LeBron doesn't jump as high or dunk the ball nearly as much as he use to in his career. His athleticism has definitely declined throughout his career, he just improved other aspects of his game so that he can still play at a high level without relying on his physical gifts as much. The thing he does the best is exploit mismatches. He will always be faster and more coordinated than centers and tall defenders, so he can drive by them and get to the basket, because they need to respect his jumpshot (which he has perfected throughout his career, contrary to folks like Zion and Ben Simmons who had similar, if not more athletic gifts). When smaller defenders are on him he just uses his strength and bullys his way and either shoots a turnaround mid range or drop steps for a layup

I'm a cycling fan, and when I hear the "1.5 million dollars per year on his body" line trotted out, it makes me think of cyclists talking about "marginal gains" etc. to explain away their superior performances. I mean, how much can a good diets, workout regimens or even cryotherapy chambers really do to fight against Father Time?
My best guess is that Lebron uses products that are borderline, and thus NOT illegal. Not a bodybuilder's trenbologna sandwich, but rather low level testosterone and salbutamol on some kind of therapeutic use exemption, or maybe more experimental things like bovine colostrum (very speculative I'll admit!). the whole $1.5 million he spends on his body annually isn't just about squeezing out tiny advantages. We're talking about a whole ecosystem of professional health and fitness support here. This includes expert trainers, physios, nutritionists, and some of the best recovery tech out there. It's a lot more comprehensive than just hitting the gym or eating right.
Also, I think it's a bit of a stretch to compare basketball with cycling. Sure, both are sports, but they're worlds apart in terms of physical demands and, let's be honest, their histories with PEDs.
And about the speculation on LeBron using 'borderline' products - it's a slippery slope to go down without concrete evidence. It's one thing to be skeptical; it's another to make assumptions. LeBron, like any athlete, is subject to regular drug testing, and without any actual proof, it's just speculation.
I believe it's fair to give credit to LeBron for his discipline and commitment to his health and fitness. I mean, combating Father Time isn't just about magic pills or secret formulas - it's about dedication, hard work, and making the most of the resources you have, and he has endless.

People act like you turn 35 and your body turns to glass. What the issue really is is that traditionally guys just started resting on their laurels and would skip workouts because they'd paid their dues. Now, the guys who are really dedicated, like James and Curry, keep up with all the conditioning that most guys don't. It's going to be difficult to keep top-end speed into your late 30s but most of the game doesn't depend on that. You can keep the vast majority of your endurance and skill until well into your 40s if you work at it.

His stats looks the same when he was in his absolute peak prime and this is clearly because how the league has changed since around the mid 10's. Still was he's doing is impressive, especially because this year he's looking like the better version of himself since the 2020 bubble. Now how suspicious is impossibile to say but throughout his career there has been other moments where he looked off and then after some break he came back like a totally different player, also the speed on which his body react and recover after injuries is incredibile too. For sure he's a freak of nature and invested a lot on his shape but clearly some suspicious come to mind.

Hell, without even speculating on PED usage, Lebron James longevity can be attributed to his not playing hard on both sides of the court, the league continually getting softer and easier, and the officiating becoming highly suspect. I have another question. How can someone who is supposed to be in such great shape be constantly acting like he’s dying when he gets “fouled”?

  • @Relbl
    @Relbl Před 5 měsíci

First of all, he came out of high school so he's 3-4 years younger than those other cats (except Kobe, but Kobe's achilles tear was what finished him).
Second, are you watching him play? The guy can't shoot to save his life and his points are lay-ups and bail-out foul calls.
Third, he's not active on the floor. He'll sit out beyond the 3 on offense and just stand there and similarly is just watching stuff happen on defense. His rebounds are all defensive and they fall in his laps while his teammates do the boxing out or create the space. I'll give him his assists though they usually come off broken plays where he still finds the open dude.
Fourth, the guy looks tired CONSTANTLY despite not being super active.
I don't mean to rag on the guy, but A) him being top-10 today doesn't pass the eye test -- it's media pushing it and surface stats telling half the story, and B) he's not half as active as Kobe or Jordan or Carter or Duncan at that age. Do I think maybe once or twice he used a 'therapy' that wasn't strictly legal? Probably, but not since before the bubble era. That bubble chip really cemented in his mind that he doesn't have to go out and push the envelope like that, ie that his legacy is secured and padding stats and staying uninjured will leave no doubt to being GOAT... in his mind.

