There are a lot of people saying that the dance was bad, but they really need to educate themselves on what the dances mean and about the Geisha culture...
+Bink Bink Well, people with small minds can't be helped. You have intelligent people and dim witted ones. Just thank God He had His favor set upon us to understand the value and the logic behind other people's culture though very unique from our own. That compassion will be passed down through our bloodlines. Unfortunately for dumb people, they'll be weeded out by natural selection:); just as it has always been done.
Bad??? Would they be able to do the same only? Certainly not! Thus, what they may say isn't worth anything: this is just gossip and a sign of obvious stupidity.
This was a beautiful dance, and the music was perfect to accompany it. The elegance and grace of the Geisha is something than many can strive for, but only a few will ever attain.
@@mattmadill8668 Sorry, my English isn't perfect. I meant for western tastes, the musician may look better than the geisha. I still feel the "human doll" style of a geisha a little disturbing.
@@kuidelu Vous avez raison, le canon érotique de base au Japon est la femme-enfant. Je pense comme vous, même si je connais assez bien et j'adore le Japon par ailleurs.
If you still want to try a kimono and still have not, I recommend to seek for auctions on eBay. You can buy a quality kimono for just a couple of dollars because Japanese people tend to buy new things and that's why used kimonos are very cheap. A kimono for a geisha is rare and it can still cost over 100-300$, but a beautiful semi-formal made of silk kimono can be bought for 15-20$. I have once bought a stunning kurotomesode for 15$.
the kimono that this Geiko is wearing is called a hikizuri Kimono this type is only worn by geisha you can buy furisode hikizuri kimono or the normal hikizuri and their quite expensive the prices go up to $ 5 000
In fact the dance was excellently executed with meaning, emotion and precision. The musician played without flaw and provided the accompaniment to allow the dancer to convey the meaning of the dance.
I really hope that i get the chance to see a performance of something like this wow this is the real roots and also history beautiful history see this live it will be a unique experience
I just finished amazing autobiography by Mineko Iwasaki. Japanese dance requires years of practice since they are toddlers the same as any western dance.
i got this school project to do, we get to chose a country and do the culture of it. i chose dance, food and textile. the country i chose is Japan. and for food, i chose sushi. for textile, im gonna make a kimono, and for dance, im gonna do this dance. we have only one week to woke on the project, hopefully i can learn the dance and finish making the kimono on time.
you made a kimono by yourself without learning how it is done ?? i am curious to see it. do you have a picture? i have studied wasai, or traditional jaanese sewing technique for 15 years and i am not yet at the level of being able to make a geiko's kimono. my teacher started making geisha's kimono after learning wasai for 35 years
I think he said that cause her white face in the dark room and her misunderstood movements/dance can be quite scaring for those who don t know geiko... i guess ^^'
The song title means "four seasons of Kyoto". of course Kyoto was the old capitol of Japan. The lyrics depict different sights of the city and the dance moves flow with lyrics. Example in the beginning the lyrics sings about "higashi yama" which is a mountain, you can see she puts her hand up to shield her eyes as she looks up at to the mountain. there's alot of intricacies like this.
I have this one dream of visiting Japan only to see geisha. For me, Japanese girls are the most beautiful in the world. I whish i could marry one of them. From Brazil.
wait minute or so, do not by shamed o mighty , picose i,m creting the spirit of kimono, in european style, i,m mean new! look they fight they killthemself ,for this, this it,s not a joke to cost soo much.
At 1:36 the chick playing the shamisen glances up at the dancing geisha with this look on her face that positively screams "MISTAKE! YOU SCREWED UP! I SAW WHAT YOU DID THAR!" Lol.
Saku-chan You're right, still perfect - though the shamisen chick seemed to detect some flaw I didn't see a single misstep myself. I like the slow and deliberate movements of traditional Japanese dance, combined with the music it's quite elegant and very soothing :)
The dancer is a natori, which means a master of dance. This is also one of the first dances a maiko learns, so she would have danced it many many times. It is very unlikely that the dancer would have made a mistake on such a simple dance. The jikata (shamisen player) probably was looking up without too much notice to make sure both are in sync. But I do not believe that it is possible that the dancer made a mistake.
I know this too is an old comment, but I would have to humbly disagree her movements are slow methodical and laced with grace, she moves as if she is a ghost gracing us with one final dance, of her precious Kyoto.
Even though the dance is slow it still looks complicated
I am fascinated by the Japanese culture. I am a full Alaskan native, but I was raised by a full Japanese mother. (adopted) Thank you for sharing.

Its not bad with me, but very simple but good

I feel like the dance of geisha is supposed to be simple.
Focusing more on grace than anything.
This was a beautiful dance, and the music was perfect to accompany it. The elegance and grace of the Geisha is something than many can strive for, but only a few will ever attain.
F Jolliff well said!!
I think the dances are supposed to tell a story, but I could be wrong. My knowledge of the geishas is very limited.
No, you're right. The dances will show the lyrics meaning.
