You mentioned bug swarms stopped filming of the movie and I instantly knew it was the lovebug (Plecia nearctica). I lived there for ten years. The bugs swarm twice a year and are mostly harmless. Nice job on researching filming locations.
The music is beautiful in Edward Scissorhands and it's among one of my favorite Tim Burton movies with Nightmare Before Christmas Even though he didn't direct it he did write it also big fish was good Sweeney Todd was good Charlie and the Chocolate Factory his version was good because it follow the book 90% instead of the original that went 45%. Also in my opinion this is actually the first movie that truly launched Johnny Depp's career and probably his first movie with Tim Burton which helped his career out a lot
This movie and Thriller introduced me to Vincent Price. In that order. As a kid I had no idea that kindly inventor who's death made me sad, was one of the most iconic scary men in the world. But the fact that he started out with scary roles and ended his career and life with a role opposite of that, while still being immersed in a slightly horror and macabre fuelled world, is a very interesting thing indeed.
Minty it was filmed in and around Lakeland Florida for your info, also the bugs you were talking about are called Love bugs. I was living there when filming happened and you're right on the money.

Heart felt film. Depp did a great performance. As you noted, very little dialogue for his charcater. So he had to 'act' out the emotion through facial expressions and body language, He did a great job.
I'm not a Johnny Depp fan. But I do love Winona Ryder. This movie makes a good Christmas movie and a good Halloween movie. I even like the freaky hedge sculptures. One of my favorite scenes is when peg shows Edward scissorhands around the house. And when Kim meets Edward scissorhands for the first time.
5 years later Depp and Crispin Glover had a short scene together in the gorgeous "Dead Man". While Glover wasn't bullying Depp, he certainly was incredibly strange and ominous.

Great video. The ending commentary about people in their differences... I have absolutely no problem with people celebrating the differences, I will be the first person in line to defend somebody is right to express themselves and be different as it worth... When people expect special dispensation based on their differences, that's where I draw the line
This was awesome! If you look at the Michael Jackson/ Janet Jackson "Scream" video, you can definitely see the Edward Scissorhands vibe. I think it would have worked with MJ, but it was definitely movie magic with Johnny Depp. Great job, Minty!
Vincent Price technically had ONE more performance after Edward Scissorhands. He provided the English narration for Phantom Manor at Disneyland Paris (then called Euro Disneyland). They removed it not long after opening in 1992, but it was restored in 2019 when the ride underwent a massive refurb. Also a little fun fact. The shopping center featured in the movie is in Lakeland, FL. I’ve visited it several times but never made the connection other than thinking it seemed really familiar until I saw the movie again awhile back and it clicked... and subsequently blew my mind.
Until "Edward...", Depp was known mostly as a TV teen idol from the original "21 Jump Street" on the Fox network. He'd done John Waters' "Cry Baby", but the public really didn't think of him as a movie star or as a serious actor.
People are always afraid of what they don't understand, they take advantage of the oddball and mock, belittle and use them for their own selfish ends. Life is difficult, especially for those who don't quite fit into the niches of society's understanding, expectations and limited thinking capability. We're all Edward at some point in life, maybe even an entire life time but there is always good in even the bad. All this is portrayed well in the film, one of my favorites.
Michael Jackson actually has at least one pair of those 'scissor hands' in his movie memorbillia collection in a giant and soulless warehouse. #RIP #VincentPrice #MJ

It was Johnny Depp's idea for his character not to speak so much. He originally had more lines.

I actually live near where they filmed this movie in and it is also my favorite Tim Burton movie. I live like 20 mins from the shopping plaza they filmed at in Lakeland, FL. let me know if you want a picture of the front of it. It's a pretty iconic landmark here! Also, I love your channel!
Loved this movie before watching this, but man do I love it even more after your video. It’s so personal and has so much soul. What a masterpiece
Great video. The ending commentary about people in their differences... I have absolutely no problem with people celebrating the differences, I will be the first person in line to defend somebody is right to express themselves and be different as it worth... When people expect special dispensation based on their differences, that's where I draw the line
Wow! My favorite episode so far Minty!!!!! Cheers from Las Vegas Nevada mate!!!!!
Wow Johnny Depp had to convince Burton to put him in a role in his movies?
Mind blown moment right there.lol
Until "Edward...",
Depp was known
mostly as a TV teen idol
from the original "21 Jump Street"
on the Fox network.
He'd done John Waters' "Cry Baby",
but the public really didn't
think of him as a movie star
or as a serious actor.
Thanks Minty, honestly I had kind of forgotten about this movie. Thanks for the heartfelt reminder :)
Excellent video, feels a bit more in depth and heartfelt than usual, your love of the movie really comes through
The look on his face when he pops the waterbed!!!
"I thought this was shish kabob." 🤣🤣🤣
Great video! Awesome new information regarding a classic that I love! Been binge watching your videos! :D
Love your videos man ! Edward Scissorhands is one of my all time favorites !!

Love Edward Schissorhand!
As being on the spectrum growing up, you so can identify with Edward.
About Crispin Glover: Don't forget he actually got to play Johnny Depps bully later on in Tim Burtons Alice in Wonderland! 😅
Classic! This was thee 1st movie to make me shed a tear over a complexed character as Edward Scissor Hands!
As child I cry to this movie and now is an adult I still cry😢
So glad it wasn't a musical!
Oh yeah. This movie didn't need any singing.
Keep em coming! Another great job MINTY!
I remember hating this movie the first time i saw it. The ending had me in tears. I had to watch again to appreciate how much I related with Edward.
I love your channel!!
Just wanted to point out that Anthony Michael Hall was the nerdy kid in '16 Candles' (that's the movie that pic was from) not 'Pretty in Pink.' Jon Cryer was the nerd in 'Pretty in Pink.'
Keep up the great work!!!
Thanks again Mindy, another great informative video
I'm a little behind about watching all these 10 facts about movies from the Minty Channel but I really enjoy them. I've been watching them for about a year now...good job minty channel!!!!
Omg I love this movie so much. Thank you for covering it on your channel Minty. I can't imagine anyone else but Johnny Depp playing the role of Edward Scissorhands, it would have turned out totally different and probably not as successful as it did. Have a Merry Christmas and happy new year Minty!
I bet Edward assisted Minty by using his scissorhands to cut and edit the details of this video.