I am the opposite of you in my reasoning, the fact that he has played sooooo long is what kills him, he still is not as decorated as Mike who played significantly fewer seasons at this point
My criteria is very extensive for the NBA GOAT, and much more stringent than most, that criteria is as follows,
*Required to be in GOAT conversation:(15 boxes to check)
    •10+ Playoff Appearances
    •4+ Conference Finals Appearances
    •3+ NBA Finals Appearances
    •2+ Championships
    •2+ Finals MVP
    •1+ Regular Season MVP
    •10+ All NBA Teams(1st,2nd,3rd)
    •Make an All-Rookie Team(1st,2nd)
    •12+ All Star Appearances
•10+ Additional Awards on top of all that
•Have to be the star player(1A at worst)
•Have to hold an NBA record
•Top 25 All Time in Playoff Win Shares
    •First ballot HOF(or future)
    •Check 60%+ of total boxes(50, 35 to go)
Those 15 alone cut you down to 10 players ever that can check all of those boxes, 2 more that can check every box but Finals MVP and All-Rookie Team... because they didn't exist yet or early enough, but hit everything else, you should be able to guess who those 2 are lol, they are the only 2 who can say that, those 12 players set themselves apart from the rest, next category is stuff that most of those 12 check, but not all of them on anything, some are increased requirements from stuff already in there to knit pick between them,
    *Commonalities:(15 boxes)
    •Win ROY(9/12)
    •Make an All Defensive Team(10/12)
•Win an All Star Game MVP(10/12)
    •Make more than 5 All NBA 1st Teams(10/12)
•Win back to back NBA MVP(9/12)
    •Back to back Championships(9/12)
    •3+ Championships(9/12)
    •Have a .500+ Record in the Finals(10/12)
    •Average a Career Double-Double(8/12)
    •Be Top 25 in Total Win Shares(11/12)
    •Be Top 25 in Points(9/12)
    •Be Top 25 in PPG(8/12)
    •Be Top 25 in Playoff Points(11/12)
    •Be Top 25 in PER(10/12)
    •Be Top 25 in Box Plus/Minus(8/12)
Last category is stuff no more than half of those 12 players have, and in all but 3 cases, it is 45% or less, to really knit pick, we get full blown on the increased requirements, heavier focus on defense, last of the list,
    *Rarities:(20 boxes)
    •Top 25 in RPG(6/12)
    •Top 25 in APG(2/12)
    •Top 25 in SPG(2/10)
    •Top 25 in BPG(5/12)
    •Top 25 in MPG(5/12)
    •Top 25 in Playoff PPG(5/12)
    •Top 25 in Defensive Box Plus/Minus(3/10)
    •50-40-90 Season(2/12)
    •Threepeat NBA MVP(3/12)
    •5+ NBA MVP(3/12)
    •Threepeat Championships(4/12)
    •5+ Championships(6/12)
    •Win DPOY(2/10)
    •Win multiple scoring titles(5/12)
    •Win a rebounds title(4/12)
    •Win an assists title(3/12)
    •Win a steals or blocks title(4/10)
    •Make more than 5 All Defensive 1st Teams(3/11)
•Win multiple All Star Game MVP(6/12)
    •Win a Slam Dunk or 3 Point contest(3/12)
😅 if you're still reading congrats, and thanks lol, here are the 12 players that meet all requirements available to them and where they rank in terms of percentage of possible boxes checked ✅️ in ascending order:
    12)Hakeem Olajuwon(30/50; 60%)
    T-10)Kevin Durant(31/50; 62%)
    T-10)Larry Bird(31/50; 62%)
    T-8)Kobe Bryant(32/50; 64%)
    T-8)Magic Johnson(32/50; 64%)
    T-6)LeBron James(33/50; 66%)
    T-6)Tim Duncan(33/50; 66%)
    T-4)Shaquille O'Neal(35/50; 70%)
    T-4)Bill Russell(28/40; 70%)
    3)Kareem Abdul-Jabbar(36/50; 72%)
    2)Wilt Chamberlain(30/41; 73%)
    1)Michael Jordan(42/50; 84%)
As expected... MJ is the GOAT, not expected, the gap between him and number 2... is the biggest gap on the list, he is on a level all his own, and it gets more obvious the longer you look 🤷‍♂️💯

Kevin Durant suffered what would be a career ending injury (Ditto Paul George). Curry's type of ankles derailed Grant Hill's prime because the treatment available to Steph wasn't available to Grant. The only anomaly I can think of from those earlier eras was Terrell Owens in football. The amount of training and the advances in training/medical science in 40 years, as well as the amount of advancement should be taken into account, along with luck (LeBron seems to have that).

@@And.One.Hoops1 I mean Brady was in mid 40s. I get it, most other sports don't require contact like basketball. But I was just saying that those athletes are exceeding longevity expectations in their own sports, and thus LeBron exceeding expectations in his own sport is not as surprising as if Michael Jordan was doing this in the 90s. Not trying to compare across different sports, just comparing how the athletes are performing within their own sport.

