    Cruise is and has been one of the rare actors who can go to any extent to make the character authentic. It is the preparation that makes the finished product so enjoyable.

    Les Grossman was by far Tom's best ever character purely because it took this guy we all knew as one of the best, serious actors of his generation and put him into a surreal comedy character and he utterly killed it. Of course he did.

      Some of the movies might not be all that great but his performances are always worth watching them.... even that Mummy film he did.
      Live/Die/Repeat or Edge of Tomorrow (whatever you prefer) is one of my absolute favorite films of all time.

    My best friend and I have a tradition where every single time we have a bro weekend we watch Tropic Thunder 1-2 times.
    Over a decade we have seen it roughly 250-300 times. I can attest to the fact that it's still funny to this day, especially Les Grossman.

    This film did so many wonderful things for Tom, Danny, and Robert. Tom was still on thin ice with the whole Oprah thing and showed a different side. Danny was an up and comer and proved he could hang with some big names. Robert was on his path back with Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes. This just showed how versatile they all are.

    I admit: I'm really NOT a Cruise fan. But Les Grossman was pure GENIUS! In the theatre, I NEW that was him right away...and it was so refreshing. He had never played a role like that before. I like when actors can break away from typecasting and deliver a completely unexpected performance. Another great example is Jennifer Aniston from "Horrible Bosses" (now I didn't see that coming!).
