I was lucky to see these guys perform at the Berklee School of Music in 1987! I’ll never forget the incredible pulse of the rhythm section. Blue Matter was a game changer! Scofield is such a badass - he goes places most guitarists only dream about…
I feel ya Sir. Saw them in ‘87 during a blizzard (almost didn’t go). Was going expecting to see Omar Hakim on drums…. Was introduced to the great Dennis Chambers…. We were all shell shocked. The entire band killed it that night
The version of 'Trim' on Dennis Chambers drum instruction video used to be my favorite, until I seen this. I'm so happy this was suggested to me tonight 🤘🏼
I listened to the live broadcast of this performance from the congress hall on Polish radio and I was enchanted, above all, by the wonderful playing and sound of the bass, as well as by the entire incredibly well-coordinated band - arrangements, articulations, great compositions, especially the sound of all the instruments - simply powerful for 1986 the sound after 37 years is still the same, maybe with less emotion, but everything sounds perfect and flawless
@@johanponin8680 As for bands playing jazz fusion at that time, I don't remember, only from the festival itself I remember two great concerts, one acoustic jazz performed by Herbie Hancock and blues by B.B. King, maybe one of the mentioned musicians performed at jam sessions in klub because there was an annual tradition of playing until the morning. for jam sessions
This power trio is missing Mitchel Forman who played on the studio recording, but the keyboard substitute is no slouch. I could write a lot cuz I really like what Sco, not only composed, but also gathered together.. Chambers and Grainger.. No one on this planet is gonna argue what I'm gonna say.. YA AIN'T GONNA GET A BETTER RHYTHM SECTION! John, having played w/ Miles, Jaco.. and such a wealthy background, vocabulary, authentic sound, technique.. and yes, brilliant composer. I know he said he wrote Trim after having been on some trip, or vacation where he had heard a lot of pop music... JUST CREAM OF THE CROP! this music is! YA AIN'T GONNA find anything BETTER, or more well crafted than this bunch.. Well, honestly I miss Forman here.. His piano solo on the studio version just f@cking glides over the changes....

Both Dennis Chambers and Gary Grainger are absolutely locked in and off the hook.
I saw those two with Mike Stern and Bill Evans a little over a year ago. They are still awesome.
all at its best. The ability of chambers to play what he wants to...is wow....
been listening to Pick Hits live since late 80’s what a great tune
I was there! It was another day of festival and audience was little bit tired due to excess of music and party and then this. We all went crazy!!

Really this is what Scofield does best! So glad to have been around when he was hitting his stride.
i cant stop playing this...they are locked in!!!!! Chambers and the bassist are untouchable! the composition of that main theme is just remarkable

Infernal, sacré Scofield.. avec ces partenaires, ça déboîte !

Pretty cool that the radio put that on air. Were there other jazz fusions concerts on this at the time ?

@@waldemarbieniak8689oh i see it was about the whole festival, not scofield per se

The beasts
Ibanez As200 Japanese Gibson rip that’s actually sick!
Best part starts at 14:43
I think the best part starts from 0:00 till 15:18.
A drummer enyoing his job while meditating over the cheap beer prices in Poland.
Did you guys saw his single strokes?
I looked Japan gig in this member, but I thought lack a sense of tension this gig...
Who is the keys player?
Robert Aries .
Very Miles Davis
No it's not. You tripping
@@Basskat100 Not me
Sad out of sync sound/picture but Great performance.
It’s a different keyboardist-Robert Aries I think
I don't agree. This live performance is great
Lots of drug were involved in this
you don't know that!!!
@@pgonzo98 its the 80s. Musicians snorted coke directly from their instruments as pay for gigs
yep. there sure was. it's just a fact.
