you're doing. It jumps to another sequence skipping the details.
    Still a very good product of your craft.
