Ann holds her own in the rock world. To me, not only the best female rock singer of all time, but also one of the very best voices period. Crazy On You, Dog and Butterfly, Dreamboat Annie, Magic Man....of course Barracuda. I saw Heart 40 years ago in concert, Ann can caress your ears with her voice then rip them off. Anyway, you two make an old person feel proud of our era.

LZ was actually Heart’s inspiration and patterned their sound after them. Ann Wilson definitely was emulating Robert Plant’s vocal style, and the guitar riff is pretty much the bass line in “Achilles Last Stand”. Try that one next. Fair warning: it’s ten minutes long!!

This was like...35 years years before the Kennedy performance. Ann was 64 I believe at Kennedy. Heart was HUGE in late seventies....I wore out a couple of their cassettes in the car. Many hits. The Wilson sisters LOVED Zeppelin, and Jimmy, after hearing them do a Zeppelin cover in concert, gave them his blessing to cover whatever Zeppelin song they wanted because Ann could NAIL it. They often ended their concerts with a couple of Zeppelin covers. You should listen to their cover of Battle of Evermore. It’s fantastic and it’s available on CZcams. Here is a link to this amazing czcams.com/video/wShmbjqP3WU/video.html Barracuda was written about the music industry....a man trying to take advantage of a woman in order to further her career. A barracuda was a predator. Rock was a very hard genre for women back in the day. MORE HEART....you will love them....I second the request for Heart’s song Crazy On You next.

(9:23) I think the guitar sound that Juliet is describing is called hitting the harmonics. It is created by lightly touching the strings with your fretting hand and strumming with your other hand.
Guitar harmonics can be heard clearly on "Roundabout" by Yes (1971). I'd like to see your reaction to this song.

Some reactors just seem to go through the motions, but you two appear genuinely moved by hearing the music I grew up with and it's like I'm rediscovering it through your ears. Always a joy. "Mistral Wind" and "Alone" live. And "Crazy on You" live with the extended acoustic guitar intro. I've seen Heart a dozen times over the years and there is still nothing that hits me quite like Ann's voice. And every time I see them I am reminded of something else I stole from Nancy's guitar playing. I even stole her birthday, haha! Cheers, y'all!

Heart has SO MANY amazing songs! My favorites are Allies and Kick It Out, but there are tons. Ann and Nancy are phenomenal. I saw a documentary where they talked about this song. It was aimed at a rock journalist who wrote an article that implied that the sisters were actually in a romantic relationship with each other. That is where the line "if the real thing don't do the trick , you better make up something quick" came from. He made up that story just to sell more magazines. Clearly it made them mad...and it made them money, because the song was so good!

SUCH a great iconic classic tune, one of if not THE best hit from heart. This song was written about their manager in cahoots with the record label, they did a bunch of stuff to screw the Wilson sisters over...including fabricating a story of them being sexually involved with each other. A Barracuda is a mean predatory fish, very sleek and fast. Pretty sick stuff just to make an extra buck. Despite all that this tune is so awesome, the galloping riff being very addictive and as a drummer it's one of the most fun songs to play! Ann's voice is one of the best in the business, she's got some pipes!! If you ever see the movie Fast Times At Ridgemont High, Nancy Wilson appears in a cameo during one scene. • @SonicProfessor_a.k.a._T._Andra

