- Sea slugs including nudibranchs. Part 18 of my documentary, "Mucky Secrets", about the fascinating marine creatures of the Lembeh Strait in Indonesia. Watch the full 90-minute documentary at • Mucky Secrets (full) -...
A huge and fascinating diversity of sea slugs, or opisthobranchs (Opisthobranchia), are found in the Lembeh Strait. Opisthobranch means "gills behind", because their gills are located behind their heart.
Most sea slugs have all but lost their protective shell, but compensate with more advanced weapons of defence.
Over six thousand different species of sea slug are nudibranchs (Nudibranchia). The name means "naked gills", referring to the rosette of branchial plumes on their back, surrounding their anus. These gills vary greatly in form, but all have a large surface area for oxygen exchange.
There are English captions showing either the full narration or the common and scientific names of the marine life, along with the dive site names.
The full Mucky Secrets nature documentary features a huge diversity of weird and wonderful marine animals including frogfish, nudibranchs, scorpionfish, crabs, shrimps, moray eels, seahorses, octopus, cuttlefish etc..
Thanks to Jaycieh ( / jaycieh ) for the music track, "The Unknown" and to Kevin MacLeod of www.incompetech.com for the music track, "Brittle Rille", which is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported license.

The video was shot by Nick Hope with a Sony HVR-Z1P HDV camera in a Light & Motion Bluefin HD housing with Light & Motion Elite lights and a flat port. A Century +3.5 diopter was used for the most of the macro footage.

No words to describe how beautiful these creatures nor how your efforts in locating such small beings to give us this masterpiece must be appreciated
Fascinating that an animal with no eyes can evolve to LOOK like a different animal, or to have such vivid patterns and colors.
Thank you so much for this! I love nudibranchs but there’s so few books and videos about them, especially the less aesthetically appealing ones, that it’s harder to learn about them.
"Nudibranch Behavior" by David Behrens is worth a look, but it's quite old now.
I was deeply absorbed in this video until I heard the Kerbal Space Program music start up. I couldn't focus on the sea slugs after that; images of little green weirdos bobbing around in space kept popping up in my mind.
what have i done with my life to end up watching an 8 minute video on sea slugs at 2am
Blank u gotta admit sea slugs are da cutest bbs on da earth c:
Great video! Loved it, my children enjoyed it as well!
I was also fascinated by all the tiny animals swimming around these slugs
THE WONDERFUL,ARTWORKS ,CREATED BY NATURE...DEAVINE ,MARVELOUS ,MUSEUM OF THE INDERWATTER WORLD.
Excellent production!
Bubble vision is the best I watch all there vidios over and over again love it from phillie
very interesting animals, animals that it is probably I won't see for the environment they live. thank you for sharing this images and information. greetings
they're so cute
Wonderful! Maravilloso! Nudis are overwhelmingly eye-catching, and this footage along with your narration really do make them look even more amazing. I am a marine biology student, and I would love to make something as good as your work one day! cheers!
Nick, it's outstanding as always!
amazing! absolutely stunning!
And what will I be doing on a Friday night? Watching a documentary on sea slugs lol! --Vanessa
😍 Thank you very much
Perfeição da natureza!!!

Simply Amazing variety🤩
- Fantastic video
Love this!!!
amazing, thank u so much for this video
The best variety of individual varieties I have seen at one time. Thank You. Beautiful and interesting.
beautiful
such weird creatures, thanks for the documentary.
От этих улиточек -слизнячков получила эстетическое наслаждение! Редкий дизайнер способен на такое! ! !
Maravilhoso video da vida nos Oceanos, obrigada
I literally love this video so much
These creatures prove we don't know anything about life.
This is a GREAT documentary!!! I like all the parts, my favorite is the part with the octopuses and cuttle fish. You did a great job it seems like a Nat Geo documentary or something really high-cost. beautiful close-ups gorgeous videograpy in general. Love the music. Don't let any negative trolls like Mr. Victor Diaconecscu bother u, they are just trying to get you to react.
The full 90-minute documentary is now online: Mucky Secrets (full) - The Marine Creatures of the Lembeh Strait
Exquisite!
Brilliant!
superbe !! d emagnifiques couleurs !!
Every one says that slugs are ugly but in my opinion I think there beatiful👁👁👁👁
so cool
So Beautiful
New ideas of a higher plane
Nudibranchs do have eyes, just incredibly small and primitive ones that tell darkness from light
Thank you. I changed the script for the full length version ( czcams.com/video/nJMZ6reOB0E/video.html ). "Nudibranchs' primitive eyes can do little but detect light and shade, but the rhinophores on their head are sensitive to smell and taste, as well as touch, helping them navigate, find food, and locate mates." I did have an annotation on this video but YT withdrew the annotations feature.

