Your husband's pottery is just precious. How fortunate you are to have it. Thank you for taking us along to see Peter. The aerial view of you pulling out of your driveway was so artistic.
OMG, Mr. Much More Patient’s pot that his mother saved....All. The. Feels.!
Sorry to hear of Mr. More Patient's mom passing on... what a sweet story that she saved his little peice of art made with love with his own hands. Thank you for taking us on a field trip... I could watch him make pottery all day, and then the next day, too! Reminds me of when I took pottery in college. There's just something about handmade things. I had to rewind to see the doggie again... so cute/funny!
So sweet that you now get to cherish the pottery your husband made as a child. Love the Wakefield pottery!
Loved the sweetness of your reaction with your hubby's pot and how she cherished it. Then, the artistry of Wakefield. Gardens are art. Pottery is art. ❤️
When he pulled out that little tool, I audibly oohed and saved 😊. It is beautiful to see a true artist work.
Am I the only one who teared up at the beginning of this video? I just lost my step dad recently and we did the 'going through his stuff' thing. It was very comforting but so hard at the same time! So to see Erin talk so lovingly about a parent holding on to their children's homemade gifts only to have it come back around full circle really hit home!
Great video, as always!! Have a fantastic weekend y'all!
This video is wonderful. What an incredible trip to Peter’s studio, Erin. That intro was beyond touching. The entire thing makes my heart sing. Thank you for the lovely shout out. I’m truly touched. And I’m excited to order more pots now! Shocking! 😂 Thank you Peter for continuing styles and traditions that make your work so special and timeless. You make it look easy, I know it’s quite daunting. Thank you Erin for capturing this and keeping this type of special art alive. 💜
Love your channel Laura! Your gardens are inspirational. Can't wait to see the greenhouse! 💓🏵️
What a precious moment it must have been to receive a pot made by your hubby as a child that his mom has cherished. Thanks for sharing and the field trip!💐❤
This is just beautiful on so many levels. My grandmother was a potter for years, and I have one of her clay sculptures in the garden; it's a 'crone,'; she was a feminist/artist; they broke the mold when they made her. Before quarantine, I started taking a class, throwing my own pots, and hearing her voice in my head. I can't wait to get back to that. For now, I'm just hoping to eke out more time in the dirt before winter. Art and gardens go together like peanut butter and jelly. Thanks for your videos.
I got so choked up when you were sharing the story of Mr. MMP’s vase and how/why it came to you. It was a great segue into your pottery field trip and such an interesting and beautiful topic. Thank you so much for your post today. ❤️🌸🌺🏺
🍁When I lived in Wisconsin I loved going to Cambridge so much! Thanks for the memories. And isn’t it wonderful that your dear mother-in-law cherished her son’s tiny hands’ work on the little pot all those years. I, too, have a treasure my son made! Love and memories come in all different shapes and sizes, but they always fit perfectly inside our hearts. 🌻🧡
💜💜💜AWE💜💜💜nothing like a mother’s appreciation of their child’s creativity
I love it too and would have purchased it I pick items like this up always at yard sales all the time
Loved this “field trip”. Who doesn’t enjoy pottery.
It is so great to find artisans still pursuing their craft and making it available to those who appreciate hand made quality. I love timeless creations and it looks like Mr. More Patient could start his own side gig making pottery. :)
Thank you for taking us along to watch this talented man!😊❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
He is amazing. And the pot your husband made is gorgeous. The potter is so talented. I really enjoyed this video. You are Laura are definitely some of my favorite channels. Blessings. 👏🏻💕👏🏻
Great field Trip! Hey Mr. more patient should hone his inner child, and make ceramics. I’m with you I’d buy that.
I would buy it too! LOVE IT!
Yup, this is the guy who collaborated with Guy Wolff in the 90's (see About section on website). I had a prized 20+ year old pot from these 2 (bought at Seattle Smith&Hawken) which a repairman just broke in my garden this summer! I was so distraught and chewed the repairman's head off. Not so much because he broke it, but because he tossed it in the garbage. I use every shard of it still in the landscape.
Loved this video. I started collecting houseplants over a year ago and I soon discovered the second hobby is finding great and interesting pots to put the plants in. Choosing the perfect pot for a plant can make all the difference in the world to how it looks. I've always loved pottery.
Everything about this video was truly beautiful.💚 One of my otherwise less favourite nearby nurseries has an amazing pot collection. I was there Friday, and, like every trip, came home with a new pot.
How cool is that pot? Thanks for sharing it with us. Love the story!
Thank you so much for championing creatives and the creative process. As an artist (painter), my garden and the wider landscape are a constant source of inspiration. I loved your inquisitiveness with the process and the artist, drawing out the inspiration from the artist. Peter's work in making those stunning pots is just magical.
