I have the KSG and have shot at least 1000 shells through it. One thing that I was told early on was the tube selection switch eventually comes loose and fails like it did for you. I was advised to Loctite the selector switch screw. . I did this before any issues and I have never had any problems. I shoot everything from mini shells to 3". Many different types of ammo (brand name or cheap) with no problem. You are right it's one of the best designs I have come across. I have a shell carrier mounted on top that holds 10 shells. So with the 15 in the gun plus the shell carrier I have 25 shells on/in the gun. Fun to shoot.

this is the way keltec works in general. people just dont have any nuance. they're great for those who aren't turned off by needed to do basic gunsmithing work. but many people dont even clean their guns.
they have quirks. most guns do. but the ksg for example, is not adequate out of the box. it takes hundreds of dollars to get them in proper order (magazine upgrade, recoil mitigation, etc)
but once you have it all together, you have something as functional or better than any competitors at a lower price point. they're not for everyone. but they dont deserve the reputation they have AT ALL. good example in how memes genuinely influence people.

James, much like a good majority of weapon systems out there this weapon does indeed require a level of maintenance not really well known. Simply the selector lever is held in place by a hex head screw and will over time walk itself out.
You can’t loctite it because it does need to move freely to actuate the tube selection. That being said I personally own one of these and do indeed following about every hundred rounds or maybe even fifty, take an Allen key and tighten it down.
The KSG just basically needs that level of care sir. Cheers.

I love my KSG. I have a muzzle brake, vertical fore grip and a big cushy butt pad for more comfortable shooting. I also have the extended tube selector so you can switch tubes with your wrist and not take the gun off target (should be standard).
It shoots everything, but load it with mini-shells and you get about 20 rounds of soft shooting fun and joy. I had a malfunction at around 200 rounds, an odd double feed that might be due to pumping too fast (an issue I have often in many areas of life). I'm looking forward to my next day of Shotguns Therapy.

I do love my other Kel-tec firearms (the RDB-S) is my favorite 5.56 bullpup, and the PLR-16 is a ludicrous but great backpack gun. But i've had concerns with certain aspects of the KSG design given the stresses of a pump action on some of the failure points that are unique to the KSG.
If course... this now begs the question as to whether the ks7 solves this problem by not having offset magazines but losing the main benefit of the ksg.

@@roundrock63 thats why i wanted to include my own experience. Many gun reviewers will say "this is a sample size of 1" good or bad they get a single one to try. Everything made can have lemons. Mine has never had the selector switch problem they had. I have had it puke an extra round out but its rare and random. I've had a double feed once or twice which really f's things up but it's fixable without any tools or special tricks. In my research and experience the ksg likes to be well lubed and man handled. It can be dirty but it shouldn't be dry and you gotta rack the thing with authority. Every time it's racked you're depressing both shell catches which uses a piece of spring steel in the system. That takes some effort to do and thats the area i polished a little bit and then used a synthetic grease instead of oil. It smoothed it out a good bit. It also benefits from being broken in as the shell tubes new felt gritty and somewhat tough to load shells. But now that i have a few hundred through it the black coating has smoothed out and now everything just works a little better. The fix they did was a top notch upgrade. The linkage bars going from the trigger to the hammer resemble a pair of ladder rungs. Original design had the ends of the cross pins center punched to mushroom them out and retain the link bars. Mine managed to unmushroom one end of a pin allowing the link bar to come off and dick it all up. The new one has the cross pins tig welded to the link bars completely eliminating that from happening again.

I say mostly because everyone I know has one or two different issues, but none are similar with respect to our sample size of 7 KSGs. Which leads me to believe the real issue is quality control at the factory. One thing I would recommend would be to use a vertical grip or at least a hand stop. I actually haven't had any problems with mine. Maybe I'm just lucky. But, it has worked perfectly for me.

KSG is that one wacky goth girlfriend who might be different, might have her issues yet she is always tons of fun. I am sad that KSG failed, yet still love mine more than both my benelli m4 and 1301.

I know people ask you all the time, but I’d love to see you run the KSG in one of these burn downs.