Please post more content 💚🙏
So beautiful
The narration, the names of the dive sites, and the common and scientific names of the marine life are available in subtitles by clicking the button under the bottom right of the video.
These slugs sound like something I'd come up with myself. I'll just bolt this here and here, oh and it's solar powered. Oh shit, I don't have enough evolution points for those legs. Fuck it. Good enough.
Ich mag Maudados Videos.
Part 19 is now live: Mucky Secrets - Part 19 - Sea Slugs Feeding & Mating - Lembeh Strait
Fico imaginando os filhotinhos deles. 🥰
3:35 hang on, is that KSP VAB music?
+waterlubber Hehe, yes, it's "Brittle Rille" by Kevin MacLeod, king of royalty free music. Looks like I've used a few of his tracks that also appear in KSP.
Bubble Vision Yep. I love MacLeod's music. It's funny where you see it, and recognize it!
Part of this documentary is incorrect. The Blue Dragon sea slug is Glaucus Atlanticus, not Pteraeolidia semperi.
However the footage is beautiful and most of the information is factual. Wonderful video
Thank you. Pteraeolidia semperi is most commonly known as "blue dragon". There are no rules for common names, so duplication is widespread.
Bubble Vision
Thank you for the correction! I had never heard it referred to as such before and it confused me. I apologize for jumping to conclusion and calling you incorrect. I really enjoy your murky secrets series.
How much are they?
ohmygoodnesstheyareadorable
God must have really enjoyed making those.
4:00 какая милая рыбка!! :)
What is that thing wiggling in the dirt at 6:57 off to the right of the screen?
It's a polychaete worm, family Phyllodocidae, possibly in the genus Phyllodoce.
@@bubblevision it will be the cause of my nightmare tonight great!
@@pascal590 check out the bobbit worm if you want nightmares
so beutiful
Now I don’t know why but I really like small sea creatures but what is that thing on the left that is moving on 0:18 and the thing on the left again at 0:26?
My guesses would be a small snail and some sort of hydroid.
Goomy!
6:57 What is that creature on the right?
I think it's a polychaete worm in the family Phyllodocidae
0:00 -- 0:04
woah a shellos
❤️
who wouldve thought an animal who has their airway surrounding their asshole would be so beautiful.
I’m sorry at 6:56 what’s that creature to the right seemingly going thru a tunnel??
I think it's a polychaete worm in the family Phyllodocidae
Bubble Vision thank u so much
What is that slithery green thing at the right hand corner at 7:00?!
I think it's a polychaete worm in the family Phyllodocidae.
im doing this for a project on them i middle school
I need one for My aquarium when I go to my scuba diving process
It is very difficult to keep nudis in aquariums due to their need for a specific food and acid death
👍👍 🇧🇷
I'm pretty sure those are aliens 👽👽👽
Anyone notice the snake on the right at 6:58 ??
It's actually a polychaete worm from the Phyllodocidae family.
Part 18 of my documentary, "Mucky Secrets", about the fascinating marine life of the Lembeh Strait in Indonesia.
Now we explore nudibranchs, sea slugs that have lost their protective shell, but compensate with more advanced weapons of defence.

Is that Minecraft music in the background?
(Halfway through the video)
Shrimp friend!!
the game "Subnautica" might have cool creatures, but real nature is way cooler
i can confirm, that what those slugs are doing is rather effective, i don't feel tempted to try and eat one. bonus: weird worm at 6:57
Cuda FX sea cucumber
where?
I believe it’s a bristleworm. I had them in my saltwater aquarium. They’re invasive and have a nasty bite!
6:59 what is that like a snake or what!!!!!!!!!
I think the creature on the right is a polychaete worm in the family Phyllodocidae.
What is that worm at 6:57?
I'm not sure. I'll try and find out for you.
Tethered_Limbs I'm told it might be a film-strip ribbon worm, family Ikedidae. But I'm really not sure.
Bubble Vision Thanks for the reply.
سبحان الله ❤only allah can create that❤
so when they poop they can breath- on no poor things! XD
Algae are protists, not plants
Some types of green algae are classified as plants, but you're right, zooxanthellae are not, and that's an error. Thanks for the feedback.
Soubhane Allah
Sorry but nudibranchs DO HAVE EYES.
Not composed eyes, but we can see two small dots, sometimes by the rynophores, and these are capable of differentiating lights from shadows.
True. I changed the script for the full length version (czcams.com/video/nJMZ6reOB0E/video.html). "Nudibranchs' primitive eyes can do little but detect light and shade, but the rhinophores on their head are sensitive to smell and taste, as well as touch, helping them navigate, find food, and locate mates."
@@bubblevision that is much morre correct :) thanks.
This is supposed to be a sea slug? Nonsense; it's clearly Lord Blackwood on one of his adventures
SubhanAllah
Lol maudado
I DIDNT WANT TO KNOW THAT THE GILLS ARE THEIR ASS HAIR T_T
#maudado
Wer kommt von maudado?
Wer kommt auch von maudados tweet?
The truth may be that God CREATED these beautiful small sea creatures as is stated at
Genesis chapter 1, verses 20, 21 and 22
Allah
If only the narrator was not British-English speaking...
that shit look like some alien shit bruh
Did you know God made ALL creatures. Read the Bible and learn about Gods aminals
Thank you. I didn't know that. How did God do it?
So beautiful