I love Wakefield pottery. I’ve always wanted to take a pottery class. He makes it look so easy but the one time I tried making a piece it was much much harder than I thought. Thanks for the field trip.
WOW - I loved watching the pottery being made. I’ve always wished for that talent. Instead I admire (and shop)!!
The editing on this video is so different than your usual. Love it and the content on beautiful pottery.
Great vlog, Erin! Loved seeing the local vistas. And it's cool you're supporting local artisans.
Erin I thank you for all of your knowledge I admire and appreciate everything you do,what a treat to watch your channel what a queen😘
I have several of the pots he did with Smith & Hawkins! I didn't realize it but when he used that special tool, I immediately thought of my pots that have the same detail. Beautiful ❤
Watching the pots form is so amazing. There is a peacefulness to this art form. It turns out, I have a few of his pots! I love them.
Wonderful tribute to artisans in whatever medium. Thanks.
This is different Erin. Logged in expecting to see a tour around the garden etc, instead a demonstration of pot making. Absolutely loved it. If I lived a few thousand miles closer I would be round to buy one. Thank you
Omg! This was such a delightful surprise! I’m a potter! ..and a gardener. Erin! It’s not even my birthday! Love love loved this posting! 🥣. Juli in Tucson, AZ 🌵🌵🌵
Beautiful and so relaxing to watch. I just loved the first pot he was making with the beading. Just the right amount of detail.
I really really enjoyed this video! Darling pot your husband made for his mom. Blessed Be!❤
I want to see a flower arrangement in that little blue pot!
Loved this video! His pots are truly art in the garden ❤
Nice little story
I made a pot in high school not nearly that nice but it really gave me an appreciation for those that can.
I have my kids pottery- such a meaningful post today. And, as a gardener, how could you not love pots !!! When Smith & Hawkens was in business, every time I stopped in, I picked up Guy Wolff pottery. Some are 20 years old. I will definitely check out Peter's site, beautiful work. Thank you for this today !! 😊
Peter worked closely with Guy Wolff to help produce those pots when Smith & Hawkens was selling them back in the day.
Now I have to check his site out !!! Thanks !!
Oh my, I love Peter. I have about 15+ of his pieces and his work is astounding. Such beautiful work people, so lasting as well.
When our kids were little, we used to make an annual summer trip to the Wisconsin Dells for them, and to Cambridge for pottery for me. (I have several Wisconsin Pottery pieces from those years.) I just got my very first pot from Wakefield this month - I was influenced by Laura at How's It Growing! Such fun to see this video! Thanks for sharing your field trip!
Wasn’t that fun! I picked up a piece of Wakefield as well recently after seeing Laura’s video about her pots. With winter coming I didn’t want to put a plant in it, so I put a silk arrangement in it. I can enjoy it all winter, then decide if I want to put it out in the garden. It’s the most beautiful golden color, and goes beautifully in my dining room. Thank you both so much for educating us about Wakefield pottery.
Oh thank you for the tour! Fascinating to see how pots come to life! And a brief glimpse of the Port W area 🥰 My twin sister lives downtown Port and I miss it when I’m away.
I took a pottery class in college for elective. It was the most fun I had . could not get very good but loved it came home covered in clay. This brought back lots of memories!
I adore pottery! Have been a collector for decades! Thanks, that was fun! Nice choice!
My local garden center carries Wakefield pottery...can’t wait to buy a pot now. Thanks for sharing!!!!
Just placed my order for a couple of pots. Thanks for sharing Wakefield!
This makes me so happy! I have several that my children made. And what a beautiful one that is and I love the color.
I *really* loved this video; thank you. His wonderful clay and glaze covered studio looked like such a peaceful haven, and he seemed like a calm presence himself. I don’t know how you walked out of there with just one pot! 😅
Oh, I placed an order too! :)
Enjoyed this field trip very much my great great grandparents came from Norway and settled in Cambridge their home is now a bed-and-breakfast I think it’s called the Victorian their names were Hans & Karen Olson. Another set of great great grandparents lived in Albion which is near Cambridge. Several descendants of these great great grandparents also lived in the area. On my last visit I visited the Rowe pottery store and purchase some items that I just love. I would like more pieces. On my next visit I will check out the Wakefield pottery. I see that they have stores next-door to each other maybe Wakefield wasn’t open the day we were visiting.
I have been watching your videos for a very long time but not one that comments very often. I’m from northern Minnesota upon the Canadian border and so appreciate all that you share with us. Thank you and have a blessed day.
This is a wonderful video, struck home for me. As a new gardener, tried my first vegetable garden this year thanks to you and Laura at Garden Answer for inspiring me. I am also a beginner potter throwing mainly mugs at the moment with flowers painted on them.