@@And.One.Hoops1 I mean, you're splitting hairs here. No one is saying Brady's job demanded the athleticism of an NBA player to thrive, but being a contending starting QB at that age used to be unheard of. What changed.. health science/technology and what an athlete has at their disposal as far as personal chefs, trainers, and recovery. Michael Jordan came back from being out of the league for THREE YEARS at 38 and was dropping 23 a night. Why would you think that wouldn't take a jump two decades later from someone who never retired? Gotta say, I love your channel but this video is creeping into clickbait territory and I hope that it isn't a preview of where your content is headed.

Again, it’s more the minutes and time played over the course of his career. Brady is incredible and is another story of longevity that defies science, but Brady isn’t putting in the amount of time on the field as Lebron is with 16 games per season compared to 82. I don’t think it’s splitting hairs at all. Sports medicine and advances in tech aside, this is unprecedented

  • @high-defRJ

Let's take in a few things that's on the side for LeBron/Kobe. They have 3-4 extra years on other players who have started the career after college or was an upperclassmen in the time of the draft. I think prep-to-pro and one-and-done players might have a longer career of those before 2000s.
They have starting early on their part to have a longer career, in addition to the training regimen and medicine/supplements that can help with their bodies. And with the load management, it's a rarity now where a player is available to play 78-82 games a season. LeBron have played two-thirds of a season for the past few years like a good handful of players have.
And the game being soft, not physical on defense or lack there of, LeBron has that on his side too.
Would he be able to play this long if he had played 78-82 games a season for majority of his career? Most likely, but not 20 plus seasons.

Even PEDs don’t explain it. If you believe Lebrons on PEDs ( and almost 100% is) you’d be extremely naive to not believe more than likely every single other professional athlete is as well. What he’s doing is beyond just PEDs, he’s gifted unlike possibly any other athlete we have ever seen.

I don’t think is using PED’s but he does have access to the best league-acceptable medications money can buy. Also: I think one thing that separates LeBron from almost every other superstar athlete is his life away from the court. He doesn’t seem to party, not at clubs post-game every night, he doesn’t seem to be a womanizer (although even if he was, sexual health can possibly contribute to athletic conditioning - a workout’s a workout, yo) and doesn’t seem to drink excessive alcohol or eat processed foods/sugars. He isn’t stressed by constant contract negotiations or trade rumors - only losing (and being obsessed with getting his flowers) truly bothers him. He is political only occasionally but not an overt activist. He isn’t blowing his money on strip clubs and gambling - he invests wisely and lets his money make him more money. He doesn’t work as hard on defense, so maybe that’s a negative. But I think his longevity is due to him being a man at peace with himself, more than anything else. Peace of mind is a hard-earned advantage in life, and it isn’t given the credit it deserves.

People act like "miles on the body" is some kind of a problem, but it's not. The real problem is stopping your training regimen and having to rebuild those muscles when you're older. Lebron maintains his body throughout the off-season so he doesn't have to push his body to get back into the game like Jordan had to through retirement or Kobe had to due to achilles injury. Lebron's been able to avoid any serious injuries through luck/strength/skill, which also means he can maintain his body at a high level all year long.
His natural size and athleticism are also major factors in that he doesn't have to push his body as hard as Jordan and Kobe in order to keep performing. Jordan was putting up pretty big numbers at 39-40, it's just that he couldn't keep his knee healthy. That kind of break down will eventually happen to Lebron, as well, but maintaining his conditioning all year helps to prevent the kind of knee damage Jordan experienced from starting in the first place.

Maybe, just Maybe...the man is just that good and that spectacular of an athlete. Maybeee he just had the highest peak of any player ever. Maybe he is just arguably the greatest/best athlete in all of sports history. I know its hard to comprehend because its so diabolic but all of the signs that set the foundation for this level of longevity from him have been present from a longtime ago. His speedy recovery from ankle injuries or his ability to shake something like bending his ankle off. His minutes have been piling up to unprecedented numbers a longtime ago. There has never been a player with the combination of size, strength and speed in the history of the game so it makes sense that he has longevity like no one in the history of the game. The things that can make someone suspicious of lebrons longevity was available to every and any nba superstar. all of them are and were rich and able to have access to whatever enhancement supplements anyone thinks Lebron has taken. MAYBE he is simply, just this great. just maybe though

The players were physical back then. These players don’t even sweat. Great players were fouled harder and more often. No one touches Lebron. He also has only played one full 82 game season. He’s games consist of using his body to run people over and swing his elbows and knees. So his longevity is no secret, it’s plain as day.