This was one of the most, outstanding, solid bands of the day.
"Yes" to all the things you say,re: Ann's voice and vocal abilities [Nancy has done a few lead vocal turns in her time, as well. The '80s "comeback Heart" (a different band line-up ...although not entirely. Nancy, Ann and Howard Leese are, still, in the band, and Howard has taken over as the main/lead guitarist (from Roger Fisher, who you experienced, here)) song "These Dreams" has a lead vocal from Nancy (most famously).
Her first solo album: Live At McCabe's is well-worth searching out (I don't know how "findable" it is, these days, but: it is killer and it is in consistent rotation on ...whatever I have to play music on at any, given time. 😋🤘🤘), also!
...One thing you, definitely, need to pay attention to with Heart ['70s HEART] is: Michael DeRosier.
That's the drummer. He never got the full respect he deserved. He is SO in-the-pocket and on top of every groove !!!!
    His fills are SPECTACULAR!!!!!!
[I think that: Clem Burke (from: Blondie), Michael DeRosier and Albert Bouchard (formerly of: Blue Öyster Cult 🤘🤘) are three of the best and, also, most under-appreciated drummers in rock history. [Clem, I would argue, is, the most versatile and, possibly, the most skilled ...but ...Such things are impossible to "prove," outright. ...Just saying! 😜😜🤘🤘 😁😁]-]
...Some of DeRosier's best fills and parts are in classic Heart sings, too. "Barracuda" is GREAT; don't get me WRONG!; but go listen to him in: "Crazy On You" ...and "Magic Man" ...f'in spec-f'in'-tacu-LICIOUS!
(If I recall correctly, he "does some shiznit" in: "Sing Child" and "Devil Delight" also -but even if I'm "misremembering" a little: those songs kick ass, anyway. You will want to hear them [I guess those would fall under "deep cuts," nowadays, I suppose. ...Doesn't matter: They are fabulous. 🤘🤘 💜🧡])
-If you, really, want to hear HEART at their "top echelon" go listen to "Mistral Wind"
and, also, "Nada One" (from the Dog & Butterfly album). High-level stuff.
["Straight On", "Hijinx" and the opening cut "Cook With Fire" are the 'big songs' on that one ...and they are sweet ...but "Mistral Wind" (which is Nancy's favorite Heart song, if I remember correctly) is a song they STILL play live, to this day! 🤘🤘 - Everyone should know it!]
...Go listen to more Michael DeRosier (the fact that you get to hear Ann beautifying the place while he's doing it "doesn't hurt," either! 😉😋 🤘🤘 (And, believe it or not: there are even MORE spectacular (or equally as) female vocalists out there that you have never heard (yet)!!!! No joke!)
...oh and if you want to hear one of the most beautiful, heartfelt songs ever written, listen to a song entitled "Angels" by Heart.
Heart have a DEEP catalog ...and very few things in it will, ever, disappoint you or leave you feeling "dissatisfied." (That is a marker of greatness!; to be able to say that regarding a career of almost 50 years [I think 2021 would make 46 or 47 ...There were a few years of "hiatus" here & there, too so... but... -whatever: it is over 40 years of making great music! 🤘🤘 💙💙💙💜])

There are a couple songs from an old TV show they used to have on late at night in the 70s where artists played live called The Midnight Special. Look for Crazy on You and Magic Man. You can see how powerful Anne's voice was live! Plus the intro for Crazy on You showcases the guitar skills of Nancy! I think there was another live song they did on that show. Might have been Dreamboat Annie which was a deeper cut that fans of the band really like.

As a former gamer, I can honestly say, I put this song on loop when I played any NASCAR game, and raced on the super speedways like Daytona and Talladega.

I think I heard an interview with Heart where they were admitting they "borrowed" it too from Nazareths "this flight tonight" when being on tour with them.
You can also hear a similar one in the intro of Iron Maidens "El Dorado".

Barracuda was written as a response to their record company at the time that had started a rumor stating that Ann and Nancy were not just sisters, but lesbian lovers in a bid to drum up publicity for the band and their next release "Magazine". Ann says she was specifically angry at a music reporter who asked her backstage how her "lover" was. She thought he meant her boyfriend and the band's manager Michael Fisher, but he meant Nancy.
In the end, Heart was able to drop their then-current contract with Mushroom Records, stop production on Magazine (which Mushroom released in it's largely unfinished form) and signed with the CBS records subsidiary Portrait to release the album "Little Queen", from which this track comes.
You can really feel Ann's anger and frustration with the whole of the music business in the studio performance and in many of the early live performances of the song.

Both Ann & Nancy are amazing artists and they are right up in the top levels of musicianship. Loved them since I first heard them in 1975 or 1976. I saw them numerous times in the 70's and I expected that Ann's voice would bo a real powerhouse. I was shocked when I heard her. Not just the first time but every time. The sonic waves her voice released were tsunamis of power. Powerful but controlled in a remarkable way. Great choice ladies!

I saw these ladies on this tour waaaay back in 1977 for their Little Queen album. This song was released a month or two before I saw them in August. It was in a small arena of around 1,000-1,500 seats. I probably had the best seats in the house, except for front row on the floor, up in the front row, center balcony, was the best concert I'd seen until seeing Queen in 1980.
