    I don’t know what it is about the early 80s, but I just love re-examining the pop culture. Unashamedly cheesy, refreshingly optimistic, even in the face of real world problems, and so many exciting new things just coming to people, like VCRs and CDs. I never get tired of going back to this era.

    • @thegreatwhodeeny1073
      @thegreatwhodeeny1073 Pƙed 2 lety +16

      There was a reason for the optimism. It was pretty much our country's peak. Yeah the 90s were pretty good as well but we were headed in a downward spiral afterwards.

      Our phones and the internet have made us less creative. Lots of people have mentioned it lately. Today it's all about TikTok(Yikes) etc. When these were made the creator actually put some originally thought into the commercial. Today it's nothing but copycats. Craig Fergerson talked about this in an interview. He won't use Social Media anymore and stays off his phone so he can come up with original material. Watching Commercials in real-time and only a few times is actually better. Just my opinion

      Yeah video game/arcade culture was incredible...the later generations will never understand it. The graphics were pretty basic but we were on the ground floor... building what would come later.

I also don't remember the blue Diet Dr. Pepper cans. And doesn't Telly Savalas look fly in his trenchcoat and red silk scarf? That man could wear clothes. And Gary Owens for Stick-Ups. I had no idea Dr. Pepper ever had blue cans.
    The commercial jingle was mostly dead by the time I could form lasting memories, but I appreciate the effort that went into them, even if a lot were cheesy. Nowadays, if an ad has music with lyrics, 9 times out of 10, it's either an already existing song, or some bad version of something in the public domain where they changed two or three words.
    Maybe it's a combination of the food ads and the fact the these videos usually drop around dinner time, but uploads on this channel make me hungry. It's weird.