Thanks for the field trip.. pottery has always amazed me😊 They way a blob of clay can form into a beautiful piece of art..,, I have pottery pieces my son has made in grade school that are so sweet and special to me 😁
As a fellow Wisconsinite, I loved this video and I love Peter Wakefield's pottery. I ordered my first piece after seeing Peter's studio on the How's it Growing? channel and it obviously was made with heart and soul. I will order more pieces. They are truly beautiful in the garden and in the home. Thank you, Erin, for this peaceful and beautiful video!
💜💜
Thank you for the trip! I really love handmade pottery. It's a splurge to be sure. But having just one or two handmade pottery pieces is worth the splurge.
Love this! I adore pottery, and the process. So much goes into it. It really is a natural combo for garden art!
YAY! Fun, fun, fun! Great episode!
oh what a sweet intro ❤️. I loved watching this! Pottery, gardening and Houseplants are my things. I loved watching The Great Pottery Throwdown series here on youtube.
What a perfect video to drink my morning coffee with. I love his work and it's a great time to start thinking about Christmas presents!
I have one of his beautiful pots and I love it! Great to see him creating his beautiful pots❤
Made my first purchase. Thank you for showcasing the pottery on your channel. ❤️
Loved this video from start to finish! Definitely hope YOU will make a pot of your own this winter and bring us along for the ride!😁
I live about 10 minutes away from Cambridge, my SIL lived there for years. It’s such a sweet little town, so much to explore! Thanks for the field trip!
This was fun!..xoxo PaulaShanae
This was a great video and all gardeners I know love a beautiful pot!
This is so cool, Erin! I love pottery and so enjoyed this field trip! 😊😍
that is so cool,im a potter myself so my hart sings
Received my first piece the beginning of October, I'm in LOVE, also Love Cambridge. Dang you, I just ordered another pot. LOL
Loved this video. Peter’s prices aren’t too bad either.
I saw him on Laura’s channel also, fabulous! I want some pots! I Love artisans. Thank you for sharing.
Wow, great video! Beautiful art from Peter Wakefield.
The Victoria and Albert museum he mentioned that’s in London has an amazing pottery collection!!
Love that blue pot.! pot/paperweight LOL. You could make that Orchid pot using the coil method of hand building. This video makes me really wish I never sold all my pottery equipment, especially since I just retired yesterday. What I loved was making something out of a lump of clay that is useful, yep that and it just feels amazing in the hand. Thanks for sharing.
Such a treat to join you! I love garden pottery.
I have been to Cambridge, WI! Bought a lovely big bluish vase there, with cattails painted on it. Thanks for sharing your trip with us.
Love pottery. Loved the field trip. Thanks, please do more!
LOVED this video
All very Cool.
To have such a talent it was so beautiful! That was a great video it's nice to see something different!
Well, I just purchased the last Oldham half pot. I can see addiction in the future for these pots. Thanks for the discount, Erin.
That was so cool being able to watch the pots being made.
You are in my neck of the woods!
Thank you! This was so interesting and, really, quite beautiful. Gardening IS art. For me, it's an expression of emotion and thought to make something beautiful to enjoy, hence, art. Erin, you are an artist at home and at work. I wonder, are you familiar with Margaret at Away to Garden? I suspect you would enjoy her writing. Thanks for this video, loved it!
Margaret Roach is one of my gardening idols.
This place is like an hour and a half away from where i live! So going to book myself to a tour! Thank you for introducing ❤️
Yes, I've seen him on Laura's also at the time. Pottery is a lovely art. Peter is a nice calm man as he would be, working on his own and loving what he does.
I have a similar pot to the one you showed in the beginning However, the one I bought, is a bird house. Hangs from the base (sideways) with a wooden perch. Adorable!
Great field trip; beautiful pots!
Your begonia is beautiful!
Just joined your channel after seeing you on Garden Answer! Love this video. Watching him at the wheel is fascinating!! I tried it once-so difficult. Love his style of pottery.
I loved your trip. Meaning and art are a big part of great gardens. I just bought my daughter a series of pottery classes - she loves it!!!!
Warmest thoughts Jennie
You’re absolutely right. Art and gardening go hand in hand. I’m an art conservator and an art dealer. Most people think I must be an artist (nope). Where I create beauty is in my garden. Much more challenging using nature’s palette. It’s ever changing, ever growing...much more interesting than a static painting.
🚙✨✨Loved the✨field trip✨!
Aww the intro 😏 I love this so much. Thank you for sharing this side of gardening. Please more videos like this. I live around Chicagoish area I might have to make a trip out that way and grab a few handmade pots!
love Peters work, will be buying more!
Amazing. I've always admired his work
Absolutely beautiful.
I love his work! Someday I'll treat myself to a Wakefield original.
Thanks for sharing this. Love pottery and gardening
I want to learn this soooo bad. Just beautiful. 😍
This feels like grown up Mister Roger's Neighborhood, and I am here for it.
What an AMAZING video and such an inspiration for creativity. 😍😍😍
Very enjoyable field trip.
