Is the Glock 48 the New "Do Everything" Glock?

  • After a (mostly) glowing review of the Sig P365 XL, I'm taking a look at its closest competitor: the Glock 48. The G48 (along with the G43X) is threatening to take the place of the G19 as the Goldilocks go-to mid-sized 9mm Glock. The availability of 15-round aftermarket magazines from Shield Arms has made it an even more viable option for many Glock fans. But does the G48 really deserve to take over the title of the "do everything" Glock? As usual, the answer is complicated.

      @@clutchcargo1239 The point of these magazines is that they're not oversized, they just fit more rounds in the same given space (and may be slightly heavier since they're made of mostly metal). So I think it absolutely would be a hit, I love having more rounds in a flush fitting magazine and I'm certainly not alone in that.

Ergonomics are fine by me, I know some folks have issues with them, but I switch between Glocks and my CZ's all the time (all my CZ are metal frame 75 variants, usually shooting a TSO) or a 1911/2011 variant. Honestly, when you go from hammer-fired to striker-fired, all the striker-fired pistols feel like crap, some are just worse than others. Glocks I can usually make "tolerable" with a $15 spring kit and an hour of polishing. I'm also in the minority that I like the Glock sites for what they are, a defensive pistol. But I make no mistake, a Glock is a good defensive pistol and I can shoot them good enough to stop a bad guy, but they are NOT competition pistols. Besides, who would want a competition pistol, you would end up shooting the baddie in the same hole 5 times, the Glocks make sure I spread the love...

I'm in a 10 rd only state, so this is perfect for me as a "do it all gun". @bradkeeney5236 Před 4 lety +1

    Really appreciate your review! One thing I think you said that made me back up and listen to it again is I believe you put words on why I can’t shoot the 43X as well as I can the 43 as well as I can the 26. The shorter distance to the trigger makes me pull off target more with the 43 but with an extended magazine like an ETS9 round it fits my hand perfectly. There’s literally no change in the shape of my grip whatsoever from full relaxed to full pressure. This is not something I experience with the 26 which has the exact same silhouette. But then you mentioned that the thin grip of the 43 and 43X, or in your case the 48, makes you keep a tighter grip on the gun and if you get sloppy at all it moves around in your hand, and I think that’s exactly what happens to me. I am blessed with a friend who has a range where we can fire from drawing and moving and even shoot at 90° angles and drilling those guns there I lose about 15% efficiency with the 43 in about 30% efficiency with the 43X. Thank you for explaining that! And for anyone else who doubts the trigger placement I would also ask them to try and go from a index finger position to putting their finger on the trigger while holding the sights on target and see if they don’t notice that they end up moving more with a 43 then they do with the 26. I have lasers so it’s easy for me to see how much more I move with those smaller framed closer triggered 43 and 43X guns.

    New sub to your channel. Great content and commentary. I carry a G23. I had a Sig P239 but could never shoot it as accurately as the 23. Every shooter is different so I’m glad we all have choices.

    *_Wow!_*
    _Did anyone see that atmospheric cone at the __8:24__ mark?_
    It was right after the third shot of the 'Failure Drill'. This is equivalent to the "Mach Cone" that occasionally appears around jet fighters racing through the air at obscene speeds.
    That was quite the rare phenomenon that you caught on camera - and while on land too! _Impressive!_
    Keep up the good work my friend.

      I think that may have just been the concussion blast from the gun activating the automatic vibration reduction sensor on the camera.

    Glock needs to design a new mag that will eliminate that inside liner so it can hold more rounds and make it compatible with older Glocks. It would be a game changer against the competition

    I had a 48 for a little while, but I couldn't draw it consistently because the grip was thinner than I am use too and quickly gripping was difficult (I'm a fairly average-sized male). So the G26 came back and the G48 went away. Also didn't like that the mags are basically incompatible with everything, which is a Glock strength point. I can take a G18 mag stuff into my G26, G19x, or PCC. If I take away Glock mag compatibility, I feel like there are better carry guns than Glocks in general, at least for nonLEO carry.

    I seriously think you make the best pistol-related videos on CZcams. The Honest Outlaw probably comes in close second. It’s really an un-shilled comparison of different pistols with some quantitative and qualitative input that prospective gun owners need to hear. That said, the Glock 48 with the Shield Arms mag has left me in a quandary. Like everyone else in the world of concealed carriers, I carry a Glock 19 daily. It’s getting harder and harder to ignore the G48. I carry with a weapon mounted light so my current hold out excuse for not buying the G48 is that there aren’t (in my opinion) viable weapon mounted lights for it yet. However, the G48 Rail is currently available in Europe so maybe it’ll make its way across the Atlantic and then I’ll be out of excuses not to try out the G48 as a replacement for my beloved G19.

      None of the double stack frames would benefit from what Shield Arms did. Maybe the 36, 42, or 43 could stagger-stack like the 43X/48 with OEM mags.

      @mk45gunnr25 Před 4 lety

      I read in an interview with the Shield Arms guy that they are working on G43 mag and that it should be a flush fit 9 or 10 round magazine. Glock really needs to partner with these guys. It would push all their platforms back to way in the front of the pack. Figure a 50% increase in glock mags...so a G17 mag would hold 25 flush fit? Wow

    • @tomisamish
      @tomisamish Před 4 lety

      @@timewave02012 I wouldn't be so sure about that. The difference between Springfield xD mags and xdm mags is a mm or two of width, and about 4 rounds more capacity with the same overall length. Shield arms might be able to make a 19 round glock 19, which would be pretty cool.

      As a Non-glock guy, I've been eyeing up the 48 for about a week now. It may be because my PPS broke and I've had nothing for over a week, but it seems like the 48 is a good pistol, and I had a brief chance to put a small around of lead through one and it didnt seem so bad.

    Really good video . Like it a lot. I have small hands so guessing maybe the 48 may be a little better for me. Have shot Glocks for well over 30 years and used to have a job where I had to qualify every 90 days and all ways did well. Wondered how I would do if gun fit my hand, ha, ha. Thanks again A on your video.

    I currently purchased a G17 and G20. Thinking of getting the 43x as an everyday concealment option. I like the full size gun for home defense or camping/ hiking protection of the 10mm. The 43x would fulfill the everyday carry option and the others would be for more specialized situations. I like having 1 platform to learn and the no nonsense of striker fired semi autos. I figured if 9mm or 10mm wouldn’t cut it, then a pistol is no longer the right option. I have rifles and shotguns for things a pistol won’t handle. Thanks for the great video.

    I bought a 48 early on, but ended up preferring to keep my G43 slide mounted on it (6 o'clock carry) due to lighter weight. The S15 magazines have been AWESOME. Major power in a light, slim package. Any metal mag release works fine with the S15 mags. My fav Glock ever.

    Great review Chris! Not that you sound like you are to interested in switching to the 48 but if you sent it over Boresight solutions and had Ben do a grip job and stipple, they eliminate the hump so it has more of a 1911 grip angle and the gun points more flat without having to can’t your wrist, it would eliminate that area that prints so much for you! Ben and staff do fantastic work as I absolutely love my Gen 5 19 they did for me.
