If you can remember, they also did something very similar to the Marco Polo 2nd season on Netflix. It was largely dominated by a feminist agenda and characters, while Marco Polo was busy playing a more auxiliary role attempting to learn martial arts and getting clobbered every time. The women were the dominant characters with all the bravery, smarts and physical prowess. Not to mention how anti Euro Christian the theme was. In fact the same female Asian actress in the Witcher was in Marco Polo second season. I think when you see her in a Netflix series, you know what’s up. Re: Prequels & Origins - As much as it's an idea I don't think it's a good one, mystery is a good thing in storytelling & trying to make stories out of the entirety of the lore rarely works out well. It's better to leave it vague & let the fans imagine for themselves, debate & have their theories about the origins of the Witchers, what & how the Conjunction of the Spheres came about, etc.
As for the Hollywood lot learning from this mistake, they don't care as they're like locusts or vultures and once they're done with a franchise they simply move on to the next likely target. The only way they would take it seriously would be if there were actual (career) consequences for tanking a promising franchise, it would have to cost them their career or at least harm their prospects, but it doesn't seem to & they even get celebrated in the press while everything burns down around them.

You have no idea how much I wanted this show to succeed. I'm a major Witcher fan, I've read the books probably 20 times, I have the books as audio books so when I'm working I can listen to them as well. Henry Cavill as Geralt was a home run, he's such a good actor and like me he truly cares about the source material and has not only read the books but he's played the games. Yes the games changed things but they didn't ruin the story, they just added their own spin to some of it and that's to be expected. I mean you follow Geralt in the games at all times so that's a huge plus. I liked every scene with Henry Cavill in season 1 and 2. He really did a good job getting the mannerisms of Geralt down, the seriousness of Geralt, you could even see Henry brought the internal fight Geralt has with feeling emotion. This show could have been so amazing had they just stuck to 2 things 1) the show should have followed Geralt and no one else, they characters should only be on screen when in Geralts presence, and 2) stick to the source material as best you can to include monster hunting. There's sooooo much good drama, thrilling times, and great stories in the books. Turning the show from The Witcher to The Witch was the dumbest thing they could have done. The books and games do not cover how Yennefer became a Sorceress because it's not important and was the worst part of season 1. I hate how Netflix completely screwed up this show and ruined the story because they wanted to follow a woman instead of who the damn Show is named after.

Netflix really dropped the ball on this one.
I never read the books or played the games but I really liked season 1, mostly cause of Henry Cavill. Season 2 was ok, but I didn't know they had changed so much from the books. I didn't even watch season 3 after hearing that Cavill was leaving.

Since the first season , that everyone were praising, i saw something wrong: gerald was never treated as a main character, he was parachuted on a scene, do something then...nothing(and cavill did a SUPERB job), he was like a secondary character! They didn't even dedicated some 5 minutes to explain the universe or him, while yenefer had a origin story, motivations and relations of a main character, so i quit and didn't care about the second season!

The writers, producer said that , because he wanted them to stick to the source material, or he would fight them on stupid decisions.
Like the writers decided to kill his horse, Henry fought hard against it and then for the death scene we saw , him and the horse, the writers thought it was stupid or just a horse, most of the audience that it was the best scene in the season . Hus character spent years with that horse, its worse thsn when you lose your dog .
The cast and crew and every other department adored him , every actor i have heard talking about working with him say he is a gentleman, he comes from a military family, and has that ingrained respect. ( this was said by a woman that played his mother in something)

The man go Geralt down to the nuances. Where the producers saw just a horse, Cavill knew, the fans see a horse with a name. Roach. And that Geralt outlived too many horses, and he always chose mares, and he always named them Roach, because that's how he dealt with the loss.

I haven’t seen The Witcher series from Netflix but if you’re main actor who is a big fan of the series aka Henry Cavill states he’s a fan of the franchise and knows how it plays out well then you should listen to him. That’s what I’m personally believe lead to him leaving the show which is a factor that I believe killed the series.

Funny thing there, and the reason why I respect him even more, he didn't know the books. Don't know how much veracity that interview holds, where either Hisrich or Cavill told that the showrunner told him it was not just the games, and she's gonna base the seasons on the book series, and Cavill was surprised the game he played so avidly was based on a book (guess that means he skipped the credits, or something), but he corrected his lack of information and jumped into the lore with enthusiasm, liked it a lot and was adamant to stick to the source material, because he became a fan.
